An integrated approach for the assessment of the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus global spatial distribution, and determination of the zones susceptible to the development of Zika virus

The Zika virus, one of the new epidemic diseases, is reported to have affected millions of people in the past year. The suitable climate conditions of the areas where Zika virus has been reported, especially in areas with a high population density, are the main cause of the current outbreak and spread of the disease. Indeed, the suitable climatic conditions of certain territories constitute perfect breading nest for the propagation and outbreak of worldwide diseases. The main objective of this research is to analyze the global distribution and predicted areas of both mosquitoes Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus which are the main vectors of Zika virus. Physical (SRTM) and climatic variables (WorldClim) were used to obtain the susceptibility maps based on the optimum conditions for the development of these mosquitoes. The susceptibility model was developed using a Species Distribution Model - correlative model, namely the Maximum Entropy, that used as input the spatial references of both vectors (Dryad Digital Repository). The results show the most important classes of each independent variable used in assessing the presence of each species of mosquitoes and the areas susceptible to the presence of these vector species. It turns out that Ae. aegypti has greater global dispersion than the Ae. albopictus specie, although two common regions stand out as the most prone to the presence of both mosquito species (tropical and subtropical zones). The crossing of these areas of greater susceptibility with areas of greater population density (e.g. India, China, Se of USA and Brazil) shows some agreement, and these areas stand out due to the presence of several records of Zika virus (HealthMap Project). In this sense, through the intersection of susceptibility and human exposure the areas with increased risk of development and spread of Zika virus are pinpointed, suggesting that there may be a new outbreak of this virus in these places, if preventive measures are not adopted.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Epistemology of record and the organization of knowledge in the context of health: the case of the patient?s record

[Resumo] Apresentam-se os resultados de uma pesquisa cujo objeto de estudo é a epistemologia do registro do paciente, privilegiando os aspectos da organização do conhecimento registrado nesses documentos, com apoio nos elementos linguísticos. Partiu-se desta indagação: que aspectos da linguística textual podem contribuir para a construção de mapas conceituais de representação indexal de prontuários do paciente, visando a uma recuperação de informação com qualidade? O objetivo é mapear os sintagmas, a fim de elaborar um mapa conceitual referente às informações contidas nos prontuários. Identificaram-se cerca de 1000 sintagmas e construiu-se um mapa conceptual no software CmapTools, conforme os elementos da lingüística textual: coesão e coerência. No primeiro caso, foram mapeados os sintagmas concernentes à referência endofórica (anáfora, substituição, elisão conjunção, coesão lexical). Relativamente à coerência identificou-se o domínio lingüístico, pragmático e extralingüístico. Concluiu-se que a lingüística textual tem grande contribuição no tratamento informacional dos registros do paciente, pois oferece ?pistas? para a recuperação de informação com maior qualidade nos Serviços de Arquivos Médicos e Estatísticos (SAMEs).[Abstract] In this paper, we present the results of an investigation in which the object of study is the epistemology of treatment and the patient?s record, containing aspects of the organization of recorded knowledge in these documents, supporting us in the linguistic elements. We attempted to answer the following question: What aspects of linguistic text that can contribute to the index representation of a patient's records in order to recover quality information? The goal is to map the phrases in order to build a conceptual map for the information contained in the records. It was identified more than 1000 phrases and it was built a concept map in the software CmapTools, according to the elements of textual linguistics, cohesion and coherence. In the first case, we mapped the phrases pertaining to endophoric references (anaphora, substitution, elision, conjunction, lexical cohesion). In relation to coherence it was identified the linguistic, pragmatic, and extra-linguistic domain. We conclude that the textual linguistics has great contribution in the informational treatment of patient records, therefore, offers "tracks" for information retrieval with more quality in the Medical Records and Statistics Services

Assessment of soil loss by water in the Tarouca county (Portugal) and its influence in actual morphogenesis

A determinação de áreas suscetíveis à erosão hídrica é fundamental na tomada de decisões que envolvam atividades relacionadas com o uso do solo, nomeadamente atividades agrícolas. Sendo o Concelho de Tarouca (área de estudo) uma área com elevada dependência agrícola é fundamental a preservação do solo, evidenciandose aqui o reconhecimento das áreas mais suscetíveis à erosão hídrica. Neste sentido, estimou-se a perda de solo nesta área pela Equação Universal de Perda de Solo (EUPS) e avaliou-se o impacto destas perdas na morfogénese atual. Os resultados aqui obtidos permitiram aferir as áreas mais suscetíveis à erosão hídrica, destacando-se a infl uência de vários fatores, como o relevo, precipitação, o seu coberto e práticas desenvolvidas, na variação da distribuição da erosão hídrica.The determination of areas susceptible to erosion by water is fundamental to the process of decision making involving activities related to land use, in particular agricultural activities. Being the Tarouca County (study area) an area with high dependence on agriculture, the preservation of the soil becomes essential, in particular in areas more susceptible to erosion. Therefore, the soil loss in this area was estimated using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) and the impact of these losses on currently morphogenesis was also assessed. Neste sentido, buscou-se ainda explicar a integra ̧c ̃ao social que Itaipu exerce na sua regi ̃ao de influˆencia f ́ ısica, tendo Foz do Igua ̧cu e Ciudad del Este como refe- renciais. Para isso, utilizarmos diversos livros e trabalhos sobre integra ̧c ̃ao energ ́etica e tamb ́em sobre a soberania energ ́etica do Paraguai, al ́em da verifica ̧c ̃ao de quais s ̃ao os trabalhos sociais desenvolvidos na regi ̃ao de Foz do Igua ̧cu e Ciudad del Este, e tamb ́em an ́alise de jornais da constru ̧c ̃ao da Barragem aos dias de hoje. Transpassa por elas e procura, em seus desdobramentos, interligá-las. Possui em suas (entre)linhas outros dois temas que são indissociáveis da confecção de sua textura: a linguagem e a alteridade. Nele, procura-se estabelecer um diálogo constante entre os referidos conceitos centrais ao longo do texto, de maneira que esses se matizam, implícita ou explicitamente, na dissertação. A primeira parte versa sobre o tempo, busca investigar os conceitos de tempo em sua relação com as subjetividades, a linguagem e a violência, realiza-se uma reflexão de como esse interatua com o trabalho, a história e as narrativas, dentre as quais se privilegia o direito. Na segunda parte, examina-se o direito em sua prática de produção de documentos sobre as pessoas, como os arquivos e os testemunhos. Na sequência, analisa-se os paradoxos concernentes à cidadania e à (narração da) nação. Na terceira parte, a violência é o conceito problematizado, e a partir o texto "Zur Kritik der Gewalt" (Crítica da Violência), de Walter Benjamin, são explicitados os argumentos (anteriores) que inspiraram partes deste ensaio, como os de Georges Sorel, e também a interpretação (posterior) de Derrida. Versa-se, ainda, sobre a violência e o estado de exceção no debate entre Benjamin e Schmitt. Nas considerações finais é feita uma interpretação do conto o "Silêncio das Sereias", de Franz Kafka, que realiza uma remissão à linguagem e à alteridade, e por conclusão, um desenlace da narrativa.Abstract: This work is built upon the relationship between the categories of time, law and violence. Trespass them and seeks in its developments, to interconnect them. It issues (among) his lines another two themes that are inseparable from the confection of its texture: the language and the alterity. On it is searched to establish an ongoing dialogue between these key concepts throughout the text, in a way that they are tinting, either implicitly or explicitly in the dissertation. The first part relates about time, it seeks to investigate the concepts of time in their relationship with subjectivities, language and violence, it’s realized a reflection of how this interacts with the work, the history and the narratives, among which the law is privileged. In the second part the law is examined, in his practice to produce documents about the people, such as archives and witnesses. Sequentially it is analyzed the paradoxes concerning the citizenship and the (narration of the) nation. In the third part the violence is the concept problematized, from the Walter Benjamin's text "Zur Kritik der Gewalt" (Critique of Violence), the arguments that (previously) inspired parts of this essay are shown, like Georges Sorel’s, and the (further) Derrida’s interpretation. It’s related, yet, on violence and the state of exception in the debate between Benjamin and Schmitt. In the closing remarks it’s done an interpretation of the Franz Kafka’s tale the "Silence of the Sirens", which realizes a reference to language and alterity and, by conclusion, an outcome of the narrative
