Publisher Copyright: Copyright © 2021 Banerjee, Rabheru, Ivbijaro and Mendonca Lima. With a steady increase in population aging, the proportion of older people living with mental illness is on rise. This has a significant impact on their autonomy, rights, quality of life and functionality. The biomedical approach to mental healthcare has undergone a paradigm shift over the recent years to become more inclusive and rights-based. Dignity comprises of independence, social inclusion, justice, equality, respect and recognition of one's identity. It has both subjective and objective components and influences life-satisfaction, treatment response as well as compliance. The multi-dimensional framework of dignity forms the central anchor to person-centered mental healthcare for older adults. Mental health professionals are uniquely positioned to incorporate the strategies to promote dignity in their clinical care and research as well as advocate for related social/health policies based on a human rights approach. However, notwithstanding the growing body of research on the neurobiology of aging and old age mental health disorders, dignity-based mental healthcare is considered to be an abstract and hypothetical identity, often neglected in clinical practice. In this paper, we highlight the various components of dignity in older people, the impact of ageism and mental health interventions based on dignity, rights, respect, and equality (including dignity therapy). It hopes to serve as a framework for clinicians to incorporate dignity as a principle in mental health service delivery and research related to older people.publishersversionpublishe

TURISMO NO ESPAÇO RURAL: DEBATE E TENDÊNCIA

    Get PDF
Tourism in rural space is a tourism modality which has lately been the focus of investitors and students. However there has been little spread of studies focusing such modality, featuring the characteristics of te industry to which it belongs, showing up-to-date discussions and world trends. So, this study, concerned as it is with it, has gathered information on such points and shows that, worldwidely, tourism in rural space is an alternative modality that arose in counter-position to mass tourism, has been seen as a solution to poorer regions and, because of this, has been the aim of many investitors and students. The industry to which it belongs features characteristics like the complementarity of the segments that make it up and due to this it demands a different management style. By the problems raised, one believes that the essential question concerning tourism in rural space in the world is the lack of knowledge, both on behalf of the agents in dealing with the characteristics of the rural environment and the rural producers’ behalf in dealing with the characteristics of the tourism industry. The cluster, due to its characteristics, is the most adequate form to the characteristics of the tourism industry and especifically to tourism in rural space, which demands integration, coordination and cooperation. Once organized that way, tourism in rural space may come to smoothen problems said to be of regional under-development and de-valorization of small and medium rural enterprises that exist worldwide.tourism industry, tourism in rural space, rural sector, Community/Rural/Urban Development,

The primary Brazilian sector is of great importance for its economy and the rice farming of Rio Grande do Sul is inserted in this context, also, with a great relevance because it has a significant number of producers that have profits from this activity. However, there is a reduction of profitability in the sector due to the Imports Mercosulinas that press the internal prices, according to the Brazilian producers. Also, the growth of the internal production may cause the same effect. This paper aim to prove that the imported rice from Mercosur and the rice production from Rio Grande do Sul have influence on the internal price and that the relations between the variables take place in the curvilinear form and cannot be analyzed by linear methods. For this, it was used descriptive statistic, analysis of correlation and of models of linear, semi-logarithmic, quadratic and cubic regression. It was concluded that there are influences between the variables and that the relations are linear for production and prices and curvilinear for imports and prices.Mercosul, setor orizícola, preço, Mercosur, orizícula sector, price, Crop Production/Industries,

To investigate the associations of oral microbiota, leucocytes count, neutrophil count, platelet counts and hemoglobin level, and the severity of oral mucositis in pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) receiving chemotherapy. 71 prospective patients were included. Analyses of oral microbiota and blood sample were conducted on days 14 (D14) and 56 (D56) of the Brazilian GBTLI-99 treatment protocol. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) identification was performed by PCR followed by DNA sequencing analysis. Bacteria and fungi identification was obtained by standard microbiological culture tests. 103 episodes of mucositis occurred, being 65 at D14 and 38 at D56. Most cases positive for herpes viral DNA sequences were identified as HSV-1. At D14, we found a significant association between the severity of mucositis and presence of HSV-1 (p = 0.0347), Candida spp. (p = 0.0078), and low platelet count (p = 0.0064). At D56, we found a significant association between the severity of mucositis and the presence of HSV-1 (p = 0.0317), previous HSV-1 presence on D14 (p < 0.0001) and neutrophil count (p = 0.0211). Clinical relevance: the identification of risk factors for mucositis in children and adolescents may contribute to the development of new strategies for prevention and/or treatment, reducing the complications associated with this condition. The presence of HSV, platelet count, and Candida spp. presence at D14 of ALL induction treatment is associated with increased severity of mucositis in children and adolescents. At D56 of ALL treatment, mucositis severity was associated with neutrophil count, HSV presence, and previous presence of HSV (at D14).325322330FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO - FAPES

Cordycepin activates autophagy through AMPK phosphorylation to reduce abnormalities in Machado-Joseph disease models

    Get PDF
Machado-Joseph disease (MJD) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by an abnormal expansion of citosine-adenine-guanine trinucleotide repeats in the disease-causing gene. This mutation leads to an abnormal polyglutamine tract in the protein ataxin-3 (Atx3), resulting in formation of mutant Atx3 aggregates. Despite several attempts to develop a therapeutic option for MJD, currently there are no available therapies capable of delaying or stopping disease progression. Recently, our group reported that reducing the expression levels of mutant Atx3 lead to a mitigation of several MJD-related behavior and neuropathological abnormalities. Aiming a more rapid translation to the human clinics, in this study we investigate a pharmacological inhibitor of translation-cordycepin-in several preclinical models. We found that cordycepin treatment significantly reduced (i) the levels of mutant Atx3, (ii) the neuropathological abnormalities in a lentiviral mouse model, (iii) the motor and neuropathological deficits in a transgenic mouse model and (iv) the number of ubiquitin aggregates in a human neural model. We hypothesize that the effect of cordycepin is mediated by the increase of phosphorylated adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) levels, which is accompanied by a reduction in the global translation levels and by a significant activation of the autophagy pathway. Overall, this study suggests that cordycepin might constitute an effective and safe therapeutic approach for MJD, and probably for the other polyglutamine diseases.European Union through the European social fund, funds Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional through the Competitive Factors Operational Program-COMPETE, POPH and QRENFrench Muscular Dystrophy Association (AFM-Telethon) [18776]Ataxia UKFundacao para a Ciencia e TecnologiaPortuguese Foundation for Science and Technology [SFRH/BD/133192/2017]FCT - Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia, I.P.
