Unstable Giants

We find giant graviton solutions in Frolov's three parameter generalization of the Lunin-Maldacena background. The background we study has $\tilde{\gamma}_1=0$ and $\tilde{\gamma}_2=\tilde{\gamma}_3=\tilde{\gamma}$. This class of backgrounds provide a non-superymmetric example of the gauge theory/gravity correspondence that can be tested quantitatively, as recently shown by Frolov, Roiban and Tseytlin. The giant graviton solutions we find have a greater energy than the point gravitons, making them unstable states. Anticonvulsant activity of bone marrow cells in electroconvulsive seizures in mice

Background: Bone marrow is an accessible source of progenitor cells, which have been investigated as treatment for neurological diseases in a number of clinical trials. Here we evaluated the potential benefit of bone marrow cells in protecting against convulsive seizures induced by maximum electroconvulsive shock (MES), a widely used model for screening of anti-epileptic drugs. Behavioral and inflammatory responses were measured after MES induction in order to verify the effects promoted by transplantation of bone marrow cells. To assess the anticonvulsant effects of bone marrow cell transplantation, we measured the frequency and duration of tonic seizure, the mortality rate, the microglial expression and the blood levels of cytokine IL-1, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-alpha after MES induction. We hypothesized that these behavioral and inflammatory responses to a strong stimulus such as a convulsive seizure could be modified by the transplantation of bone marrow cells.Results: Bone marrow transplanted cells altered the convulsive threshold and showed anticonvulsant effect by protecting from tonic seizures. Bone marrow cells modified the microglial expression in the analyzed brain areas, increased the IL-10 and attenuate IL-6 levels.Conclusions: Bone marrow cells exert protective effects by blocking the course of electroconvulsive seizures. Additionally, electroconvulsive seizures induced acute inflammatory responses by altering the pattern of microglia expression, as well as in IL-6 and IL-10 levels. Our findings also indicated that the anticonvulsant effects of these cells can be tested with the MES model following the same paradigm used for drug testing in pharmacological screening. ASSISTÊNCIA DE ENFERMAGEM PRESTADA PELO ENFERMEIRO DA ATENÇÃO PRIMÁRIA À SAÚDE AO PACIENTE DIABÉTICO

A Diabetes Mellitus é uma doença crônica que, na fase aguda, causa sérios danos ao paciente e gastos para o sistema público de saúde. Atualmente, tem crescido o número de pessoas convivendo com a doença. Objetivo: descrever a experiência do profissional enfermeiro da atenção primária à saúde ao prestar cuidados de enfermagem a pacientes diabéticos. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, com abordagem qualitativa de análise temática ou categorial de Minayo. Resultados: após análise e interpretação dos dados, emergiram as seguintes categorias: 1) Educação em saúde; 2) Dificuldades vivenciadas; 3) Condições necessárias para uma boa assistência ao paciente diabético; e 4) Percepção sobre a importância da assistência de enfermagem prestada. Conclusão:  geralmente, pacientes idosos têm maior resistência às orientações e à adesão aos tratamentos propostos. A ausência de grupos específicos para trabalhar com essa população, bem como a falta de equipe multiprofissional também são fatores que influenciam de maneira negativa a continuidade do tratamento. Diante dessa realidade, o enfermeiro tem atuado acolhendo os pacientes, orientando-os por meio da educação em saúde e visitas domiciliares a fim de evitar agravos oriundos pela agudização da Diabetes Mellitus

Deformed PP-waves from the Lunin-Maldacena Background

In this article we study a pp-wave limit of the Lunin-Maldacena background. We show that the relevant string theory background is a homogeneous pp-wave. We obtain the string spectrum. The dual field theory is a deformation of N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. We have shown that, for a class of operators, at O(g_{YM}^2) and at leading order in N, all contributions to the anomalous dimension come from F-terms. We are able to identify the operator in the deformed super Yang-Mills which is dual to the lowest string mode. By studying the undeformed theory we are able to provide some evidence, directly in the field theory, that a small set of nearly protected operators decouple. We make some comments on operators in the Yang-Mills theory that are dual to excited string modes.Comment: 22 pages, 1 figure; Final version to appear in JHE

POLITICAS PÚBLICAS PARA DOENÇAS TRANSMITIDAS POR VETORES: situação atual e Educação como alternativa

O artigo apresenta a ampla produção cientí2 ca em doenças transmitidas por vetores nos últimos cinco anos, disponíveis em bibliotecas virtuais; retrata o perfil dos grupos de pesquisa do Brasil neste tema, destacando a Fiocruz como instituição estratégica do Estado. As ações recomendadas para promoção e prevenção destas doenças estão alicerçadas na visão integrativa do conceito One Health, que coaduna ações de vigilância ambiental e entomológica, controle biológico e educação. Além disso, apresenta uma proposta de um curso de qualificação profissional para a área da saúde, baseado nos pressupostos teóricos e metodológicos da educação ambiental crítica que permitirá a melhoria do desempenho das atividades exercidas pelos pro2 ssionais da área da saúde, focando suas ações no cuidado com o ambiente e na promoção da saúde.Palavras-chave: doenças transmitidas por vetores, saúde pública, ambiente

Agentes populares no contexto da pandemia de Covid-19: educação popular em saúde na construção de territórios saudáveis e sustentáveis

Este estudo analisou as experiências desenvolvidas pelos Agentes Populares de Saúde (AgPS) na Campanha Mãos Solidárias, entre os anos 2020 e 2022, suas aproximações com a Política Nacional de Educação Popular em Saúde e com o conceito de Territórios Saudáveis e Sustentáveis. Trata-se de uma pesquisa documental, qualitativa e analítica, cujas fontes de dados foram coletadas nas mídias sociais da campanha, jornais e produções acadêmicas do tema. Os AgPS fomentaram o protagonismo popular nos territórios por meio de estratégias de mobilização pelo direito a saúde, educação em saúde, comunicação popular e cuidado em saúde. Identificaram e fortaleceram os saberes populares do território pela articulação intersetorial entre Saúde, Alimentação, Trabalho e Renda, Direitos, Comunicação e Educação. Este trabalho identificou a dificuldade de articulação das ações com o Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) e também a necessidade de fortalecimento de políticas públicas relacionadas ao tema

Transactional sex work and HIV among women in conflict-affected Northeastern Uganda: a population-based study

Background Armed conflict and the HIV pandemic are significant global health issues. Evidence of the association between armed conflict and HIV infection has been conflicting. Our objective was to examine the role of mediating risk factors, such as engagement in transactional sex work, to elucidate the relation between armed conflict and HIV infection. Methods We used multistage sampling across three Northeastern Ugandan districts to randomly select 605 women aged 13 to 49 to answer cross-sectional surveys from January to May of 2016. We used multivariate logistic regression model with R 4.0.3 to examine if exposure to armed conflict has an indirect effect on reporting having an HIV-positive serostatus through engagement in transactional sex work. Age and district residence were included as covariates. Results Exposure to armed conflict β = .16, SE = .04, p < .05, OR = 1.17, 95% [CI .08, .23] was significantly associated with reporting a HIV-positive serostatus. For each 1-unit increase in exposure to armed conflict (i.e., additional type of armed conflict exposure), there was a 17% increase in the odds of reporting a HIV-positive serostatus. Engagement in transactional sex work was not associated with reporting a HIV-positive serostatus β = .04, SE = .05, p = .37, 95% [CI − .051, .138]. We found district of residence, age, and interaction effects. Conclusions Although exposure to armed was associated with reporting an HIV-positive serostatus, this relationship was not mediated by engagement in transactional sex. Further research is needed on risk factors that mediate this relationship. The likelihood of reporting a HIV-positive serostatus increased with each additional type of exposure to armed conflict. Thus, screening for exposure to multiple traumatic stressors should occur in HIV prevention settings. Healthcare services that are trauma-informed and consider mental distress would likely improve HIV outcomes
