Stratonikeia is one of the oldest settlements in southwestern Anatolia and at the same time significant for an understanding of the Hellenistic period. Archaeological records of Stratonikeia date back to around 2000 BC. This study provides new information not only about luminescence age but also about mineralo-petrographic, geochemical characteristics of bricks taken from Erikli Basilica in Stratonikeia (Turkey). In this study, mineralogical data of TL and OSL dating of two bricks and two sediment samples will be presented. The bricks have highly similar mineralogical composition, consisting mainly of quartz and muscovite. These results are supported by XRD studies. In order to perform the thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating, the equivalent dose (ED) and the annual dose (AD) of the samples were determined using different estimation techniques. The TL ages of bricks are determined to be 1189±89 and 576±40 years. The IRSL ages of the bricks are determined to be 1167±85 years and 545±50 years. Additionally, supporting the TL and IRSL ages, the OSL quartz ages of the two sediments obtained from the top of the layer under the floor are discovered to be about 1100 years. Mineralo-petrographic, geochemical, dating and archaeological studies have revealed that the age of bricks is different from each other. Furthermore, Erikli Basillica was built in bricks, consisting of raw materials taken from different quarries in different periods. Within the framework, the first report of the experimental approach has been published from Stratonikeia archaeological site located in Muğla, Agean Anatolia. © 2018 MAA Open Access. Structural, optical and electronic properties and elastic constants of Cd1-x-yZnx HgyTe alloys have been studied by employing the commercial code Castep based on density functional theory. The generalized gradient approximation and local density approximation were utilized as exchange correlation. Using elastic constants for compounds, bulk modulus, band gap, Fermi energy and Kramers–Kronig relations, dielectric constants and the refractive index have been found through calculations. Apart from these, X-ray measurements revealed elastic constants and Vegard’s law. It is seen that results obtained from theory and experiments are all in agreement.Structural, optical and electronic properties and elastic constants of Cd1-x-yZnx HgyTe alloys have been studied by employing the commercial code Castep based on density functional theory. Unorthodox Forms of Capital in Organizations: Positive Psychological Capital, Intellectual Capital and Social Capital

    Get PDF
AbstractThe physical or financial values were regarded as capital value in the past, but nowadays alternative assets are also taken into consideration as capital. In this respect, intellectual assets are accepted as the primary source of competitive advantage (Boulton et al., 2000; Lev, 2001; Low, 2000). This study aims to investigate the effect of positive psychological capital on intellectual and social capital and the interrelationship among these three concepts. Beside this, the effect of social capital on intellectual capital is also investigated. In this context, the research was applied to managers and employees who work in various sectors and datas are gathered by a questionnaire form and the structural equation model was used to analyze them. At the end of study the interrelationships among these concepts and their effects to each are expected to provide a useful contribution to academicians, professionals and business life

Syphilis is an infectious disease caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum. Syphilis is divided into clinical stages including primary, secondary, latent and tertiary syphilis. Secondary syphilis can present with various mucocutaneous lesions and multisystem involvement. Since it can mimic many other diseases, syphilis is known as ‘the great imitator’. However, secondary syphilis with nodular lesions is very rare. Moreover, nodular secondary syphilis can be misdiagnosed as syphilitic nodules of the tertiary stage. Hereby, we report an unusual presentation of secondary syphilis characterized by extensive erythematous nodules and generalised lymphadenopathy in an immunocompetent 39-year-old Caucasian male patient

Microstructural Characterization and Mechanical Properties of Volcanic Tuff (Malatya, Turkey) Used as Building Stone for the Restoring Cultural Heritage

Old stone buildings constitute a significant percentage of the residential buildings in many countries. These structures are highly vulnerable, and important losses in masonry structures occur even in moderate earthquakes. Therefore, safety evaluations of these structures have gained significant attention in recent years. In this study, the mechanical, physical and microstructural characteristics of tuff samples used in the old buildings were investigated in Battalgazi within the boundaries of Malatya Province during the Seljuk time. The characteristics of the building materials were examined in detail using in-situ and laboratory tests. Because adequate samples could not be obtained from the historical buildings, quarry areas with the same characteristics were identified. First, original building stone (OBS) used in construction was taken from fallen and unusable blocks. Then, the properties of the restoration building stones (RBS) brought from the quarries were investigated. The RBS samples were also examined using in the laboratory, and the mechanical and microstructural properties of the building components were determined. The dynamic and static moduli of elasticity were determined using ultrasonic pulse velocity and uniaxial compression test. The OBS and RBS samples yielded similar results after the microstructural analyses. Our results showed that the dynamic elastic modulus value was higher than the static elastic modulus value. The results revealed by both methods showed that the static and dynamic elastic moduli were closely linked. The OBS and RBS samples exhibited microlitic porphyritic and vesicular textures and nearly the same mineralogical and textural characteristics

Objective: To evaluate the effect of chlorhexidine-thymol varnish alone, its combination with chlorhexidine-fluo - ride containing dentifrice and fluoride varnish on oral hygiene and caries prevention in orthodontic patients. Study design: Sixty patients, aged 12-18, with orthodontic fixed appliances were randomly assigned into three groups as follows: Group 1 (n=20): 1% chlorhexidine and 1% thymol varnish (Cervitec ® Plus); Group 2 (n=20): Cervitec ® Plus+ 0.2% chlorhexidine and 0.2% sodium fluoride (900 ppm fluoride) (Cervitec ® Gel)); and Group 3 (n=20): 0.1% fluoride varnish (Fluor Protector ® ). Mutans streptococci (MS), lactobacilli (LB) levels, buffering capacity (BC), visible plaque index (VPI), and gingival bleeding index (GBI) scores were evaluated at four stages: T 0 , before orthodontic bonding; T 1 , one week after orthodontic bonding; T 2 , one week; and T 3 , four weeks after the first application, respectively. Inter and intra group comparisons were made by the Kruskal-Wallis, Mann- Whitney U, Friedman and Wilcoxon Signed-Rank tests with Bonferroni step-down correction ( P< 0.017). Results: Significantly lower MS and LB levels were found in Group 2 than Group 1 (T 2 ) and 3 (T 2 , T 3 ) ( P< 0.017). Groups 1-2 (T 2 ) showed significantly higher BC ( P< 0.017) and lower VPI and GBI ( P< 0.017) scores compared with Group 3. Decreased MS levels at T 2 ( P< 0.017) and T 3 ( P> 0.017) were found in Group1-2 compared with T 0 . Significantly lower LB levels were recorded in Group 2 at T 2 compared with T0 ( P< 0.017) while no significant differences were seen in Group 1 and 3 ( P> 0.017). Conclusions: Addition of Cervitec ® Plus+Cervitec ® Gel combination to the standard oral hygiene regimen may be beneficial for orthodontic patients for maintaining oral health by reducing bacterial colonisation and gingivitis

Remote Cerebellar Haemorrhage Occurring after Transcranial Pituitary Surgery

    Get PDF
Post supratentorial and spinal surgeries, in rare cases, Remote Cerebellar Haemorrhage (RCH) develops as a complication. Although the exact aetiology of RCH remains uncertain, excessive drainage of the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) is accepted as the most possible cause. It has been suggested that overdrainage of CSF leads to stretching and resultantly tearing of the cerebellar veins. Early diagnosis and appropriate management decrease mortality and morbidity significantly. In this report, we present a case of RCH encountered on the third postoperative day of transcranial pituitary surgery and discuss the possible causative factors. Excessive loss of CSF is considered to be the major cause of RCH. To our knowledge this is the first case of RCH seen after transcranial macroadenoma surgery reported in the literature so far

ALAKAS, Haci Mehmet/0000-0002-9874-7588WOS:000599463700004Enterprises have started to establish partnerships both to use their internal resources efficiently and to increase their environmental performance. Partnerships and interoperability of enterprises with different processes enable them to benefit more from their benefits. Moving towards the local and regional economy, these partnerships that increase environmental and own resources have created industrial symbiosis practices. Industrial ecology fields are established in these applications. Both environmental and economic gains can be achieved through the efficient use of resources by enterprises and the minimization of wastes. For the sustainability of these partnerships to be established by enterprises, they need to analyze the measures they take internally. In this study, the concept of industrial symbiosis and the criteria that are effective for the sustainability of these industrial symbiosis are evaluated. Analytical network process method is used. Thus, the industrial symbiosis infrastructures to be established by enterprises have been enabled to move strategically
