Background: Radial artery spasm (RAS) is one of the most common complications of radial coronary angiography. Several demographic and clinical factors increase the risk of RAS in this procedure. We aimed to evaluate the effect of various risk factors on the incidence and severity of RAS in radial coronary angiography.  Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 120 patients who were randomly selected from candidates referred to Shahid Modarres Educational Medical Center for coronary angiography by the radial method. After angiography, radial arteriography was performed to diagnose spasms. The association of some demographic and clinical factors with the incidence and severity of RAS was evaluated. Results: 35 of the 120 patients (29.16%) developed RAS during angiography. Shorter height, shorter radius bone length, less radial artery diameter, longer procedure length, diabetes mellitus, more catheters used, and female sex were significantly associated with higher incidence. The predictive power of these factors for the occurrence of spasms was very good with AUC=0.88. Age, shorter height, higher body mass index, smaller radial artery diameter, longer procedure time, diabetes mellitus, failure of initial effort for puncture, number of catheters used, and female sex were significantly associated with the severity of spasms. Conclusions: The incidence or severity of spasms during the procedure can be reduced by examining the available risk factors for every patient before deciding to perform angiography

    Get PDF
In this paper a fast flux search controller based on the Neuro-fuzzy systems is proposed to achieve the best efficiency of a direct torque controlled induction motor at light load. In this method the reference flux value is determined through a minimization algorithm with stator current as objective function. This paper discusses and demonstrates the application of Neurofuzzy filtering to stator current estimation. Simulation and experimental results are presented to show the fast response of proposed controller

Application of Artificial Neural Networks for Seismic Analysis and Design of Buried Pipelines in Heterogeneous Soils

Every year, the phenomenon of earthquake causes a lot of human, financial and environmental losses. Transmission pipelines are one of the vital arteries that are very important, however, in the event of an earthquake can cause devastating damages. Safeguarding urban and interurban facilities, including electricity, water supply, oil and gas transmission lines, against these loads requires careful studies and engineering designs. Given that traditional methods for seismic design of pipelines such as FEM modeling and experimental methods are so expensive, a new combined method for predicting the strain of pipes based on the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is proposed. For this purpose, the parameters of the pipeline including pipe and soil type, length, discharge, path slope, depth, etc. and earthquake-induced characteristics including earthquake acceleration, earthquake occurrence time, Peak ground acceleration (PGA), etc. were included in the model. Earthquake input parameters were considered as input parameters and pipe strains and stresses were considered as output parameter. ANSYS finite element software has also been used to simulate the pipeline and produce training data. The results of finite element software were used as input and output parameters for training and validating artificial neural network. 753 models created using ANSYS and its input/output data divided into three parts to creat ANN model. 70% of the total data were used for training, 15% for validating and 15% for testing the ANN model. Results show that the proposed Method provides a very good agreement with the computational results of the ANSYS with accuracy of 96 percent

Expression of a Novel Chimeric Truncated t-PA in CHO Cells Based on in Silico Experiments

Tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) is one of the fibrin-specific serine proteases that play a crucial role in the fibrinolytic system. The rapid clearance of the drug from the circulation, caused by its active uptake in the liver, has lead to complicated clinical applications. Different forms of plasminogen activators have been developed to treat thrombotic disease. Deletion of the first three domains of t-PA by gene manipulation techniques has shown a significant increase in its plasma half life. In order to compensate the disadvantage of higher bleeding risk, a novel chimeric truncated form of t-PA with 394 amino acids and more fibrin affinity compared to the truncated form was designed to be expressed in Chinese Hamster Ovarian (CHO) cells. The recombinant chimeric plasminogen activator consists of kringle 2 and serine protease (K2S) domains of t-PA, namely GHRP-SYQ-K2S. The level of expression was found to be 752 IU/ml with 566,917 IU/mg specific activity, based on amidolytic activity. The fibrin binding of this novel chimeric truncated t-PA was 86% of the full length t-PA at a fibrinogen concentration of 0.2 mg/ml. This could be a promising approach with more desirable pharmacodynamic properties compared to existing commercial forms

First volumetric records of airborne Cladosporium and Alternaria spores in the atmosphere of Al Khor (northern Qatar): a preliminary survey

Daily monitoring of airborne fungal spores was carried out for the first time in Al Khor city, Qatar, using a Hirst type 7-day recording volumetric spore trap, from May 2017 to May 2019. During the sampling period, the annual and monthly fluctuations, as well as intradiurnal variations of airborne fungal spore concentrations, were evaluated. Cladosporium, followed by Alternaria, were the spore types most abundant in the atmosphere of the city, with a strong interannual variability in the atmospheric concentrations being observed. The Annual Spore Integrals (ASIns) were 3334 and 1172 spore * day/m3 (2017–2018), and 6796 and 1538 spore * day/m3 (2018–2019) for Cladosporium and Alternaria, respectively. Total daily spore concentrations showed significantly positive correlations with mean, minimum, and maximum temperatures but significantly negative correlations with relative humidity. However, due to the scarce rainfalls’ days, we did not find a statistically significant correlations between Cladosporium and Alternaria spore concentrations and this parameter. Despite this, the spore peaks were strongly related to precipitations that occurred during the previous month. In general, no significant correlations were found with wind speed but, regarding wind direction, the higher percentage of spores were collected when wind blows from the 4th quadrant (NW). According to the intradiurnal pattern, Cladosporium fungal spores displayed their maximum daily concentration during 8:00–10:00 h in the morning, with a second peak in the afternoon, while for Alternaria, the maximum peaks were observed between 08:00 and 14:00 h. Because no consistent previous aerobiological studies exist from Qatar, the aim of this study is to define the seasonality and intradiurnal behaviour of these two airborne fungal spore and the role that, in such arid scene, the meteorological parameters play on the spore concentrations.Open Access funding provided thanks to the CRUE-CSIC agreement with Springer Nature. Impaired IL-23-dependent induction of IFN-gamma underlies mycobacterial disease in patients with inherited TYK2 deficiency

    Get PDF
Human cells homozygous for rare loss-of-expression (LOE) TYK2 alleles have impaired, but not abolished, cellular responses to IFN-alpha/beta (underlying viral diseases in the patients) and to IL-12 and IL-23 (underlying mycobacterial diseases). Cells homozygous for the common P1104A TYK2 allele have selectively impaired responses to IL-23 (underlying isolated mycobacterial disease). We report three new forms of TYK2 deficiency in six patients from five families homozygous for rare TYK2 alleles (R864C, G996R, G634E, or G1010D) or compound heterozygous for P1104A and a rare allele (A928V). All these missense alleles encode detectable proteins. The R864C and G1010D alleles are hypomorphic and loss-of-function (LOF), respectively, across signaling pathways. By contrast, hypomorphic G996R, G634E, and A928V mutations selectively impair responses to IL-23, like P1104A. Impairment of the IL-23-dependent induction of IFN-gamma is the only mechanism of mycobacterial disease common to patients with complete TYK2 deficiency with or without TYK2 expression, partial TYK2 deficiency across signaling pathways, or rare or common partial TYK2 deficiency specific for IL-23 signaling.ANRS Nord-Sud ; CIBSS ; CODI ; Comité para el Desarrollo de la Investigación ; Fulbright Future Scholarshi
