Keeping Your Social (Media) Distance: Library Engagement in the Time of COVID

    Get PDF
During COVID-19, University of North Florida’s Thomas G. Carpenter Library quickly expanded its social media content in order to better reach students, faculty, and staff, all of whom suddenly found themselves working and learning remotely. The Carpenter Library’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts (@unflibrary) quickly became the face of the library, whereas in the past they had merely supported outreach, promotion, and advocacy. By transitioning in-person programs to virtual formats, focusing on supportive and uplifting campaigns, and harnessing interactive modes of communication like Instagram Stories and video, outreach staff increased and maintained the library’s online following while also creating a culture of positivity and togetherness. Attendees will hear specific examples about what worked and what didn’t, with perspective given from both an experienced outreach librarian and a new library staff member. Presenters will detail fun and innovative ways to incorporate best practices for social media engagement, social listening, and online programming. Attendees will also learn how to use social media to demonstrate the value of their own library’s changing services and resources while still supporting their community. Links to planning documents will be provided during the presentation, which attendees will be encouraged to use and re-purpose for their own libraries

Keep Calm and Pivot: Resetting Library Engagement with Remote Outreach

This presentation will describe how one academic library reset their engagement priorities and reconnected with their audience with the use of remote outreach programs. Over the course of one academic year, library staff created, hosted, and assessed more than a dozen asynchronous remote outreach programs for students and faculty, including many who never stepped foot on campus. Attendees will learn how to coordinate efforts within their organization and think outside the box for ways to promote their collections and resources for an online audience

The Patient Perspective: Receiving Care in the Post-ACA Era

The purpose of this study was to explore patients’ experiences and perceptions regarding the accessibility of healthcare services within a low-income, culturally diverse community in the post-Affordable Care Act era. We conducted a cross-sectional qualitative analysis of 32 interviews with patients that presented to a community emergency department in South L.A with one or more adult ambulatory care sensitive conditions. Both insured and uninsured patients shared many of the same experiences and perceptions when accessing healthcare services. The most prominent commonalities were related to healthcare cost, difficulty qualifying for insurance, lack of awareness of existing services, and healthcare service availability. Increased insurance coverage had a positive impact on patients’ perceived ability to access outpatient primary and specialty healthcare services. However, patients still cited significant barriers to healthcare access, including lack of awareness of covered services and limited service availability

Introduction: Enterococcus spp is currently considered as one of the most important nosocomial pathogens. The antibiotic resistance of this group of bacteria is a particularly important problem in health centers. Objective: To characterize the antibiotic resistance of 50 Enterococcus spp strains isolated from hospitalized patients clinical samples.Materials and methods: We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive observational study in 50 clinical isolates of Enterococcus spp. Only one isolate per patient was analyzed. The identification and antibiotic susceptibility were studied by conventional and automated methods. The phenotypic analysis of glycopeptide resistance mechanisms was performed as recommended by the Spanish Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Results: Of 50 isolates obtained from clinical samples, 30 (60.0%) belonged to Enterococcus faecalis and 20 (40.0%) to Enterococcus faecium. The global resistance expressed by this genre was as follows: Ampicillin, 38/50 (76.0%); high-level gentamicin, 33/50 (66.0%); high-level streptomycin, 34/50 (68.0%); ciprofloxacin, 26/50 (52.0%); linezolid, 4/50 (8.0%); teicoplanin, 17/50 (34.0%); vancomycin, 25/50 (50.0%); minocycline, 31/50 (62.0%); tetracycline, 34/50 (68.0%); nitrofurantoin, 9/50 (18.0%). As regards glycopeptides, 25/50 (50.0%) showed a Van A mechanism and 10/50 (20.0%) a Van B mechanism. Conclusions: The isolates obtained at Hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras showed higher resistance rates than those reported in the consulted literature. The high percentage of vancomycin-resistant strains might have influenced the development of other Gram-positive bacteria resistant to this drug. This is the first report on Enterococcus faecium resistant to linezolid in a Cuban hospital.

Digital marketing plan for a non-profit organization

    Get PDF
This is a project oriented thesis with the objective of creating a digital marketing plan for the commissioning organization Small Steps. The theoretical framework explains the digital marketing terms and methods and presents the necessary tools for digital marketing plan development. Since the organization provides holistic health and wellness services, the theoretical part includes a literature review for marketing complementary and alternative therapies and the motivations for seeking health and wellness services. The digital marketing plan was created using the SOSTAC® planning model by P. R. Smith. The main recommendations were to use paid advertising, content marketing, social media marketing, and search engine optimization. The plan was presented to the commissioning company and the thesis reports the feedback that was received. The digital marketing plan is attached as an appendix. The thesis process evaluation and assessment of student’s own learning are reported in the last chapter of the thesis report
