Regression algorithms to comprehend the impact of macroeconomic indicators on sovereign credit default swap spreads

This paper demonstrates the different impacts that macroeconomic indicators can have on CDS premiums – which represents a rough estimate by investors of the probability that a country will default – for Colombia, Chile, and Mexico. Through a data science approach, which includes preprocessing steps and the implementation of several regression machine learning algorithms, three different groups have been identified. Terms of trade is the only indicator that is considered as having a strong impact on CDS premiums. Five other indicators are considered as having a medium impact, among which inflation and short-term interest rates. The rest of the indicators studied by this paper have low impact on CDS premiums. All these different magnitudes of impacts can be explained by the debt dynamics equation which is discussed at the end of the paper

Experimenting the Sustainability Transition in Montreal Laneways: The Nos milieux de vie ! Case Study

Climate change results from persistent problems, the solving of which calls for innovative approaches. Transition experiments attempt to do just that. The goal of this paper is to present the experimentation project Nos milieux de vie !, carried out in Montreal by the non-profit organization Solon and the UQAM Research Chair on Sustainability Transitions, as well as to elucidate the results obtained during the first phases of the project and the methodological adaptations made over the course of the transition experiments. Our descriptions of the Nos milieux de vie ! project alongside a presentation of results achieved one year into the project have allowed us to identify four principal learnings concerning the crucial role of Solon as a mediator; the existence of diverse temporalities within the project; the importance of adapting to the demands and needs of participants; and the existence of social drivers of sustainability transitions.Les changements climatiques découlent de problèmes persistants qui impliquent d’innover dans les manières de les aborder. Les expérimentations de transition représentent des tentatives en ce sens. L’objectif de cet article est de présenter le projet d’expérimentation Nos milieux de vie ! mené à Montréal avec l’organisme Solon, afin de rendre compte des apprentissages acquis lors des premières phases du projet et des adaptations méthodologiques effectuées au cours des expérimentations de transition auxquelles ces projets ont donné lieu. Les explications de la démarche du projet Nos milieux de vie ! et la présentation des résultats de la première année permettent d’identifi er quatre apprentissages principaux : le rôle crucial de Solon comme organisme de médiation, l’existence de temporalités diverses au sein du projet, l’importance de s’adapter aux demandes et aux besoins des participants, et l’existence de déterminants sociaux de la transition écologique

Het Taalatelier:taalstimulerende activiteiten voor kinderen uit groep 4/5

In het voorjaar van 2017 startten SKSG en obs De Feniks in Groningen het project Taalatelier, dat een vervolg kreeg in schooljaar 2017-2018. Pedagogisch medewerkers (verder: pm’ers) Rene Liet en Manon Jongsma van SKSG ontvingen op woensdag- en vrijdagmiddag een groep kinderen uit groep 4-5 om motiverende activiteiten te ondernemen met een focus op taalontwikkeling. De reden hiervoor was de achterblijvende taalprestatie van een deel van de kinderen in deze groepen. Het doel van het Taalatelier was om het taal- en leesplezier van kinderen te verhogen. De pm’ers bedachten en gaven vorm aan betekenisvolle activiteiten. Vanuit het Lectoraat Integraal Jeugdbeleid van de Hanzehogeschool Groningen werden zij begeleid door ons, docent-onderzoekers die ondersteuning boden op het gebied van taalstimulering. In deze publicatie zijn de door de pm’ers ontwikkelde activiteiten opgenomen, zodat in de toekomst ook andere pm’ers een taalatelier kunnen vormgeven en uitvoeren. Prendre le terrain pour objet : une expérience de recherche collective sur les espaces publics à Ibadan, Nigeria

Cet article s’appuie sur la réalisation de brefs terrains collectifs dans différents espaces publics de la ville d’Ibadan au Nigeria. Il propose une réflexion sur l’insertion de jeunes étudiantes blanches occidentales dans ces espaces publics ainsi que dans les groupes de recherche concernés. Nous souhaitons comprendre dans quelle mesure notre positionnement a pu se révéler contraignant tout en nous renseignant sur les terrains étudiés.This article relies on short field works realized in different public spaces in the city of Ibadan, Nigeria. It provides a reflection on young Western white female students’ integration in these public spaces and in their research groups. We try to understand to what extent our position may have been both restrictive and useful for the understanding of our fieldworks

Implication Statement Addressing the topic of death is essential to empower healthcare professionals to work with people, but there is a lack of training in this area. This study presents the perceptions of students and educators regarding the use of metaphor and artistic creation to explore values, prejudices, emotions, and experiential knowledge related to death. The pedagogical innovation allowed students to reflect on and express their perceptions of death, while also experiencing a listening posture, thereby contributing to the development of communication skills, among others.Énoncé des implications de la recherche Aborder le thème de la mort est un incontournable pour habiliter les personnes professionnelles de la santé à intervenir auprès des gens, mais la formation offerte sur ce sujet est insuffisante.
