The composing process of engineers, some implications for composing research for the teaching and research of technical communication, and an interpretation of the processes as creative experience are also discussed. Two areas of technical communications summarized concern: the rhetorical features of technical communications, and the theoretical background for a process-based view, a problem-solving approach to technical writing

A Review of Statistical Learning Methods with Applications

Statistical learning refers to a set of tools for modelling and understanding complex datasets. It is a recently developed area in statistics and blends with parallel developments in computer science and, in particular, machine learning. This paper aims to outline some of the key statistical learning methods in the areas of prediction and classification of data. The goal is to discuss the theory and methodology of Ordinary Least Squares Regression, Ridge Regression, Lasso Regression, Logistic Regression, K-Nearest Neighbours method of classification, Linear and Quadratic Discriminant analysis, and Classification Trees. We then discuss the idea of Cross Validation, and demonstrate these methods by applying them to two real-life datasets

In the world economy, Indonesian women actually already have equality with men. The real economic activity in real business such as in the traditional markets has dominated by the women. In West Sumatra, which adheres matriarkhat line, women master the customary property affairs since long time. In Bali, women\u27s labor work not only on a soft job but also work on harsh work, such as brick-layer. The empirical evidence indicated that women have taken an important role in the management and wealth empowerment, not only in the realm of family, but also in the realm business activities, such as home industry and large-scale businesses

Sharia Supervisory Board (DPS) is one of the most important part in the system of Islamic financial and banking institutions in Indonesia. The existence of DPS is recognized based on applicable laws and regulations. The existence of DPS in sharia financial institutions and sharia banking aims to oversee sharia principles that must be implemented in real terms in the contract system and transactions in Islamic financial and banking institutions. Empirically, the recognition of legislation on the existence of DPS has not been fully implemented by Islamic financial and banking institutions. In fact, recommendations regarding the findings of sharia principles violations in the contract system and transactions in sharia financial and banking institutions often receive a response from the board of directors. Therefore, the most important indicator that DPS must have is the professionalism of its human resources. Competence is a determinant factor in recruiting DPS. These competencies include aspects of mastery of fiqh muamalah theories, competency in reading financial statements, and competencies in the field of engagement law

INTERNET dan PENGGUNAANNYA (Survei di Kalangan Masyarakat Kabupaten Takalar Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan)

Keberadaan internet di Indonesia sebagai media konvergensi, resminya diakui pemerintah yaitu sejak Bangsa Indonesia resmi bergabung dengan WSIS bentukan UNESCO. Dengan begitu, Indonesia langsung aktif mengikuti aktivitas pertemuan WSIS, pertama di Swiss thn 2003 dan kedua di Tunisia tahun 2005. Dengan aktivitas dua pertemuan tadi, bangsa Indonesia tampak langsung berupaya mengejar ketertinggalannya dengan negara-negara yang lebih maju dalam bidang internet seperti negara-negara di Eropa dan Amerika. Beberapa hal yang menandai upaya tadi misalnya, Indonesia menargetkan 50% masyarakatnya sudah terkoneksi dengan internet pada tahun 2015[1]; terbentuknya berbagai program yang berupaya meningkatkan akses masyarakat terhadap internet seperti E-Goverment, Telecenter, Mobile Community Acces Point (MCAP), CAP, PLIK MPLIK, Desa Pintar, atau SMART City.[1]“Pertumbuhan pengguna internet di Indonesia kian tak terbendung. Jumlah pengguna internet tumbuh signifikan hingga 22% dari 62 juta di tahun 2012 menjadi 74,57 juta di tahun 2013. Menurut lembaga riset MarkPlus Insight, angka jumlah pengguna Internet di Indonesia akan menembus 100 juta jiwa di tahun 2015 nanti. KOMPUTER DAN MASYARAKAT PEDESAAN PANTAI (Survai Pengenalan Dan Pengetahuan Komputer Di Kalangan Masyarakat Desa Pesisir Kelurahan Untia Kecamatan Biringkanaya Kota Makassar)

Pentingnya peran TIK bagi perwujudan masyarakat informasi dikemukakan melalui WSIS telah mendorong berbagai negara untuk segera berkomitmen menciptakan information society. Melalui dua pertemuan di Swiss dan Tunisia akhirnya beratus negara, termasuk Indonesia berkomitmen melalui deklarasi WSIS menciptakan masyarakat informasi. Dari dua pertemuan, dicanangkan terwujudnya ICT literacy pada 50 % penduduk dunia tahun 2015 dan 100 % tahun 2025. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengenalan dan pengetahuan komputer di Kalangan Masyarakat Desa Pesisir Kelurahan Untia Kecamatan Biringkanaya Kota Makassar. Penelitian dilaksanakan berdasarkan paradigma positivistik dengan pendekatan kuantitatif melalui metode survei. Obyek penelitian adalah anggota masyarakat desa pantai Kelurahan Untia Kecamatan Biringkanaya yang terpilih sebagai responden di lokasi sampel penelitian. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar masyarakat desa pesisir Kelurahan Untia menyatakan pernah mendengar kata komputer dan menerima informasi tentang komputer melalui banyak cara yaitu melalui pendidikan formal maupun pendidikan informal. Selanjutnya, fenomena pengetahuan terkait ragam komponen ouput, input, storage, aplikasi, dan sistem operasi masyarakat desa pesisir Kelurahan Untia telah mengetahuinya dengan baik. Disarankan kepada Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika untuk melakukan Perumusan kebijakan di bidang pembangunan ICT Literacy dalam rangka proses bridging the rural–urban devide. Selain itu, diharapkan juga membuat ICT Literacy untuk mendukung pengurangan kemiskinan dengan akses yang mudah digunakan bagi masyarakat perdesaan pesisir

The effects of newly measured cross sections in hydrogen on the production of secondary nuclei during the propagation of cosmic rays through interstellar H

The cross sections of six important cosmic ray source nuclei in hydrogen at several energies between 300 and 1800 MeV/nuc were measured. Significant differences, sometimes exceeding 50%, exist between these new measurements and the earlier semiempirical predictions, and a new set of semiempirical formulae are being determined that better describe this fragmentation. New cross sections were obtained so that the systematics of their effects on cosmic ray propagation through interstellar hydrogen can be examined
