Analysis of the Inland Port Regionalization Process in Spain
AbstractThe aim of this paper is to analyse and compare the ability of the main Spanish containers ports to penetrate into their inland territory along the last decade. To achieve this goal we firstly identify the inland origin of the container cargo by considering the location of the Spanish companies generating those flows in the peninsula. Then we determine the distribution of flows among the considered ports from 2000 to 2010, setting the boundaries of their hinterlands along that period. Finally we use two indexes to assess the evolution of these hinterlands in a complementary way: by their scope and their homogeneity.Furthermore, considering that the inter-port distribution of the traffic can change according to their composition, we repeat the analysis in a disaggregate way; that is, separately for each one of the main flows (by volume) of the Spanish foreign trade on the basis of the Combined Nomenclature Clasification. The main results show that the port of Valencia is the one whose hinterland has better evolved: by increasing its scope and by reducing its dependency both geographical as by type of flow. They also highlight that the main centres generating the maritime container flows are closer to this port than to the rest. Also these results allow us to conclude that this port regionalization process has not been oblivious to its economic environment but positively influenced by it
Improved partial regularity for manifold-constrained minimisers of subquadratic energies
We consider minimising -harmonic maps from three-dimensional domains to
the real projective plane, for . These maps arise as least-energy
configurations in variational models for nematic liquid crystals. We show that
the singular set of such a map decomposes into a -dimensional set, which can
be physically interpreted as a non-orientable line defect, and a locally finite
set, i.e. a collection of point defects.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figur
incluyen características habitualmente no consideradas: heterogeneidad aleatoria
This research focuses on port choice. Million of shipments from the hinterland
of the main Spanish peninsular container ports have been analysed.
Firstly, the evolution of the hinterland of ports in the study were delimited,
characterised and compared. The existence of inter-port competition was
confirmed both graphically and analytically.
Secondly, how the degree of use of port facilities affects the number of users
who choose that infrastructure was studied. The research raises the hypothesis
the more traffic a port has, the more attractive it becomes but there is a saturation
threshold beyond which the attractiveness of the port decreases. A multinomial
logit model is estimated, which without establishings restrictions a priori,
confirms its nonlinear influences and sets the threshold of saturation.
Finally, complex discrete choice models are calibrated and validate which
include characteristics that are usually not considered: random heterogeneity in
preferences of decision makers and non-linear influence of the shipping attributes.
They are compared in terms of their ability to predict with simpler models reaching
differences for the choice share close to 15%. It concludes that the mixed logit
model Box-Cox, which includes both characteristics fits to the calibration data
significantly better.[Resumo]

Cytogenetic characterization of “Donax trunculus” (Bivalvia: Donacidae) by means of karyotyping, fluorochrome banding and fluorescent “in situ” hybridization
[Abstract]: The chromosomes of “Donax trunculus” were analysed by means of Giemsa staining, chromomycin A3 (CA3), DAPI and fluorescent “in situ” hybridization (FISH) with an 18S-5.8S-28S rDNA probe. The diploid number is 38 chromosomes and the karyotype consists of nine pairs of metacentric chromosomes, two pairs of submetacentric-metacentric, seven pairs of submetacentric and one pair of telocentric chromosomes. CA3-positive bands are located on eight chromosome pairs and DAPI treatment resulted in uniform staining. Major ribosomal clusters 18S-5.8S-28S are located on the short arm of one submetacentric chromosome pair.Xunta de Galicia; XUGA 10306B9
Genetic divergence detected by ISSR markers and characterization of microsatellite regions in "Mytilus" mussels
[Abstract] The wide distribution of microsatellites in mussels of the Mytilus edulis complex (Mytilidae) enables the analysis of inter-simple-sequence repeat (ISSR) markers. The aim of this investigation was to assess genetic differentiation in six sampling localities distributed along the European Atlantic coast to expose the potential of these markers in genetic studies requiring the detection of low polymorphism and as a source of sequences for developing microsatellite markers. We detected low genetic structuring within each member of the Mytilus edulis complex. Nei and Li distances and AMOVA clustered the individuals studied into two groups. On the basis of these results two sampling localities coming from the M. edulis × M. galloprovincialis mosaic hybrid zone in Western Europe were assigned to one species. On the other hand, mussels of a sampling locality in the Baltic Sea were not significantly different from a pure M. edulis locality supporting an extensive introgression of M. edulis in these individuals. Finally, 148 microsatellites were found in the sequences of 51 ISSR markers, and two polymorphic microsatellite markers were developed.Xunta de Galicia; PGIDT10PX110304P
Integration of stable ionic liquid-based nanofluids into polymer membranes. Part I: Membrane synthesis and characterization
In this work, polymeric membranes functionalized with ionic liquids (ILs) and exfoliated graphene nanoplatelets (xGnP) were developed and characterized. These membranes based on graphene ionanofluids (IoNFs) are promising materials for gas separation. The stability of the selected IoNFs in the polymer membranes was determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The morphology of membranes was characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and interferometric optical profilometry (WLOP). SEM results evidence that upon the small addition of xGnP into the IL-dominated environment, the interaction between IL and xGnP facilitates the migration of xGnP to the surface, while suppressing the interaction between IL and Pebax®1657. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was also used to determine the polymer?IoNF interactions and the distribution of the IL in the polymer matrix. Finally, the thermodynamic properties and phase transitions (polymer-IoNF) of these functionalized membranes were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). This analysis showed a gradual decrease in the melting point of the polyamide (PA6) blocks with a decrease in the corresponding melting enthalpy and a complete disappearance of the crystallinity of the polyether (PEO) phase with increasing IL content. This evidences the high compatibility and good mixing of the polymer and the IoNFAuthors fully acknowledge the financial support received from Project KET4F-Gas-SOE2/P1/P0823, which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund within the framework of Interreg Sudoe Programme and project PID2019-105827RB-I00–Agencia Estatal de Investigación, Spain. The potential of ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) for detection of 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (2,4,6-TCA) in wine
The off-flavor of "tainted wine" is attributed mainly to the presence of 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (2,4,6-TCA) in the wine. In the present study the atmospheric pressure gas-phase ion chemistry, pertaining to ion mobility spectrometry, of 2,4,6-trichloroanisole was investigated. In positive ion mode the dominant species is a monomer ion with a lower intensity dimer species with reduced mobility values (K0) of 1.58 and 1.20 cm2 V−1 s−1, respectively. In negative mode the ion with K0 = 1.64 cm2 V−1 s−1 is ascribed to a trichlorophenoxide species while the ions with K0 = 1.48 and 1.13 cm2 V−1 s−1 are attributed to chloride attachment adducts of a TCA monomer and dimer, respectively. The limit of detection of the system for 2,4,6-TCA dissolved in dichloromethane deposited on a filter paper was 2.1 μg and 1.7 ppm in the gas phase. In ethanol and in wine the limit of detection is higher implying that pre-concentration and pre-separation are required before IMS can be used to monitor the level of TCA in wine
