The Basic Cycles of Vocational Training: Student Satisfaction and Perceived Benefit

    Get PDF
This study aims to better understand students who attend Basic Vocational Training Cycles (Basic Professional Training, BTP) by implementing measures that ensure diversity. This quantitative research project approximated students’ perception of their passage through previous studies and their satisfaction and goals after finishing the school year. The sample consisted of 352 students from Cordoba (Spain). A questionnaire was used that follows the CIPP model. After exploratory factor analysis was completed with different groups of items and their descriptive analyses, various tests were carried out to consider the hypotheses (Pearson’s correlation (r), one-factor analysis of variance, and repeated ANOVA measures). The results indicate that the educational interest of the students is academic and professional. Likewise, there is no relationship detected between socio-professional goals and average academic levels and attributions with respect to repetitions of previous courses, although these goals vary depending on students’ satisfaction with the vocational cycles. We conclude that the course of the FPB influences decisions regarding academic–professional projects

Simple analysis and design of a new leaky-wave directional coupler in hybrid dielectric-waveguide printed-circuit technology

This paper presents a new theory to analyze and design a novel leaky-wave coupler based on a hybrid dielectric-waveguide printed-circuit technology. The analysis theory is based on a combined method of moments (MoM) geometrical optics (GO) technique, which makes use of the leaky mode complex propagation constant. This MoM-GO approach allows to easily obtain the response of the coupler, and to illustratively understand the working mechanism of the proposed structure. A coupler is designed to work at 5.5 GHz. Leaky mode results are compared with three-dimensional finite-element method simulations, showing the validity and accuracy of the new theory developed. This novel directional coupler presents interesting advantages when compared to previous wave couplersThis work was supported in part under Spanish National Project ESP2001-4546-PE and Spanish National Project TEC2004-04313-C02-02-TCM and under the Regional Séneca Project 2002PB/4/FS/02

Kernel-Based Framework for Multitemporal and Multisource Remote Sensing Data Classification and Change Detection

    Get PDF
The multitemporal classification of remote sensing images is a challenging problem, in which the efficient combination of different sources of information (e.g., temporal, contextual, or multisensor) can improve the results. In this paper, we present a general framework based on kernel methods for the integration of heterogeneous sources of information. Using the theoretical principles in this framework, three main contributions are presented. First, a novel family of kernel-based methods for multitemporal classification of remote sensing images is presented. The second contribution is the development of nonlinear kernel classifiers for the well-known difference and ratioing change detection methods by formulating them in an adequate high-dimensional feature space. Finally, the presented methodology allows the integration of contextual information and multisensor images with different levels of nonlinear sophistication. The binary support vector (SV) classifier and the one-class SV domain description classifier are evaluated by using both linear and nonlinear kernel functions. Good performance on synthetic and real multitemporal classification scenarios illustrates the generalization of the framework and the capabilities of the proposed algorithms.Publicad

Non-linear System Identification with Composite Relevance Vector Machines

    Get PDF
Nonlinear system identification based on relevance vector machines (RVMs) has been traditionally addressed by stacking the input and/or output regressors and then performing standard RVM regression. This letter introduces a full family of composite kernels in order to integrate the input and output information in the mapping function efficiently and hence generalize the standard approach. An improved trade-off between accuracy and sparsity is obtained in several benchmark problems. Also, the RVM yields confidence intervals for the predictions, and it is less sensitive to free parameter selectionPublicad

    Kernel antenna array processing

We introduce two support vector machine (SVM)-based approaches for solving antenna problems such as beamforming, sidelobe suppression, and maximization of the signal-to-noise ratio. A basic introduction to SVM optimization is provided and a complex nonlinear SVM formulation developed to handle antenna array processing in space and time. The new optimization formulation is compared with both the minimum mean square error and the minimum variance distortionless response methods. Several examples are included to show the performance of the new approachesPublicad

The purposes of this study were to analyze the satisfaction with PE and the perception of the students about of the Teacher´ Instructional Behaviours.
