    Las concepciones de los futuros maestros sobre los fenómenos que pueden ocurrir al poner dos sustancias en contacto

    En el contexto de la formación inicial de maestros estudiamos las concepciones de los estudiantes de Magisterio sobre los fenómenos que pueden ocurrir al poner dos sustancias en contacto, antes y después de realizar diferentes experiencias en el laboratorio. Los resultados indican que las mezclas son previstas inicialmente por la mayoría de los grupos de trabajo, mientras que los cambios químicos sólo lo son después de realizar las experiencias. Si bien el cambio en las propuestas de los grupos es muy heterogéneo, la mayoría se caracteriza por incluir al final una mayor presencia de los indicadores observables de los cambios químicos (cambio de color y producción de un gas) También se detecta la aparición de la idea de al poner dos sustancias en contacto pueden cambiar de estado

    MAES students expectations and conceptions of the Science specialty

    Este trabajo forma parte de una investigación realizada con una muestra amplia de estudiantes del Máster Universitario en Formación de Profesorado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria (MAES) en las especialidades de Ciencias, de la mayoría de las universidades públicas de Andalucía y en un grupo de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, sobre sus expectativas y concepciones didácticas. Los resultados de un Cuestionario de Expectativas y del Inventario de Creencias Científicas y Pedagógicas (INPECIP) (Porlán, 1989), antes y después de realizar el Módulo Específico, muestran una escasa evolución tanto en sus expectativas como en sus concepciones iniciales.This project belongs to a research effort done among a big sample of MAES (Máster in Teacher Training Secondary Education) students specialized in science, from most of the public universities in Andalucía and a group of Universidad Complutense of Madrid. The research has been focus on students’ expectations and teaching conceptions. The results of a questionnaire about scientific and educational beliefs (INPECIP, Porlán, 1989), before and after studying this specific master, shows a few evolution between this final expectations and perceptions and the ones they had before

    Caveolin-1 Modulates Mechanotransduction Responses to Substrate Stiffness through Actin-Dependent Control of YAP

    The transcriptional regulator YAP orchestrates many cellular functions, including tissue homeostasis, organ growth control, and tumorigenesis. Mechanical stimuli are a key input to YAP activity, but the mechanisms controlling this regulation remain largely uncharacterized. We show that CAV1 positively modulates the YAP mechanoresponse to substrate stiffness through actin-cytoskeleton-dependent and Hippo-kinase-independent mechanisms. RHO activity is necessary, but not sufficient, for CAV1-dependent mechanoregulation of YAP activity. Systematic quantitative interactomic studies and image-based small interfering RNA (siRNA) screens provide evidence that this actin-dependent regulation is determined by YAP interaction with the 14-3-3 protein YWHAH. Constitutive YAP activation rescued phenotypes associated with CAV1 loss, including defective extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. CAV1-mediated control of YAP activity was validated in vivo in a model of pancreatitis-driven acinar-to-ductal metaplasia. We propose that this CAV1-YAP mechanotransduction system controls a significant share of cell programs linked to these two pivotal regulators, with potentially broad physiological and pathological implications. Moreno-Vicente et al. report that CAV1, a key component of PM mechanosensing caveolae, mediates adaptation to ECM rigidity by modulating YAP activity through the control of actin dynamics and phosphorylation-dependent interaction of YAP with the 14-3-3-domain protein YWHAH.     Un estudio comparativo sobre el pensamiento profesional y la "acción docente" de los profesores de ciencias de Educación Secundaria. Parte II

    Este artículo es la segunda parte de una investigación más amplia sobre el pensamiento del profesor (Martínez et al., 2001). En este caso el estudio gira en torno al análisis de las diferencias y similitudes entre dos muestras de profesores de ciencias de educación secundaria que difieren en sus años de docencia y en su trayectoria profesional, definida por la realización de cursos de formación permanente de alta cualificación científica y didáctica. En un primer apartado se analizan facetas relacionadas con la motivación y la satisfacción en la realización de su tarea, la manera de entender la formación del profesor y sus percepciones sobre diferentes factores profesionales. A continuación se aborda lo que «dicen hacer» en relación a aspectos curriculares referidos a contenidos, metodología y evaluación. A partir del análisis de las respuestas a los cuestionarios elaborados se plantean una serie de reflexiones que buscarían mejorar el «desarrollo profesional» de este colectivo de profesores.This article is a part of a wider research on secondary science teachers' beliefs.     Caveolin-1 is required for TGF-β-induced transactivation of the EGF receptor pathway in hepatocytes through the activation of the metalloprotease TACE/ADAM17

    Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) plays a dual role in hepatocytes, inducing both pro- and anti-apoptotic responses, whose balance decides cell fate. Survival signals are mediated by the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway, which is activated by TGF-β in these cells. Caveolin-1 (Cav1) is a structural protein of caveolae linked to TGF-β receptors trafficking and signaling. Previous results have indicated that in hepatocytes, Cav1 is required for TGF-β-induced anti-apoptotic signals, but the molecular mechanism is not fully understood yet. In this work, we show that immortalized Cav1(-/-) hepatocytes were more sensitive to the pro-apoptotic effects induced by TGF-β, showing a higher activation of caspase-3, higher decrease in cell viability and prolonged increase through time of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). These results were coincident with attenuation of TGF-β-induced survival signals in Cav1(-/-) hepatocytes, such as AKT and ERK1/2 phosphorylation and NFκ-B activation. Transactivation of the EGFR pathway by TGF-β was impaired in Cav1(-/-) hepatocytes, which correlated with lack of activation of TACE/ADAM17, the metalloprotease responsible for the shedding of EGFR ligands. Reconstitution of Cav1 in Cav1(-/-) hepatocytes rescued wild-type phenotype features, both in terms of EGFR transactivation and TACE/ADAM17 activation. TACE/ADAM17 was localized in detergent-resistant membrane (DRM) fractions in Cav1(+/+) cells, which was not the case in Cav1(-/-) cells. Disorganization of lipid rafts after treatment with cholesterol-binding agents caused loss of TACE/ADAM17 activation after TGF-β treatment. In conclusion, in hepatocytes, Cav1 is required for TGF-β-mediated activation of the metalloprotease TACE/ADAM17 that is responsible for shedding of EGFR ligands and activation of the EGFR pathway, which counteracts the TGF-β pro-apoptotic effects.     Reducing MYC's transcriptional footprint unveils a good prognostic gene signature in melanoma

In melanoma, its deregulated activity by amplification of 8q24 chromosome or by upstream signaling coming from activating mutations in the RAS/RAF/MAPK pathway—the most predominantly mutated pathway in this disease—turns MYC into not only a driver but also a facilitator of melanoma progression, with documented effects leading to an aggressive clinical course and resistance to targeted therapy. Here, by making use of Omomyc, the most characterized MYC inhibitor to date that has just successfully completed a phase I clinical trial, we show for the first time that MYC inhibition in melanoma induces remarkable transcriptional modulation, resulting in severely compromised tumor growth and a clear abrogation of metastatic capacity independently of the driver mutation.
