Con motivo de la conmemoración del centenario de la Gran Guerra (1914-1918) son muchas las iniciativas académicas y extraacadémicas que están revisando cómo se desarrolló este acontecimiento bélico, sus causas y consecuencias. Desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar, cabe plantear un recorrido sobre la producción historiográfica alusiva a la Gran Guerra, destacando la evolución de los estudios y las tendencias seguidas por aquellos investigadores internacionales y españoles, que durante una centuria han profundizado en las dimensiones de esta tragedia que marca la evolución histórica del siglo XX

Playing against the «Spanish fury» (1910-1936)

En los estudios sobre la historia de los deportes, el fútbol practicado por varones ha sido el que mayor número de investigaciones ha recibido. Por esta razón, en este artículo nos preguntamos si en España las mujeres también tuvieron cabida en este deporte y cómo fue la imagen que se proyectó de su juego. A partir de un estudio de prensa del primer tercio del siglo XX, analizamos el imaginario creado alrededor del mito de «la furia española» en los Juegos Olímpicos de Amberes de 1920. Como resultado encontramos, por un lado, que ciertas características físicas y de juego de los varones se proyectaban en los discursos como propias de su sexo. In this article, we wonder whether Spanish women had a place in this sport and, if so, what kind of image their game produced. Our findings show, on the one hand, that certain characteristics of the male footballers and the way they played were interpreted as «natural». Aspectos médico-legales de las agresiones al personal sanitario y su consideración como delito de atentado

Producción CientíficaEn los últimos años venimos asistiendo a una proliferación de casos judiciales de profesionales sanitarios que, con ocasión de la prestación de la asistencia sanitaria con agredidos o maltratados de palabra o físicamente por pacientes descontentos. Las agresiones a los profesionales de los servicios sanitarios, por pacientes o sus familiares y acompañantes, es otra de las manifestaciones de una intolerancia creciente. Y no sólo en nuestro medio si no también en países de nuestro entorno. En este trabajo, destacamos la importancia que ha tenido el reconocimiento, por parte del Tribunal Supremo, de la consideración de “delito de atentado” como modalidad agravada de las agresiones contra los profesionales sanitarios, con una primera sentencia dictada el 4 de diciembre 2007. Sin embargo, aún falta una resolución en el mismo sentido de este tribunal para que se cree jurisprudencia. La importancia reside en que con esta calificación los agresores se enfrentan a penas de cárcel, mayores indemnizaciones y el agresor tendrá antecedentes penales, por lo que será más ejemplarizante y tendrá un positivo efecto disuasorio

De las excavaciones arqueológicas de urgencia efectuadas recientemente en el solar de la calle Cuatro Santos n." 17 de Cartagena entre los aspectos más relevantes que se han podido poner de manifiesto en estos trabajos, ha sido poder constatar, en los primeros niveles de los cortes excavados, la existencia de una zona urbana utilizada como vertedero durante época tardía. Entre el importante volumen de materiales cerámicos que precisamente ha proporcionado este vertedero, correspondiente a un contexto cronológico entre los siglos V al VII d. C , destacar, en esta ocasión, dos lucernas cuyos motivos decorativos son característicos de la iconografía cristiana que predomina en este tipo de lámparas tardías. (...

Subdivisions in a bipartite graph

Given a bipartite graph G with m and n vertices, respectively,in its vertices classes, and given two integers s, t such that 2 ≤ s ≤ t, 0 ≤ m−s ≤ n−t, and m+n ≤ 2s+t−1, we prove that if G has at least mn−(2(m−s)+n−t) edges then it contains a subdivision of the complete bipartite $K_(s,t)$ with s vertices in the m-class and t vertices in the n-class. Furthermore, we characterize the corresponding extremal bipartite graphs with mn − (2(m − s) + n − t + 1) edges for this topological Turan type problem.Peer Reviewe

Explicit context matching in content-based publish/subscribe systems

Although context could be exploited to improve performance, elasticity and adaptation in most distributed systems that adopt the publish/subscribe (P/S) communication model, only a few researchers have focused on the area of context-aware matching in P/S systems and have explored its implications in domains with highly dynamic context like wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and IoT-enabled applications. Most adopted P/S models are context agnostic or do not differentiate context from the other application data. In this article, we present a novel context-aware P/S model. SilboPS manages context explicitly, focusing on the minimization of network overhead in domains with recurrent context changes related, for example, to mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). Our approach represents a solution that helps to efficiently share and use sensor data coming from ubiquitous WSNs across a plethora of applications intent on using these data to build context awareness. Specifically, we empirically demonstrate that decoupling a subscription from the changing context in which it is produced and leveraging contextual scoping in the filtering process notably reduces (un)subscription cost per node, while improving the global performance/throughput of the network of brokers without fltering the cost of SIENA-like topology changes

Lymphocyte Display: A Novel Antibody Selection Platform Based on T Cell Activation

Since their onset, display technologies have proven useful for the selection of antibodies against a variety of targets; however, most of the antibodies selected with the currently available platforms need to be further modified for their use in humans, and are restricted to accessible antigens. Furthermore, these platforms are not well suited for in vivo selections. We present here a novel cell based antibody display platform, which takes advantage of the functional capabilities of T lymphocytes. The display of antibodies on the surface of T lymphocytes, as a part of a chimeric-immune receptor (CIR) mediating signaling, may ideally link the antigen-antibody interaction to a demonstrable change in T cell phenotype, due to subsequent expression of the early T cell activation marker CD69. In this proof-of-concept, an in vitro selection was carried out using a human T cell line lentiviral-transduced to express a tumor-specific CIR on the surface, against a human tumor cell line expressing the carcinoembryonic antigen. Based on an effective interaction between the CIR and the tumor antigen, we demonstrated that combining CIR-mediated activation with FACS sorting of CD69+ T cells, it is possible to isolate binders to tumor specific cell surface antigen, with an enrichment factor of at least 103-fold after two rounds, resulting in a homogeneous population of T cells expressing tumor-specific CIRs
