Dynamic Scaling in Diluted Systems Phase Transitions: Deactivation trough Thermal Dilution
Activated scaling is confirmed to hold in transverse field induced phase
transitions of randomly diluted Ising systems. Quantum Monte Carlo calculations
have been made not just at the percolation threshold but well bellow and above
it including the Griffiths-McCoy phase. A novel deactivation phenomena in the
Griffiths-McCoy phase is observed using a thermal (in contrast to random)

Universality Class of Thermally Diluted Ising Systems at Criticality
The universality class of thermally diluted Ising systems, in which the
realization of the disposition of magnetic atoms and vacancies is taken from
the local distribution of spins in the pure original Ising model at
criticality, is investigated by finite size scaling techniques using the Monte
Carlo method. We find that the critical temperature, the critical exponents and
therefore the universality class of these thermally diluted Ising systems
depart markedly from the ones of short range correlated disordered systems. Our
results agree fairly well with theoretical predictions previously made by
Weinrib and Halperin for systems with long range correlated disorder.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, RevTe
The short and long-term effects of aerobic, strength, or mixed exercise programs on schizophrenia symptomatology
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of three different physical exercise programs on the symptomatology, body composition, physical activity, physical fitness, and quality of life of individuals with schizophrenia. A total of 432 patients were assessed for eligibility and 86 were randomized into the aerobic (n = 28), strength (n = 29) or mixed (n = 29) groups. Positive, negative, and general symptoms of psychosis, body mass index (BMI), physical activity (IPAQ-SF), physical fitness (6-min walk test [6MWT] and hand-grip strength [HGS]), and quality of life (WHOQUOL-BREF) were assessed at baseline, post-intervention (16 weeks), and at 10-months. Our results at 16 weeks showed significant improvements in all three groups in the negative, general, and total symptoms with moderate to large effect sizes (P < 0.01, ¿p2 > 0.11), no change in the BMI, 6MWT or IPAQ-SF, and a significant improvement in the HGS test in the strength and mixed groups (P = 0.05, ¿p2 > 0.08). Nonetheless, all the improvements had disappeared at 10 months. We concluded that 3 weekly sessions of a moderate to vigorous progressive exercise program for 16 weeks improved the symptomatology of individuals with schizophrenia in all three groups, with no differences between them. However, the effects had declined to baseline levels by the 10-month follow-up, suggesting that exercise interventions should be maintained over time. © 2021, The Author(s)
Metamaterials proposed as perfect magnetoelectrics
Magnetoelectric susceptibility of a metamaterial built from split ring
resonators have been investigated both experimentally and within an equivalent
circuit model. The absolute values have been shown to exceed by two orders of
magnitude that of classical magnetoelectric materials. The metamaterial
investigated reaches the theoretically predicted value of the magnetoelectric
susceptibility which is equal to the geometric average of the electric and

The three-dimensional randomly dilute Ising model: Monte Carlo results
We perform a high-statistics simulation of the three-dimensional randomly
dilute Ising model on cubic lattices with . We choose a
particular value of the density, x=0.8, for which the leading scaling
corrections are suppressed. We determine the critical exponents, obtaining , , , and ,
in agreement with previous numerical simulations. We also estimate numerically
the fixed-point values of the four-point zero-momentum couplings that are used
in field-theoretical fixed-dimension studies. Although these results somewhat
differ from those obtained using perturbative field theory, the
field-theoretical estimates of the critical exponents do not change
significantly if the Monte Carlo result for the fixed point is used. Finally,
we determine the six-point zero-momentum couplings, relevant for the
small-magnetization expansion of the equation of state, and the invariant
amplitude ratio that expresses the universality of the free-energy

Determinants of the current and future distribution of the West Nile virus mosquito vector Culex pipiens in Spain
Changes in environmental conditions, whether related or not to human activities, are continuously modifying the geographic distribution of vectors, which in turn affects the dynamics and distribution of vector-borne infectious diseases. Determining the main ecological drivers of vector distribution and how predicted changes in these drivers may alter their future distributions is therefore of major importance. However, the drivers of vector populations are largely specific to each vector species and region. Here, we identify the most important human-activity-related and bioclimatic predictors affecting the current distribution and habitat suitability of the mosquito Culex pipiens and potential future changes in its distribution in Spain. We determined the niche of occurrence (NOO) of the species, which considers only those areas lying within the range of suitable environmental conditions using presence data. Although almost ubiquitous, the distribution of Cx. pipiens is mostly explained by elevation and the degree of urbanization but also, to a lesser extent, by mean temperatures during the wettest season and temperature seasonality. The combination of these predictors highlights the existence of a heterogeneous pattern of habitat suitability, with most suitable areas located in the southern and northeastern coastal areas of Spain, and unsuitable areas located at higher altitude and in colder regions. Future climatic predictions indicate a net decrease in distribution of up to 29.55%, probably due to warming and greater temperature oscillations. Despite these predicted changes in vector distribution, their effects on the incidence of infectious diseases are, however, difficult to forecast since different processes such as local adaptation to temperature, vector-pathogen interactions, and human-derived changes in landscape may play important roles in shaping the future dynamics of pathogen transmission.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
Diet quality index as a predictor of treatment efficacy in overweight and obese adolescents: The EVASYON study
Background & aim: A diet quality index (DQI) is a tool that provides an overall score of an individual''s dietary intake when assessing compliance with food-based dietary guidelines. A number of DQIs have emerged, albeit their associations with health-related outcomes are debated. The aim of the present study was to assess whether adherence to dietary intervention, and the overall quality of the diet, can predict body composition changes. Methods: To this purpose, overweight/obese adolescents (n = 117, aged: 13–16 years; 51 males, 66 females) were recruited into a multi-component (diet, physical activity and psychological support) family-based group treatment programme. We measured the adolescents’ compliance and body composition at baseline and after 2 months (intensive phase) and 13 months (extensive phase) of follow-up. Also, at baseline, after 6 months, and at the end of follow-up we calculated the DQI. Results: Global compliance with the dietary intervention was 37.4% during the intensive phase, and 14.3% during the extensive phase. Physical activity compliance was 94.1% at 2-months and 34.7% at 13months and psychological support compliance were growing over the intervention period (10.3% intensive phase and 45.3% during extensive phase). Adolescents complying with the meal frequency criteria at the end of the extensive phase had greater reductions in FMI z-scores than those did not complying (Cohen''s d = 0.53). A statistically significant association was observed with the diet quality index. DQI-A variation explained 98.1% of BMI z-score changes and 95.1% of FMI changes. Conclusions: We conclude that assessment of changes in diet quality could be a useful tool in predicting body composition changes in obese adolescents involved in a diet and physical activity intervention programme backed-up by psychological and family support
Detection of Wear in One-Cathode Plasma Torch Electrodes and its Impact on Velocity and Temperature of Injected Particles
Wear at the electrode surfaces of a one-cathode plasma torch changes the characteristic fluctuation pattern of the plasma jet. This affects the trajectory of the particles injected into the plasma jet in a non-controllable way, which degrades the reproducibility of the process. Time-based voltage measurements and Fourier analysis were carried out on a one-cathode F4 torch at different wear conditions to determine the evolution of wear dependant characteristics. A significant correlation is observed between increasing torch wear and decreasing voltage roughness and high frequency noise. Furthermore, by means of particle diagnostic systems, the change in the particle velocity and temperature has been measured. The variations of the particle characteristics are significant and thus an influence on the sprayed coating microstructure is to be expected
