Extended geometry and gauged maximal supergravity
We consider generalized diffeomorphisms on an extended mega-space associated
to the U-duality group of gauged maximal supergravity in four dimensions, E_7.
Through the bein for the extended metric we derive dynamical (field-dependent)
fluxes taking values in the representations allowed by supersymmetry, and
obtain their quadratic constraints from gauge consistency conditions. A
covariant generalized Ricci tensor is introduced, defined in terms of a
connection for the generalized diffeomorphisms. We show that for any
torsionless and metric-compatible generalized connection, the Ricci scalar
reproduces the scalar potential of gauged maximal supergravity. We comment on
how these results extend to other groups and dimensions.Comment: 41 pages. v2,v3: minor changes and references adde

Visible light enhances the antimicrobial effect of some essential oils
The photodisinfection is a topical, broad spectrum antimicrobial technology, targeting bacteria, virus, fungi, and protozoa effective for single cells as for biofilms. Natural molecules have been studied less than synthetic agents in the process but they are currently receiving great interest. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate for the first time if non-coherent blue and red light enhances the antimicrobial activity of some essential oils when standard strains for antibiotic or fungicide tests are enlightened in vitro. Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans collection strains were irradiated with monochromatic visible light from light emitting diodes in the presence of 5% and 0.5% eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), clove (Eugenia caryophyllata), and thyme (Thymus vulgaris) essential oils. Microbial levels were measured by plate count on culture media. In this preliminary report, the results differ according to the kind and concentration of antimicrobial oils, the wavelength of light, and the prokaryotic or eukaryotic microorganism. The results support the idea that mainly blue light enhances the innate antimicrobial activity of the essential oils, especially phenols, and could offer a very efficient and natural way to combat microorganisms in several industries and medical applications.Postprint (author's final draft
mayoría avaladas por bibliografía.SUMMARY -- In order to organize the round table of Jenui 2013,
which was held at University Jaime I, we interviewed
with our Computer Science students to collect their
opinions about the changes in the new curriculum.
These interviews allowed us to identify the following
areas for potential improvement which are presented
in this paper: the deliverable activities used for continuous
evaluation, the criteria to succeed in the the
final assessment, the work related to learning activities,
and the group work. In this paper we present
several proposals to progress in these areas, most of
them supported by the existing literature
How cyclical do cyclically-adjusted balances remain? An EU study
Observed budget balances are an imperfect indicator of the fiscal policy stance, because fluctuations in economic activity induce automatic changes in the balance, hence the use of cyclically-adjusted balances (CAB). However, this paper shows that CABs (as measured through one of the two methods currently used by the Commission) tend to be systematically overestimated during downturns and underestimated during expansions. The dominant source of this distortion arises from the filtering of revenues deemed to be cyclical, possibly signalling a problem with the computation of elasticities. The effect of the items which are assumed not to move with the cycle is non significant, but this overall result conceals offseting effects: public investment turns to be significantly procyclical and interest payments and transfers to firms are countercyclical.
This paper envisages the reconstruction and evolution of the physical environment of the Empurias archeological site and adjoining area. The combination of archeological and geomorphological data provides new insights in both fields. In the early ages of colonization the coast was situated more inland and showed an irregular morphology with cliffs and small islands. The lowereing of the sea and a change of land use caused later coast progradation and regularization with a predominance of sandy sediments. Eastwards progradation is linked to southwards sandy-dune transporte The moving off of different archeological sites in Empuries can be related to the above mentioned sandy-dune transport
