    Using HMM in Strategic Games

In this paper we describe an approach to resolve strategic games in which players can assume different types along the game. Our goal is to infer which type the opponent is adopting at each moment so that we can increase the player's odds. To achieve that we use Markov games combined with hidden Markov model. We discuss a hypothetical example of a tennis game whose solution can be applied to any game with similar characteristics.Comment: In Proceedings DCM 2013, arXiv:1403.768

Influence of sample width on the magnetoresistance and planar Hall effect of Co/Cu multilayers

We have studied Co/Cu multilayers to understand the effect of the sample’s width on their magnetoresistance (MR). By keeping constant both the length and the thickness and exploring the widths within the range of usual magnetic domain sizes in those nanostructures, we were able to observe effects on the MR curve, as well as infer linked changes in the magnetization process. Associating MR and Planar Hall Effect (PHE) measurements, coupled to an analysis of the MR plots’ symmetry, we were able to establish that, apart from the expected antiferromagnetic coupling, reducing the width forces the magnetization to stay aligned to the current channel, thus inducing more symmetric, closer to model Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR). Also, the sample edges might contribute by adding extra coupling through magnetostatic interaction. The added effects result in a counter-intuitive trend that goes from the near ideal wide samples through intermediate sizes with fairly abrupt changes in MR, and finally to the closer to bell-shaped ideal GMR at narrow widths

    Editorial: Pediatric thoracic surgery

In the last decades pediatric thoracic surgery significantly developed, extending minimally invasive approaches such as thoracoscopy to infancy and childhood. This progress is mainly due to the introduction of specific devices for the management of little spaces and little anatomical structures. Pediatric thoracoscopic surgery has increasingly become important in clinical practice and now it represents a well-established approach for infants and children and it is considered, by most thoracic surgeons, as the best choice for many procedures. Pediatric thoracoscopic surgery allows to reduce pain and morbidity and to avoid the longterm consequences of a thoracotomy in an infant or a small child

Thoracoscopic diagnosis and repair of central congenital diaphragmatic hernia in a neonate: A case report of a rare entity

Abstract Introduction Central congenital diaphragmatic hernia that involves a central tendon defect is a very rare form of diaphragmatic hernias. Experience in the thoracoscopic repair of congenital diaphragmatic hernia has expanded in recent years, but this expansion was mainly for the most common type; the posterolateral. We report a case of central congenital diaphragmatic hernia, which is supposed to be the case number seventeen of those reported in literature. And we report the first use of thoracoscopic repair in such rare entity. Case presentation We present a case report of a Bengali neonate who had a prenatal diagnosis of left congenital diaphragmatic hernia, which was supposed to be the usual posterolateral type. As we usually approach such cases by thoracoscopy, the patient had an intraoperative diagnosis of central congenital diaphragmatic hernia. The defect was amenable to a successful thoracoscopic repair. Conclusion The rare neonatal central congenital diaphragmatic hernia could present as a left sided herniation that clinically resembles the usual posterolateral congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Thoracoscopic approach offers a tremendous tool for diagnosis as well as the management of this kind of presentation of a central congenital diaphragmatic hernia

NOVAS FORMAS DE ORGANIZAÇÃO NO SETOR PÚBLICO E SUAS CONSEQUÊNCIAS PARA A EDUCAÇÃO À DISTÂNCIA: UMA REVISÃO SISTEMÁTICA DE LITERATURA

    Get PDF

Effects Of High Pressure Homogenization On The Activity, Stability, Kinetics And Three-dimensional Conformation Of A Glucose Oxidase Produced By Aspergillus Niger.

High pressure homogenization (HPH) is a non-thermal method, which has been employed to change the activity and stability of biotechnologically relevant enzymes. This work investigated how HPH affects the structural and functional characteristics of a glucose oxidase (GO) from Aspergillus niger. The enzyme was homogenized at 75 and 150 MPa and the effects were evaluated with respect to the enzyme activity, stability, kinetic parameters and molecular structure. The enzyme showed a pH-dependent response to the HPH treatment, with reduction or maintenance of activity at pH 4.5-6.0 and a remarkable activity increase (30-300%) at pH 6.5 in all tested temperatures (15, 50 and 75°C). The enzyme thermal tolerance was reduced due to HPH treatment and the storage for 24 h at high temperatures (50 and 75°C) also caused a reduction of activity. Interestingly, at lower temperatures (15°C) the activity levels were slightly higher than that observed for native enzyme or at least maintained. These effects of HPH treatment on function and stability of GO were further investigated by spectroscopic methods. Both fluorescence and circular dichroism revealed conformational changes in the molecular structure of the enzyme that might be associated with the distinct functional and stability behavior of GO.9e10341
