    A new genus and species of Delphacini (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Delphacidae) associated with hydrophytic plants in Argentina

    A new delphacid genus and species from Argentina, Lepidelphax pistiae Remes Lenicov, gen. et sp. nov.(Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Delphacidae: Delphacini), is described and illustrated, and biological, distribution and experimental host range data are provided. Males of the new genus are easily distinguished from all other Neotropical Delphacini by being pale cream to white in color with a distinctive pair of longitudinal stripes on the face and symmetrical dark brown to black spots on the thorax and abdomen; very slender, laterally compressed, with long legs, narrow and short vertex with a small sub-apical areola continued by a distinctively simple frontal median carina. It also has unique malegenital structures. Laboratory and field data indicate this species is a specialized herbivore that feeds and oviposits exclusively on Pistia stratiotes (Alismatales: Araceae), a floating macrophyte native to South America.     Nefrolitotomía percutánea en pacientes con trastornos de la coagulación: reporte de caso

    Objective To report a case of percutaneous nephrolithotomy in patients with protein C and S deficiency. Introduction Patients with protein C and S deficiency have a high risk of thromboembolic events reporting rates of 6% and 8.4%, respectively. Case Report A 43-year-old female patient with a history of protein C and S deficiency with chronic warfarin anticoagulation for deep venous thrombosis (DVT). CT scan with full right staghorn calculi. Enoxaparin was administered bridge therapy. She was taken to right percutaneous nephrolithotomy, access was through the lower calyx. Because it was not possible to access the calculus of the middle and upper calyx it was necessary to perform a second puncture in the upper calyx, leaving the patient free of calculus. Full anticoagulation was resumed at 12 hours postoperatively without associated bleeding. Discussion Patients with protein C and S deficits are at high risk for thromboembolic events. Kefer et al. conducted a study evaluating the efficacy of bridge therapy in patients on NLP, finding that warfarin anticoagulation can be discontinued 5 days earlier and restarted 5 days after the surgical procedure without the need for enoxaparin bridging therapy. Results The protein C and S deficiency corresponds to an entity, with a very low prevalence and conditions the requirement of oral anticoagulants indefinitely. Son formas esbeltas, comprimidas lateralmente, con patas largas; cabeza con el vertex estrecho y corto, una pequeña areola subapical continuada por una marcada carena mediana frontal simple. Complejo genital del macho con características distintivas. Datos de laboratorio y de campo indican que es una especie herbívora especialista que se alimenta y ovipone exclusivamente en Pistia stratiotes L. (Alismatales: Araceae), macrófita flotante nativa de América del Sur.     Patrones arquitectónicos para el confort térmico de una vivienda vernácula en Pucallpa, 2021

    La alta temperatura, fuertes lluvias, la pérdida paulatina de los patrones arquitectónicos, la búsqueda de diseños arquitectónicos modernos y el uso de materiales inadecuados, afectan el confort térmico del habitante en la ciudad de Pucallpa. El objetivo principal fue identificar los patrones arquitectónicos de una vivienda vernácula en Pucallpa orientado al confort térmico. La investigación es aplicada y el diseño es correlacional causal, se dio mediante un estudio no experimental descriptivo por lo que se aplicaron análisis documentales, observaciones de campo, encuestas y entrevistas, en la comunidad nativa de San Francisco. Como resultado se obtuvo que los elementos arquitectónicos que generan sombra son las verandas y alerones. Se concluye, que los patrones arquitectónicos que influyen en el confort térmico de las viviendas vernáculas en Pucallpa son los criterios funcionales y espaciales, elementos arquitectónicos que generan sombra, proporción de vanos o aberturas, así mismo se toman en cuenta otros criterios como; ubicación, contexto, clima, materiales constructivos, tipología, técnica y sistema constructivo. Además, se identificó que los materiales constructivos propios de la zona, son de fibra natural como las hojas de palmera y la madera que por sus propiedades de aislante térmico brindan confort térmico al habitante

    Descriptions of the immature stages of the planthopper Lepidelphax pistiae Remes Lenicov (Delphacidae), a specialist herbivore of Pistia stratiotes L.(Alismatales: Araceae) from Argentina, are provided. Newly emerged nymphs from eggs collected in the field, were reared in rearing chambers. Fifth nymphal instars may be easily recognized by the whitish coloration with a distinctive blackish antennal flagellum and ungues, and the relatively long frons and rostrum. Information is provided on nymphal behavior and the main features of the fifth nymph instar that distinguishes it from the two other delphacids that live and feed on plants from centraland northern Argentine wetlands.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

    Chitosan Induces Plant Hormones and Defenses in Tomato Root Exudates

    In this work, we use electrophysiological and metabolomic tools to determine the role of chitosan as plant defense elicitor in soil for preventing or manage root pests and diseases sustainably. Root exudates include a wide variety of molecules that plants and root microbiota use to communicate in the rhizosphere. Tomato plants were treated with chitosan. Root exudates from tomato plants were analyzed at 3, 10, 20, and 30 days after planting (dap). We found, using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and excitation emission matrix (EEM) fluorescence, that chitosan induces plant hormones, lipid signaling and defense compounds in tomato root exudates, including phenolics. High doses of chitosan induce membrane depolarization and affect membrane integrity. 1H-NMR showed the dynamic of exudation, detecting the largest number of signals in 20 dap root exudates. Root exudates from plants irrigated with chitosan inhibit ca. twofold growth kinetics of the tomato root parasitic fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici. and reduced ca. 1.5-fold egg hatching of the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne javanica.This work was supported by AGL 2015 66833-R Grant from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and H2020 MUSA 727624 European Project

    Results from a Search for Light-Mass Dark Matter with a P-type Point Contact Germanium Detector

    We report on several features present in the energy spectrum from an ultra low-noise germanium detector operated at 2,100 m.w.e. By implementing a new technique able to reject surface events, a number of cosmogenic peaks can be observed for the first time. We discuss several possible causes for an irreducible excess of bulk-like events below 3 keVee, including a dark matter candidate common to the DAMA/LIBRA annual modulation effect, the hint of a signal in CDMS, and phenomenological predictions.
