The safeguarding of heritage values in housing constitutes one of the major challenges within the preservationist sphere. In Argentina, the intermediate cities are appropriate fields of exploration to approach this type of challenge. Therefore, this article will investigate strategies towards the preservation of the modest heritage of two intermediate cities in the Province of Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata and Tandil, with focus on the users and their state of awareness. In a frame of coastal - mediterranean contrast, the conception of the investigation principally qualitative, with help of quantitative information, is worked. Since this approach emphasizes the results of an opinion poll, guidelines adapted for every case are proposed and a development feasible of being extrapolated to the diverse modest heritages of other cities, is exhibited.Fil: Sanchez, Lorena Marina. Whose voices are heard in the news? A study of sources in television coverage of the Scottish independence referendum

    Get PDF
This article explores the prominence of different types of sources in the coverage of the 2014 Scottish independence referendum on BBC Scotland’s regional news bulletin. It combines the most commonly used classifications of news sources in the literature and proposes an integrated taxonomy, in which official, unofficial, elite and non-elite sources may take on news-shaper or news-maker roles. This taxonomy is used to analyse the referendum coverage on BBC’s Reporting Scotland in the final month of the campaign. Findings suggest that, despite the presence of many types of sources, male-dominated political elites were the main focus in the news. Although the inclusion of some grassroots and citizen sources is encouraging, the coverage more broadly manifests a liberal democratic logic whereby the media represent the views of politicians and political organisations to the public, whose role is to make an informed choice between them, with comparatively limited opportunities to participate in the mediated political debate

Ajuts: Erasmus + Program. Project: Promoting students' successful trajectories in higher education institutions (face-to-face and online). Code: 2020-1-ES01-KA203-082842.The increase in university participation has led to greater complexity in terms of students' trajectories, with the option of changing degree course or higher education institution or, more recently, the mode of study (face-to-face and online learning). These transitions can be strategic moves that facilitate greater continuity in educational trajectories and increase equity within the education system. Online universities offer greater flexibility in terms of time and location, providing new opportunities for students with specific profiles to pursue higher education. This article aims to delve into the complex trajectories of change and to analyse whether there are differences in educational outcomes based on students' social backgrounds. Using registry data from the Catalan university system (n = 42,370), we identify and characterise the trajectories of change and analyse the effect of the interaction between them and social origin on educational outcomes. The results indicate that students from lower social backgrounds and those who also work are most likely to transition to virtual education. However, social background continues to have an effect on the probability of graduating, dropping out or pursuing further studies

De esta forma se presenta un desarrollo metodológico, teórico y de transferencia factible de ser apropiado a otros contextos y bienes domésticosThe valuation of houses that form a part of everyday landscape of the cities, constitutes an important step forward in the patrimonial development. By means of a historical urban-architectural and social boarding in an intermediate city of the province of Buenos Aires in Argentina, Tandil, strategies for the sustainable preservation of its most relevant modest patrimony are explored. From a conception of the nature of research primarily qualitative, it is exposed a methodological process that understands the crossing reports in situ with the analysis of mappings, bibliography and photographies, along with interviews and public-opinion polls focused on awareness-raising conciousness of the users. In this way, it is presented a development methodological, theoretical and of transferency, feasible of being adapted to other contexts and household goods.Fil: Sanchez, Lorena Marina. Fil: Sanchez, Lorena Marina. The larval distribution and abundance of several taxa of the carangids from the southem Gulf of Mexico are analyzed, based on data from four oceanographic cruises conducted between 1983 and 1984. The material was collected with a bongo net fished to maximum depths of 200 m. The species collected were Chloroscombrus chrysurus (54.2%), Decapterus punctatus (15.8%), Trachurus Iathami (11.8%), Selene setapinnis (6.1%), Selar crumenophthalmus (6.0), Caranx hipposllatus (0.9%), Caranx crysos (0.7%) and Selene sp. (0.3%). The higher frequency of occurrence and greater abundance of larvae of all species was found over the continental shelf, and in some cases, in the oceanic zone near the slope. Almost all the species were present year-round with highest larval densities in the warm months, except for T. Iathami which occurred in greatest abundance during winter and early spring

Stomach contents analyses showed that Leiostomus xanthurus (8.50-12.90 mm SL) had a wide trophic spectrum (15 food categories) with copepods and eggs of invertebrates as main components. In contrast, Micropogonias undulutus (6.65-12.20 mm SL) ingested only six food categories (copepods, eggs of invertebrates, crustacean nauplii, bamacle nauplii, amphipods and other crustaceans). There is an overlap of 73.2 to 83.0% in the diet of these two species. Bairdiella chrysoura (1.17-1.92 mm SL) fed primarily on juvenile pelecypods, crustacean nauplii, eggs of invertebrates, including gasteropods and copepods. Cynoscion nebulosus (1.50-2.42 mm SL) ingested juvenile pelecypods, copepods, crustacean nauplii, eggs of invertebrates and tintinnids, variability in overlap (47.4 to 79.5%) between these species was affected by size of the larvae

Microglial responses in the human Alzheimer’s disease frontal cortex

The continuing failure to develop an effective treatment for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) reveals the complexity for this pathology. Increasing evidence indicates that neuroinflammation involving particularly microglial cells contributes to AD pathogenesis. The actual view, based on the findings in APP based models, gives a cytotoxic/proinflammatory role to activated microglia. However, we have previously reported a limited activation and microglial degeneration in the hippocampus of AD patients in contrast with that observed in amyloidogenic models. Here, we evaluated the microglial response in a different region of AD brains, the frontal cortex. Post mortem tissue from controls (Braak 0-II) and AD patients (Braak V-VI) including familial cases, were obtained from Spain Neurological Tissue Banks. Cellular (immunohistochemistry and image analysis) and molecular (qPCR and western blots) approaches were performed. Frontal cortex of AD patients (Braak V-VI) showed strong microglial activation similar to that observed in amyloidogenic mice. These strongly activated microglial cells, predominantly located surrounding amyloid plaques, could drive the AD pathology and, in consequence, could be implicated in the pathology progression. Furthermore, different microglial responses were observed between sporadic and familial AD cases. These findings in the frontal cortex were highly in contrast to the attenuated activation and degenerative morphology displayed by microglial cells in the hippocampus of AD patients. Regional differences in the microglial response suggest different functional states of microglial cells in a region-specific manner. All together, these data provide a better understanding of the immunological mechanisms underlying AD progression and uncover new potential therapeutic targets to fight this devastating neurodegenerative disease.Universidad de Málaga.
