Para tal descripción, fueron tenidas en cuenta las temáticas abordadas por los artículos publicados en la revista, los autores según su origen y filiación institucional, y las características de difusión de la publicación en cuanto a diversidad idiomática y gratuidad de acceso a sus artículos.Este artigo tem como objetivo fazer uma revisão descritiva das características mais relevantes da Revista Electrónica de Psicología Política (Argentina), ao longo de seus 10 anos de publicação online.     A synergic nanoantioxidant based on covalently modified halloysite-trolox nanotubes with intra-lumen loaded quercetin

    We describe the preparation and properties of the first example of a synergic nanoantioxidant, obtained by different functionalizations of the external surface and the inner lumen of halloysite nanotubes (HNTs). Trolox, a mimic of natural α-tocopherol, was selectively grafted on the HNT external surface; while quercetin, a natural polyphenolic antioxidant, was loaded into the inner lumen to afford a bi-functional nanoantioxidant, HNT-Trolox/Que, which was investigated for its reactivity with transient peroxyl radicals and a persistent 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH•) radical in comparison with the corresponding mono-functional analogues HNT-Trolox and HNT/Que. Both HNT-Trolox and HNT/Que showed good antioxidant performance in the inhibited autoxidation of organic substrates; however HNT-Trolox/Que protection by reaction with peroxyl radicals was 35% higher in acetonitrile and 65% in chlorobenzene, as compared to the expected performance based on the sum of contributions of NHT-Trolox and NHT/Que. Similar enhancement was observed also in the trapping of DPPH• radicals. Synergism between the distinct antioxidant functions was based on the rapid reaction of externally exposed Trolox (rate constant with peroxyl radicals was 1.1 × 106 M-1 s-1 and 9 × 104 M-1 s-1 respectively in chlorobenzene and acetonitrile, at 30 °C), followed by its regeneration by quercetin released from the HNT lumen.     A survey of ovary-, testis-, and soma-biased gene expression in Drosophila melanogaster adults

    BACKGROUND: Sexual dimorphism results in the formation of two types of individuals with specialized reproductive roles and is most evident in the germ cells and gonads. RESULTS: We have undertaken a global analysis of transcription between the sexes using a 31,464 element FlyGEM microarray to determine what fraction of the genome shows sex-biased expression, what tissues express these genes, the predicted functions of these genes, and where these genes map onto the genome. Females and males (both with and without gonads), dissected testis and ovary, females and males with genetically ablated germlines, and sex-transformed flies were sampled. CONCLUSIONS: Using any of a number of criteria, we find extensive sex-biased expression in adults. The majority of cases of sex differential gene expression are attributable to the germ cells. There is also a large class of genes with soma-biased expression. There is little germline-biased expression indicating that nearly all genes with germline expression also show sex-bias. Monte Carlo simulations show that some genes with sex-biased expression are non-randomly distributed in the genome

    Glyphosate vulnerability explains changes in root-symbionts propagules viability in Pampean grasslands

    Research into the impact of agricultural practices on plant symbionts is essential for understanding the factors that modulate plant community productivity and diversity. Although glyphosate is used worldwide as an herbicide, its effects on root symbionts under natural conditions have not been sufficiently studied. We performed a field experiment to evaluate the influence of glyphosate, used for promoting winter forage production, on the viability of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and rhizobium propagules and other ecosystem traits in native grasslands. The number of viable propagules was strongly reduced with a single application at the recommended dose. Spore viability reduction was dependent on AMF species. Furthermore, changes in plant community composition and soil salinity were detected, which may eventually influence these symbionts in the future. Considering the low nutrient availability and high root-symbiont dependency of several species with forage value, repeated applications might lead to a loss in the grassland diversity and productivity, decreasing livestock production. Application of sublethal doses of this herbicide could avoid these damages, although success in increasing winter forage production would be less. Our results are relevant for understanding the effects of glyphosate on non-target species and designing sustainable land management systems.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

    Optical properties of Cu2ZnSnSe4 thin films and identification of secondary phases by spectroscopic ellipsometry

    We apply spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) to identify secondary phases in Cu2ZnSnSe4 (CZTSe) absorbers and to investigate the optical properties of CZTSe. A detailed optical model is used to extract the optical parameters, such as refractive index and extinction coefficient in order to extrapolate the band gap values of CZTSe samples, and to obtain information about the presence of secondary phases at the front and back sides of the samples. We show that SE can be used as a non-destructive method for detection of the secondary phases ZnSe and MoSe2 and to extrapolate the band gap values of CZTSe phase. (C) 2017 Optical Society of Americ

    Nell'ampio scenario dei nanomateriali, i sistemi nanotubolari godono di un consolidato e crescente interesse sia nell'ambito scientifico che industriale. Fra la miriade di sistemi tubolari, recentemente i nanotubi allosite (HNT) hanno attirato l’attenzione della comunità scientifica.1 Grazie alla presenza di una cavità vuota, gli HNT trovano, principalmente, applicazione come nanocontainer per il rilascio controllato di composti chimici, in particolare, farmaci. L’introduzione di modificazioni covalenti su entrambe le superfici permette di modulare le proprietà dell’allosite, aumentando così i suoi campi di applicazione. In questa comunicazione verranno presentati recenti risultati ottenuti mediante la funzionalizzazione covalente della superficie esterna degli HNT con particolari molecole target e la relativa introduzione, nella cavità, di molecole con importanti proprietà biologiche per applicazioni nel campo del drug delivery

    Salivary Gland Ultrasonography in Sjögren’s Syndrome: A European Multicenter Reliability Exercise for the HarmonicSS Project

    Objectives: Salivary gland ultrasonography (SGUS) is increasingly applied for the management of primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). This study aims to: (i) compare the reliability between two SGUS scores; (ii) test the reliability among sonographers with different levels of experience. Methods: In the reliability exercise, two four-grade semi-quantitative SGUS scoring systems, namely De Vita et al. and OMERACT, were tested. The sonographers involved in work-package 7 of the HarmonicSS project from nine countries in Europe were invited to participate. Different levels of sonographers were identified on the basis of their SGUS experience and of the knowledge of the tested scores. A dedicated atlas was used as support for SGUS scoring. Results: Twenty sonographers participated in the two rounds of the reliability exercise. The intra-rater reliability for both scores was almost perfect, with a Light's kappa of 0.86 for the De Vita et al. score and 0.87 for the OMERACT score. The inter-rater reliability for the De Vita et al. and the OMERACT score was substantial with Light's Kappa of 0.75 and 0.77, respectively. Furthermore, no significant difference was noticed among sonographers with different levels of experience. Conclusion: The two tested SGUS scores are reliable for the evaluation of major salivary glands in pSS, and even less-expert sonographers could be reliable if adequately instructed.publishedVersio

    COVID-19 Infection in Children and Infants: Current Status on Therapies and Vaccines

    Since the beginning in December 2019, the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak appeared to affect mostly the adult population, sparing the vast majority of children who only showed mild symptoms. The purpose of this investigation is to assess the status on the mechanisms that give children and infants this variation in epidemiology compared to the adult population and its impact on therapies and vaccines that are aimed towards them. A literature review, including in vitro studies, reviews, published guidelines and clinical trials was performed. Clinical trials concerned topics that allowed a descriptive synthesis to be produced. Four underlying mechanisms were found that may play a key role in providing COVID-19 protection in babies. No guidelines are available yet for therapy due to insufficient data; support therapy remains the most used. Only two vaccines are approved by the World Health Organization to be used in children from 12 years of age, and there are currently no efficacy or safety data for children below the age of 12 years. The COVID-19 clinical frame infection is milder in children and adolescents. This section of the population can act as vectors and reservoirs and play a key role in the transmission of the infection; therefore, vaccines are paramount. More evidence is required to guide safely the vaccination campaign
