"Infimae personae" en los "Epigramas" de Marcial : cuestiones literarias y prosopográficas

Programa de Doctorado en Raíces Culturales de Europa: Textos y LenguasEste estudio sobre la obra del poeta Marco Valerio Marcial (s. I d.C.), máximo representante de la literatura epigramática, se centra en un sector de población específico que, junto a otros personajes de renombre eminentemente históricos como los Césares, los ricos patronos de la Roma de edad flavia o los poderosos secretarios imperiales, halla cabida en sus Epigramas: las que él mismo llamara infimae personae, gentes de humilde condición social identificables por rasgos que señalan una pobreza extrema, por el desempeño de oficios que gozaban de escaso o ningún prestigio (desde la prostitución hasta las artes escénicas o gladiatorias), por su origen extranjero o por haber quedado marcados por el hierro al rojo de la esclavitud. Se ensaya una doble aproximación: la prosopográfica, que pretende la identificación de los personajes y tipos literarios más allá de su cualidad ficticia o histórica (y da lugar a un nutrido repertorio onomástico compuesto por más de 200 fichas), y la literaria, que considera a tales individuos como parte -y parte fundamental- del logrado universo marcialesco. A este particular se dedican los capítulos introductorios (caps. 1-5). Con ello se trata, si no de resolver, sí de superar en cierto modo la pugna entre las dos principales corrientes interpretativas de los Epigramas: aquella que -encabezada por el gran filólogo alemán Ludwig Friedländer (s. XIX)- propone una lectura en clave arqueológica o historicista, tomando los versos de Marcial como mero trasunto poético de la realidad cotidiana que en ellos se vislumbra, frente a la revisión que se efectúa en las últimas décadas, y que pone en valor las virtudes estéticas de la obra del poeta de Bílbilis, más allá de su carácter digamos convencional y figurativo. La investigación de las infimae personae revela, según la lectura que proponen estas páginas, aspectos cruciales de la poética de Marcial: la poderosa creatividad onomástica que despliega el poeta; las sutilezas metaliterarias que se desprenden de su poética de la alusión y que muestran su honda conciencia de las posibilidades de un género que, incorporada a la tradición escóptica o satírica, juega sabiamente con la identidad (de los personajes y hasta del poeta mismo) y la indistinción, la realidad palpitante y la apariencia, en un manierismo sin precedentes; la posición ética asumida por el autor en las durísimas condiciones creativas de la dictadura, posición articulada explícitamente en los principios parcere personis y vita proba, que afirma la neta distinción de realidad y arte, vida y obra, distinción que, por otra parte, el poeta desdibuja en su afán contradictorio; la tensión, en definitiva, entre las convenciones sociales y literarias y las convicciones estéticas del poeta. Sin despreciar la cualidad especular de los Epigramas (los casos de hidalguía, de súbita ruina o de enriquecimiento repentino que abundan en sus páginas son, por ejemplo, una fuente indispensable para la comprensión de la movilidad social en Roma), lo que descubre su lectura profunda es una visión lúcida y singular, la agudísima interpretación de un mundo extraño y lejano que, en virtud del arte depuradísimo de Marcial, se nos acerca.Universidad Pablo de Olavide. Ladon, Laurus... e la nave Va. Mart. 10.85-86, en contexto

La figura de Ladón en Marcial (10.85) cobra relieve en virtud de las circunstancias del poeta y las peripecias editoriales del libro décimo, más aún al considerar su relación con Lauro (10.86). A raíz de la equivalencia de laurus y δάφνη, se descubre un haz de correspondencias mitológicas y textuales que dotan al díptico de una entidad inadvertida. Sus nombres vinculan a los protagonistas con figuras como el dios-río Ladón y su hija - en algunas versiones - Dafne, Evandro - nieto de Ladón - y sus huéspedes Heracles y Eneas. Con el héroe vencedor del dragón homónimo se relaciona el ritual de los argei, figuras antropomorfas arrojadas al Tíber que cabe comparar con el Lauro reducido a pelele.The character of Ladon (Mart. 10.85) stands out in light of the poet’s circumstances and the publishing vicissitudes of the tenth book of Epigrams. This significance is even greater when we consider the relationship of Ladon with Lauro (10.86). The synonymy of Lat. laurus and Gr. δάφνη reveals a set of mythological and intertextual correspondences that confers on this diptych an unnoticed prominence. Proper names connect the two characters to the river-god Ladon and his -according to some versions- daughter Daphne, to Evander -Ladon’s grandson- and his hosts Herakles and Aeneas. Molecular identification of a cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase-producinmicroorganism and phylogenetic assessment of enzymatic activities

Cyclodextrin glycosyltransferases (CGTases) are important enzymes in the biotechnology field because they catalyze starch conversion into cyclodextrins and linear oligosaccharides, which are used in food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The CGTases are classified according to their product specificity in α-, β-, α/β-and γ-CGTases. As molecular markers are the preferred tool for bacterial identification, we employed six molecular markers (16S rRNA, dnaK, gyrB, recA, rpoB and tufA) to test the identification of a CGTase-producing bacterial strain (DF 9R) in a phylogenetic context. In addition, we assessed the phylogenetic relationship of CGTases along bacterial evolution. The results obtained here allowed us to identify the strain DF 9R as Paenibacillus barengoltzii, and to unveil a complex origin for CGTase types during archaeal and bacterial evolution. Graphene oxide degradation by a white-rot fungus occurs in spite of lignin peroxidase inhibition

This study investigated the degradation of graphene oxide (GO) by the white-rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium. Axenic fungal suspensions were inoculated in malt extract glucose medium enriched with various concentrations of GO and allowed to grow for several months. Biomass, pH, H2O2 content and activity of laccase (Lac) and lignin peroxidase (LiP) in the culture media were monitored, along with the physicochemical changes of GO over time followed by TEM, Raman, XPS and TGA. Lower concentrations of GO exhibited a stronger stimulating effect on P. chrysosporium growth and the production of Lac and H2O2 compared to higher concentrations, probably due to an excessive parallel increase in GO degradation by-products. The fungus significantly altered the structure of GO, with increase in the Raman D band, although GO neutralized LiP activity, possibly by unspecific adsorption. The activity of isolated LiP, but not of Lac, was suppressed in the presence of GO. Moreover, Lac caused modifications in the GO lattice as evidenced by a significant increase in the ratio between the intensity of the D and G bands of the Raman spectra. This enzyme emerges as a key player in the biodegradation of GRMs within terrestrial ecosystems, as its release extends beyond fungi to several other microorganisms

El perfil del docente investigador: hacia sus dimensiones y su fortalecimiento

The study has been carried out with the double objective: to determine the dimensions of the profile of the research teacher and to select the procedures to strengthen the referred profile. The profile of the research professor has become a vast and complex universe, controversial, even adverse in several aspects, in which universe many questions are posed, leaving no objective, clear, precise, and convincing answers. In this context, the profile of the research teacher has been studied: its dimensions and procedures to strengthen them. It is concluded that the profile of the research teacher presents the following dimensions: pedagogical, professional academic, emotional intelligence, ethics, publication, permanence and visibility. In addition, it is strengthened through the guidance of the expert investigator, state legislation, investigative training, and attendance at research events.Se ha realizado el estudio con el doble objetivo: determinar las dimensiones del perfil del docente investigador y seleccionar los procedimientos para fortalecer el perfil referido. El perfil del docente investigador se ha constituido en un universo total vasto y complejo, polémico, incluso adverso en varios aspectos, en cuyo universo se plantean muchas preguntas quedando sin respuestas objetivas, clara, precisas, convincentes. En este contexto, se ha trabajado el perfil del docente investigador: sus dimensiones y procedimientos para fortalecerlos. Se concluye que el perfil del docente investigador presenta las siguientes dimensiones: pedagógica, académico profesional, inteligencia emocional, ético, publicación, permanencia y visibilidad. Además, se fortalece mediante la orientación del investigador experto, la legislación de los estados, la formación investigativa, la asistencia a eventos de investigación

Short-term prognosis of polypharmacy in elderly patients treated in emergency departments: results from the EDEN project

Background: Polypharmacy is a growing phenomenon among elderly individuals. However, there is little information about the frequency of polypharmacy among the elderly population treated in emergency departments (EDs) and its prognostic effect. This study aims to determine the prevalence and short-term prognostic effect of polypharmacy in elderly patients treated in EDs. Methods: A retrospective analysis of the Emergency Department Elderly in Needs (EDEN) project's cohort was performed. This registry included all elderly patients who attended 52 Spanish EDs for any condition. Mild and severe polypharmacy was defined as the use of 5-9 drugs and >10 drugs, respectively. The assessed outcomes were ED revisits, hospital readmissions, and mortality 30 days after discharge. Crude and adjusted logistic regression analyses, including the patient's comorbidities, were performed. Results: A total of 25,557 patients were evaluated [mean age: 78 (IQR: 71-84) years]; 10,534 (41.2%) and 5678 (22.2%) patients presented with mild and severe polypharmacy, respectively. In the adjusted analysis, mild polypharmacy and severe polypharmacy were associated with an increase in ED revisits [odds ratio (OR) 1.13 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.04-1.23) and 1.38 (95% CI: 1.24-1.51)] and hospital readmissions [OR 1.18 (95% CI: 1.04-1.35) and 1.36 (95% CI: 1.16-1.60)], respectively, compared to non-polypharmacy. Mild and severe polypharmacy were not associated with increased 30-day mortality [OR 1.05 (95% CI: 0.89-2.26) and OR 0.89 (95% CI: 0.72-1.12)], respectively. Conclusion: Polypharmacy was common among the elderly treated in EDs and associated with increased risks of ED revisits and hospital readmissions 10 drugs. In these patients comorbidities were associated with an increase in the number of drugs. In the patients with severe polypharmacy (>10 drugs), diuretics were the most frequently drugs prescribed, followed by antihypertensives and statins. The results obtained indicate that polypharmacy is a frequent phenomenon among the elderly population treated in Emergency departments, being antihypertensives the most frequently used drugs in this population. Those patients who takes >10 drugs have a higher risk of new visits to the emergency room and hospital readmissions in short term period

Measurement of the cosmic ray spectrum above 4×10184{\times}10^{18} eV using inclined events detected with the Pierre Auger Observatory

A measurement of the cosmic-ray spectrum for energies exceeding $4{\times}10^{18}$ eV is presented, which is based on the analysis of showers with zenith angles greater than $60^{\circ}$ detected with the Pierre Auger Observatory between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2013. The measured spectrum confirms a flux suppression at the highest energies. Above $5.3{\times}10^{18}$ eV, the "ankle", the flux can be described by a power law $E^{-\gamma}$ with index $\gamma=2.70 \pm 0.02 \,\text{(stat)} \pm 0.1\,\text{(sys)}$ followed by a smooth suppression region. For the energy ($E_\text{s}$) at which the spectral flux has fallen to one-half of its extrapolated value in the absence of suppression, we find $E_\text{s}=(5.12\pm0.25\,\text{(stat)}^{+1.0}_{-1.2}\,\text{(sys)}){\times}10^{19}$ eV.Comment: Replaced with published version.
