Despite the prevalence of family, friend, and neighbor (FFN) child care (NSECE, 2015), relatively little is known about the characteristics of this type of care, quality of care, and the features of effective quality improvement initiatives for FFN care providers. In general, the early childhood field has remained relatively silent about FFN child care in policy and research discourses surrounding child well-being and quality initiatives (Shivers, 2012; Whitebook et al., 2004). The overall goal of the analyses described in this brief, Brief #4 in a series of four, was to explore and analyze FFN providers’ awareness and use of community resources. This sample was obtained by collecting data from providers involved in a 14-week training-support group intervention known as the Arizona Kith and Kin Project. The providers in the Arizona Kith and Kin Project represent a critical population of providers who are serving young children in Arizona

EBW technology applied on the ICRF antenna component

Central conductor is one of the key components of ion cyclotron ranges of heating antenna, which is usually formed by welding due to the complex structures. High level of welding seam quality and small deformation are very important to central conductor. Electron beam welding (EBW) is suggested as the central conductor welding. To meet EBW requirements and reduce the risk, complex and high level of the accuracy welding fixture have been designed for central conductor EBW. Some samples were manufactured to do test and examination for EBW qualification before central conductor welding. Based on the welding parameters, thermal analysis using finite element method for the welding seam have been carried out. One mockup of central conductor for EBW has been made for proving welding parameters. In addition, some postwelding process were employed after one central conductor EBW. Results of examination and inspection of one central conductor using EBW are presented in this paper

Three-dimensional view of ultrafast dynamics in photoexcited bacteriorhodopsin

Bacteriorhodopsin (bR) is a light-driven proton pump. The primary photochemical event upon light absorption is isomerization of the retinal chromophore. Here we used time-resolved crystallography at an X-ray free-electron laser to follow the structural changes in multiphoton-excited bR from 250 femtoseconds to 10 picoseconds. Quantum chemistry and ultrafast spectroscopy were used to identify a sequential two-photon absorption process, leading to excitation of a tryptophan residue flanking the retinal chromophore, as a first manifestation of multiphoton effects. We resolve distinct stages in the structural dynamics of the all-trans retinal in photoexcited bR to a highly twisted 13-cis conformation. Other active site sub-picosecond rearrangements include correlated vibrational motions of the electronically excited retinal chromophore, the surrounding amino acids and water molecules as well as their hydrogen bonding network. These results show that this extended photo-active network forms an electronically and vibrationally coupled system in bR, and most likely in all retinal proteins

    Practical and precise projector-camera calibration

International audienceProjectors are important display devices for large scale augmented reality applications. However, precisely calibrating projectors with large focus distances implies a trade-off between practicality and accuracy. People either need a huge calibration board or a precise 3D model [12]. In this paper, we present a practical projector-camera calibration method to solve this problem. The user only needs a small calibration board to calibrate the system regardless of the focus distance of the projector. Results show that the root-mean-squared re-projection error (RMSE) for a 450cm projection distance is only about 4mm, even though it is calibrated using a small B4 (250 Ă— 353mm) calibration board

Local Geometric Consensus: A General Purpose Point Pattern-Based Tracking Algorithm

Proceedings of ACM ISMAR 2015, Fukuoka, JapanInternational audienceWe present a method which can quickly and robustly match 2D and 3D point patterns based on their sole spatial distribution , but it can also handle other cues if available. This method can be easily adapted to many transformations such as similarity transformations in 2D/3D, and affine and perspective transformations in 2D. It is based on local geometric consensus among several local matchings and a refinement scheme. We provide two implementations of this general scheme, one for the 2D homography case (which can be used for marker or image tracking) and one for the 3D similarity case. We demonstrate the robustness and speed performance of our proposal on both synthetic and real images and show that our method can be used to augment any (textured/textureless) planar objects but also 3D objects
