Fluvial dynamics and watermills location in Basilicata (Southern Italy)
Watermills (grain mills, waulk mills, olive mills, sawmills and
threshing machines) operated in the Basilicata Region from the Roman
Period until the early decades of the twentieth century, representing an
important feature of waterways that is today almost totally forgotten. Using
documentary sources, ancient maps and field survey it is possible to
catalogue and identify the location of these ancient hydraulic structures.
Watermills were usually placed far enough away from the river to avoid
inundation during floods, and near natural knickpoints or artificial steps
in the river long profile that were created by mill engineers. Mill construction
often had significant impacts on a rivers morphology, because
it was necessary to divert the river discharge towards the mill wheel, to
drive the grain-grinding mechanism. Watermill typological variations
have been examined in relation to variations in river pattern to assess
the ways in which the hydrographic and hydrological settings of the Basilicata
Region have affected mill siting and operation. Most Basilicata
watermills were built with a horizontal water-wheel and a tower. The
characteristics of the tower and the associated hydraulic structures varied
according to the environmental setting. Finally, mill positions define
also the locations on the river system that have already been used
to exploit hydraulic power and thus could be useful for future use in the
micro-hydroelectric secto
Italian Sign Language (LIS) education is going through a profound transformation in Italy. Since its recognition, in 2021, as the natural language of the Deaf minority, and the definition of LIS interpreters as the designated professionals to mediate communication needs involving signers in all public settings, the debate has increased in the attempt to determine the content and purpose(s) of the interpreters' training (in Higher Education?) courses. While formal education in sign language (SL) is becoming increasingly important for interpreters' training, and universities are opening experimental courses for them, the linguistic education of deaf children and the vocational training of Deaf adults as SL teachers are gaining new attention. In light of these changes, I discuss the state of the art of general education for the deaf in Italy, glancing at the steps that led to LIS recognition, and the training of bimodal bilingual (deaf) children in public education. Past choices influence the present. The topic will be covered from a historical and interdisciplinary perspective, following the evolution in the social as well as political decisions that influenced deaf education.O ensino da LÃngua de Sinais Italiana (LIS) está passando por uma profunda transformação na Itália.

MAGE Proteins and the Regulation of E2F Pathway
Melanoma Antigens Genes (MAGE) constitutes a mutagenic family divided in two subfamilies, MAGE-I and MAGE-II, according to its tissue pattern expression. While MAGE-I in adult humans are only expressed in testis and tumors tissues, those belonging to MAGE-II subfamily are ubiquitously expressed. During the last decade, functional characterization of MAGE proteins points to a role in transcription regulation. E2F1 is a member of the E2F family and is among the transcription factors reported to be modulated by MAGE proteins. In this article we will focus on reported cases of E2F1 modulation by members of MAGE-I and MAGE-II subfamilies and the resulting biological consequences observed in normal and tumor cells.Fil: Ladelfa, Maria Fatima.
The common EU approach to personal data and cybersecurity regulation
Several sector-specific studies on EU data protection and cybersecurity frameworks can be found in the literature, but their differing legal domains has hindered the development of a common analysis of the different sets of provisions from a business perspective. This article sets out to bridge this gap, providing a systematic review and a cross-cutting operational analysis of the main legal instruments that constitute the common European approach to personal data and cybersecurity regulation for the business sector. We aim to demonstrate the existence of a core of common principles and procedural approaches referring to specific cybersecurity and data security technologies. Analysis reveals a coordinated regulatory model based on five pillars: risk-based approach, by-design approach, reporting obligations, resilience and certification schemes. We also highlight the relationship between the main directives and regulations
From a feminist socio-juridical approach, in this research work I investigate the judicial process T.S. assuming that it constitutes an institutionalized site of disputes over the discursive configuration of abortion. T.S. involved Silvia, a woman with a pregnancy diagnosis of an anencephalic fetus who, faced with the refusal of the medical professionals to perform the interruption of the pregnancy in the health system and the request for a court order, initiated a judicial process of amparo in the courts of the city of Buenos Aires with the sponsorship of the lawyers of the foundation Unos con Otros in the year 2000. The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation ruled the judicial process T.S. in the year 2001. From the discourse analysis of the documents of the judicial process and of in-depth interviews I study how abortion was discursively configured in this judicial process.
