O envelhecimento da população portuguesa é hoje um fenómeno conhecido, discutido e sobre o qual se têm desenvolvido estudos sobre a sua génese, impactos socioeconómicos e necessidade de adequar as medidas de proteção social. Apesar de nos últimos anos terem aumentado os estudos de base regional, a verdade é que continua a ser necessário perceber os impactos nos territórios, já que o envelhecimento populacional revelou as fragilidades que existem na organização da sociedade e as dificuldades em adaptar as estruturas sociais, económicas e políticas a este novo quadro. The quality of demographic data in 1804 comparing Paraíba do Norte (Brazil), Angola and Goa

O estudo da população do Império Português conta com um vasto corpus de dados estatísticos, desde meados do século xviii. No entanto, estas fontes revelam uma grande diversidade de conteúdos, devido à organização de dados e a realidades sociais diferentes. Esta circunstância pressupõe a necessidade de se proceder a uma análise muito cuidadosa da qualidade das fontes, antes de identificar e reconstruir os principais indicadores emográficos da população colonial. É nosso objetivo proceder, de forma exploratória, a uma crítica interna das fontes e analisar, sempre que possível, a qualidade dos dados através de métodos testados, em mapas de 1804 de Goa, Angola e Paraíba do Norte (Brasil).The study of the Portuguese empire population has a vast corpus of statistical data since middle eighteenth century. However, these sources reveal a great diversity in contents, due to the data organization and different social realities. This circumstance presupposes the need to proceed to a very careful analysis of sources quality, before identifying and rebuild the main demographic indicators of the colonial population. Demographic and Health Changes in Portugal (1900-2013)

These paper seeks to improve our knowledge of Portuguese epidemiological and demographic change through the twentieth century up until nowadays. Demographic Transition, as defined by Warren Thompson (1929), occurred in Portugal, much later than in other developed countries. Economic, Political, cultural, religious and social causes delayed the beginning of decline of both mortality and fertility. Our aim is to develop the Demographic change with a focus in mortality. In the beginning of the twentieth century, short and instable life cycle marked population day-to-day and threw infant and general mortality to highest levels and life expectancy to one of the Europeans shortest one. Epidemiological transition occurred and today, Portugal has one of the lowest infant mortality and life expectancy has more than doubled. A methodological approach to evaluate elderly-robot interactions

The relevance in the study of interaction between elderly and robots may depend on the choice of activities that robots can be developed to perform and the assessment of their impact and importance for older people. This research requires coordinated research between computer engineers and specialists in the humanities and social sciences. Being a recent research area, it is particularly relevant to carefully select the behavioural variables to be analyzed, the methodology adopted and the instruments that allow for a rigorous evaluation. Based on these assumptions, the present study aims to develop Innovative Initiatives for the Promotion of Active Aging in the EUROACE Region. The authors propose an appropriate methodology and instruments to evaluate the impact of the human-robot interaction in the promotion of a more active aging in a group of elderly in a nursing home. The analyzed variables focus on the involvement of the elderly in the activities, their capacity for initiative and to establish social interactions, indicators of well-being and a proactive attitude. The methodology of the study is mixed (qualitative and quantitative), organized as an exploratory case study. Data collection is based on naturalistic observation but variables are quantitatively assessed in a pre/post-test design. The research design identified the narratives of the elderly and the staff of the institution regarding the needs and interests of each elderly person, classified the participants according to the levels of prevailing social interactions, involvement and initiative in activities, considered important variables for an active ageing and, in this sense, demonstrated its adequacy to be used to evaluate the results of the intervention using social assistive robots.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Molecular diagnosis of haemophilia A: four novel variants identified in five patients

Aims/Context: Haemophilia A (HMA) is an X-linked bleeding disorder caused by reduced levels of the coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) due to alterations in the F8 gene. Decreased levels of FVIII activity leads to a loss of clotting activity and to bleeding (predominantly into joins, muscles and inner organs). The severity of HMA ranges from mild (5-30% activity) to moderate (2-5% activity) to severe (<1% activity). During the last five years, we have found four novel variants identified in five index patients with no family history of HMA. Three frameshift variants were detected in patients presenting severe HMA and one missense variant was identified in two unrelated patients with a mild phenotype. Methods: Analysis of the F8 gene was performed in five index patients using PCR followed by Sanger sequencing, after F8 IVS22 and IVS1 inversions being excluded in severe HMA cases. Bioinformatics analysis was performed with several pathogenicity prediction tools (Alamut Visual, VarSome, VEP and Human Splicing Finder). Results and Conclusions: In the three patients with severe HMA, three different novel F8 variants were identified: c.1060_1061delCT, p.(Leu354Thrfs*5), c.4804delC, p.(Gln602Lysfs*19) and c.3561dupT, p.(Pro1188Serfs*10). All these variants create a frameshift, leading to a premature termination codon and presumably resulting in non-functional truncated proteins, confirming the patient’s phenotypes. The novel F8 missense variant c.5836G>T, p.(Asp1946Tyr) was identified in two unrelated patients, both with mild HMA. The Asp1946 is a highly conserved amino acid in the FVIII protein. Additionally, physicochemical properties between Asp and Tyr are significantly different, and in silico analysis classified it as pathogenic due to the amino acid substitution. Normal mRNA splicing process can also be disturbed due to the creation of a new donor splice site. RNA studies and other functional assays are essential in order to establish this variant clinical significance. Identification of novel pathogenic F8 variants in HMA patients allows genotype-phenotype correlations, appropriate genetic counseling and new knowledge about the molecular bases of this pathology.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Este artigo surge na sequência de um estudo de caso com caráter etnográfico efetuado numa sala de 1.º Ciclo de Ensino Básico (1.º CEB). O professor da turma em estudo é um convicto utilizador das TIC com os seus alunos porque acredita na melhoria das suas aprendizagens quando alia uma metodologia orientada para projetos à utilização das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (TIC). Um dos projetos desenvolvidos ao longo do ano letivo foi um livro coletivo com participação de todos os alunos e onde as TIC desempenharam papéis relevantes e diversificados em todo o processo de trabalho. In praise of boredom and the legacy of a tradition in contemporaneity : Mu, Ma and Yasujiro Ozu

In Schrader’s opinion, this ability to construct – to build a relationship between the film and the spectator – using a supposed “counter-action” is a tried and trusted part of the work of several filmmakers. The Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu is a member of this small group. The architect Kengo Kuma, also Japanese, alluded later to his own profession, to the advantages of treating boredom as a process of the rooting of an identity and of us returning that identity in an inventive system of growth. Whilst Kuma seeks a path towards redemption through the conscientization of boredom, Schrader sees the transcendental as a cinematographic style that precisely uses the boring or every day as a means of engaging the spectator. This chapter, using examples of the cinema of Ozu and concepts that are inherent to Japanese traditional culture, such as mu (無) and ma (間), aims to be a short reflection on a particular outlook inherent in architecture and in film-making, where boredom would seem to be an operational “tool” that can provide a path to a future

Legal Protection of the Portuguese Way of St James: Background and Implementation

Este artículo forma parte del monográfico Turismo, peregrinación y comunidades, coordinado por Carlos Pazos-Justo, Beatriz Busto y Susana Sotelo[Resumo] Este texto tem como ponto de partida a análise de documentos jurídicos que estiveram na base da aprovação pelo Governo de Portugal do Decreto-Lei nº 51/2019, de 17 de abril, - e do próprio- cujo âmbito é definir o “itinerário do Caminho de Santiago”, tendo por objeto a “salvaguardar, valorização e promoção do Caminho de Santiago” em território português. Trata-se do primeiro diploma legal cujo corpo normativo visa regular o procedimento de “certificação” com vista ao reconhecimento do interesse público dos itinerários e a consequente utilização da Marca “Caminho de Santiago Certificado”. Nesta análise procura-se aferir de que modo a “repartição de responsabilidades com os cidadãos e com outros órgãos da administração pública de forma que, em matéria de património cultural, passe a evidenciar-se uma visão integrada e participada (...)” -preconizado no Programa do XXII Governo Constitucional- e se a mesma se encontra espelhado naquele diploma legal. Por fim, pretende-se extrair algumas reflexões no domínio da instrumentalização do Direito na determinação das “alianças” e quais as possíveis “ameaças” dessa instrumentalização.[Abstract] The study is based on an analysis of the legal documents behind Decree-Law nº 51/2019 (17 April), and the text of the legislation itself, whose purpose is to define the Portuguese Way of St James route in order to ‘safeguard, enhance and promote’ the pilgrimage in Portugal. This is the first piece of legislation designed to regulate the Way of St James certification procedure, prompted by public interest in the route and increased use of the ‘Caminho de Santiago Certified’ brand. The analysis assesses how the sharing of responsibilities with citizens and other public administration bodies to ensure an integrated, participatory view of heritage (as recommended in the Portuguese Programme for Government, 2019-2023) is reflected in Decree-Law 51/2019. Adaptação psicossocial na obesidade pediátrica: Um estudo com pais, crianças e adolescentes

ObjetivoOs objetivos do presente estudo são 1) comparar a qualidade de vida (QdV) e os problemas psicológicos de crianças/adolescentes com obesidade, excesso de peso e peso saudável, e a QdV e sintomas de depressão e ansiedade dos seus pais; 2) averiguar se a adaptação psicossocial dos pais está associada à QdV das crianças/adolescentes através dos seus problemas psicológicos e se estas associações são moderadas pela idade da criança/adolescente.MétodoA amostra foi constituída por 264 díades pais-filhos divididas em 3 grupos (peso saudável, excesso de peso e obesidade).ResultadosAs crianças/adolescentes com obesidade reportaram pior QdV e maiores níveis de problemas psicológicos do que as crianças/adolescentes com peso saudável. Os adolescentes reportaram pior QdV do que as crianças. Os pais das crianças/adolescentes com obesidade reportaram pior QdV e mais sintomas ansiosos e depressivos comparativamente aos pais das crianças/adolescentes com peso saudável. A associação entre ansiedade dos pais e a QdV das crianças/adolescentes foi mediada pelos problemas psicológicos dos adolescentes.ConclusãoÉ fundamental a implementação de intervenções multidisciplinares focadas na família, que visem a perda de peso da criança/adolescente, mas também a promoção da saúde mental e da QdV das crianças/adolescentes e dos seus pais
