In Vivo Evaluation Of Complex Biogenic Silver Nanoparticle And Enoxaparin In Wound Healing

Due to antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNP), these particles can avoid bacterial infection in wound and accelerate the wound healing. Furthermore, the complexation of AgNP with enoxaparin (low molecular weight heparin) may improve the healing process of lesions due to anti-inflammatory and angiogenic activity of enoxaparin (Enox). The aim of this study was evaluated the activity and toxicity of biogenic AgNP and AgNP complexed with Enox in in vivo burn wound model. AgNP was produced by biosynthesis method using Fusarium oxysporum. AgNP (20-40 nm) exhibited high stability due to protein capping around the particles that was confirmed by TEM, fluorescence spectroscopy, and FTIR. The wound contraction in in vivo model, after 28 days of treatment, was 55, 89, 91, and 95% for control, Enox, AgNP, and AgNP-Enox groups, respectively. No clear toxic effects in the biochemistry and hematological parameters were verified in all treated groups. However, in the AgNP-Enox group, a statistically significant increase in the urea levels was observed indicating increased proteolysis due to inflammation process. Effect of fulvic acids on lead-induced oxidative stress to metal sensitive Vicia faba L. plant
Lead (Pb) is a ubiquitous environmental pollutant capable to induce various morphological, physiological, and biochemical functions in plants. Only few publications focus on the influence of Pb speciation both on its phytoavailability and phytotoxicity. Therefore, Pb toxicity (in terms of lipid peroxidation, hydrogen peroxide induction, and photosynthetic pigments contents) was studied in Vicia faba plants in relation with Pb uptake and speciation. V. faba seedlings were exposed to Pb supplied as Pb(NO3)2 or complexed by two fulvic acids (FAs), i.e. Suwannee River fulvic acid (SRFA) and Elliott Soil fulvic acid (ESFA), for 1, 12, and 24 h under controlled hydroponic conditions. For both FAs, Pb uptake and translocation by Vicia faba increased at low level (5 mg l−1), whereas decreased at high level of application (25 mg l−1). Despite the increased Pb uptake with FAs at low concentrations, there was no influence on the Pb toxicity to the plants. However, at high concentrations, FAs reduced Pb toxicity by reducing its uptake. These results highlighted the role of the dilution factor for FAs reactivity in relation with structure; SRFA was more effective than ESFA in reducing Pb uptake and alleviating Pb toxicity to V. faba due to comparatively strong binding affinity for the heavy metal

Rehabilitative treatment of patients with covid-19 infection: The p.a.r.m.a. evidence based clinical practice protocol
Background: The impact of the SARS-CoV-2 on the National Health System (NHS) required a reorganization of the various levels of care, which also involved the rehabilitation reality. Aim of the work: A clinical practice review of the literature was conducted to provide operational-rehabilitation guidelines adapt-ed to the local reality and to the recent corporate reorganization in the context of the COVID-19 emergency. Methods: A practice review of the available scientific evidence was regularly conducted from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to periodically update the clinical practice guidelines. Articles that met the following inclusion criteria were included: studies conducted on human adult subjects with COVID-19 infection, un-dergoing rehabilitation in any hospitalization setting. Results: The results of this clinical practice update were periodically discussed with colleagues and collaborators in a multi-professional team, in order to guarantee a good clinical practice protocol, named P.A.R.M.A. Conclusions: The P.A.R.M.A. protocol is the result of a periodic review literature update, which has allowed us to take charge of patients affected by COVID-19 ac-cording to the most up-to-date clinical evidences, guaranteeing a shared and uniform treatment within a local reality in an era of health emergency. Risk measures for direct real estate investments with non-normal or unknown return distributions
The volatility of returns is probably the most widely used risk measure for real estate. This is rather surprising since a number of studies have cast doubts on the view that volatility can capture the manifold risks attached to properties and corresponds to the risk attitude of investors. A central issue in this discussion is the statistical properties of real estate returns—in contrast to neoclassical capital market theory they are mostly non-normal and often unknown, which render many statistical measures useless. Based on a literature review and an analysis of data from Germany we provide evidence that volatility alone is inappropriate for measuring the risk of direct real estate.
We use a unique data sample by IPD, which includes the total returns of 939 properties across different usage types (56% office, 20% retail, 8% others and 16% residential properties) from 1996 to 2009, the German IPD Index, and the German Property Index. The analysis of the distributional characteristics shows that German real estate returns in this period were not normally distributed and that a logistic distribution would have been a better fit. This is in line with most of the current literature on this subject and leads to the question which indicators are more appropriate to measure real estate risks. We suggest that a combination of quantitative and qualitative risk measures more adequately captures real estate risks and conforms better with investor attitudes to risk. Calf and dam characteristics and calf transport age affect immunoglobulin titers and hematological parameters of veal calves
This study aimed to investigate effects of transport
age of calves (14 vs. 28 d), and of calf and dam characteristics,
on immunoglobulin titers and hematological
variables of veal calves. Calves (n = 683) were transported
to a veal farm at 14 or 28 d of age. Natural antibodies
N-IgG, N-IgM, and N-IgA against phosphorylcholine
conjugated to bovine serum albumin (PC-BSA)
were measured in serum of the dams 1 wk before calving
and in first colostrum. These antibodies were also
measured in serum of calves 1 wk after birth, 1 d before
transport, and in wk 2 and 10 posttransport at the veal
farm. Hematological variables were assessed in calves 1
d before transport and in wk 2 posttransport. One day
before transport, titers of N-IgG, N-IgM, N-IgA, and
neutrophil counts were higher, and lymphocyte counts
were lower in 14-d-old calves compared with 28-d-old
calves. In wk 2 at the veal farm, calves transported
at 14 d of age had higher N-IgG titers and neutrophil
counts, but lower N-IgM and N-IgA titers, and lymphocyte
counts than calves transported at 28 d. In wk 1
and 1 d before transport, N-Ig in calves were positively
related to N-Ig in colostrum. In wk 2 and 10 at the veal
farm, N-IgG in calves was positively related to N-IgG
in colostrum. The N-IgG titers in calves at the dairy farm were negatively related to the likelihood of being
individually treated with antibiotics or other medicines
at the veal farm. Our results suggest that calves transported
to the veal farm at 28 d of age showed a more
advanced development of their adaptive immunity than calves transported at 14 d of age. Quality of colostrum
might have long-term consequences for N-IgG titers

Stochastic Dynamic Programming Applied to Hydrothermal Power Systems Operation Planning Based on the Convex Hull Algorithm
This paper presents a new approach for the expected cost-to-go functions modeling used in the stochastic dynamic programming (SDP) algorithm. The SDP technique is applied to the long-term operation planning of electrical power systems. Using state space discretization, the Convex Hull algorithm is used for constructing a series of hyperplanes that composes a convex set. These planes represent a piecewise linear approximation for the expected cost-to-go functions. The mean operational costs for using the proposed methodology were compared with those from the deterministic dual dynamic problem in a case study, considering a single inflow scenario. This sensitivity analysis shows the convergence of both methods and is used to determine the minimum discretization level. Additionally, the applicability of the proposed methodology for two hydroplants in a cascade is demonstrated. With proper adaptations, this work can be extended to a complete hydrothermal system
NLP based model for individual plant dispatch in long term hydrothermal planning
This paper presents a method to the hydrothermal dispatch using optimization techniques based on non linear programming techniques. To do so, the expected cost-to-go functions from a long term operation plannning strategic decision model are used. This decision model is based on stochastic dual dynamic programming and energy equivalent reservoirs. The proposed method considers a set of historical water inflow scenarios to the hydroelectric reservoirs. Those scenarios are used to simulate the long term operation planning to a given horizon. The results obtained from this disaggregation model (MIUH) are compared with those from the model officially adopted in the Brazilian power system, SUISHI-O. The latter is based on operation heuristics aiming at operating the reservoir maintaining the water storag e in similar levels, that is, trying to operate them in parallel.Este trabalho apresenta um modelo de despacho hidrotérmico à usinas individualizadas, utilizando métodos de otimização baseados em programação não linear. Para tanto, considera-se funções de custo futuro geradas por um modelo de decisão estratégica baseado em programação dinâmica e sistemas equivalentes de energia. O modelo proposto considera diversos cenários históricos de afluências hidrológicas às usinas hidrelétricas, os quais são simulados para um horizonte de planejamento da operação de médio/longo prazo. Os resultados obtidos através do modelo proposto, denominado Modelo Individualizado de Usinas Hidráulicas (MIUH), são comparados com os resultados obtidos a partir da utilização do modelo SUISHI-O adotado pelo Operador Nacional do Sistema Elétrico Brasileiro (ONS)
Biocontrol traits of Bacillus licheniformis GL174, a culturable endophyte of Vitis vinifera cv. Glera
Background
Bacillus licheniformis GL174 is a culturable endophytic strain isolated from Vitis vinifera cultivar Glera, the grapevine mainly cultivated for the Prosecco wine production. This strain was previously demonstrated to possess some specific plant growth promoting traits but its endophytic attitude and its role in biocontrol was only partially explored. In this study, the potential biocontrol action of the strain was investigated in vitro and in vivo and, by genome sequence analyses, putative functions involved in biocontrol and plant-bacteria interaction were assessed.
Results
Firstly, to confirm the endophytic behavior of the strain, its ability to colonize grapevine tissues was demonstrated and its biocontrol properties were analyzed. Antagonism test results showed that the strain could reduce and inhibit the mycelium growth of diverse plant pathogens in vitro and in vivo. The strain was demonstrated to produce different molecules of the lipopeptide class; moreover, its genome was sequenced, and analysis of the sequences revealed the presence of many protein-coding genes involved in the biocontrol process, such as transporters, plant-cell lytic enzymes, siderophores and other secondary metabolites.
Conclusions
This step-by-step analysis shows that Bacillus licheniformis GL174 may be a good biocontrol agent candidate, and describes some distinguished traits and possible key elements involved in this process. The use of this strain could potentially help grapevine plants to cope with pathogen attacks and reduce the amount of chemicals used in the vineyard
