Introduction. Translation and plurilingual approaches to language teaching and learning
As we enter the second decade of the 21st century, the challenges and possibilities surrounding the role of translation in language learning appear both in some ways similar and rather different from what they were twenty or even ten years ago. Much progress has been made in integrating translation as a key component in language education. In recent years, an increased interest in the multilingual dimension has offered further opportunities for reflection and experimentation around the role translation can play as part of plurilingual pedagogies. At the same time, some of the old misconceptions have lingered in some quarters and continue to hold back further advances
The main objective of this study was the adaptation and standardization of the
Expressive One-Word Picture Vocabulary Test in 3 years to 11 years and 11 months
children from private and public schools from Lima Metropolitana in order to have an
Expressive Vocabulary Test according to their socio cultural context.
We made a quantitative study in which the results obtained were statistically
analyzed after the application of the instrument to 832 participants. The instrument
used was the Gardner’s Expressive One-Word Picture Vocabulary Test which was
previously adapted with the corresponding pictorial and lexical changes. Later, the
test was reviewed by a five person expert team to determine if the changes made were
accepted. The final step was performing the fieldwork was performed in order to
determine the validity and the test reliability after the results.
The reliability of the test was proven through the Cronbach Alpha method
where were 0,73 to 0,80 values were reached. This explains its reliability. Its validity
was estimated through judges’ criteria, which was confirmed by The Aiken’s V
method. In addition, a difference between age ranges was made through the analysis
of variance; having as a result had a high significance among children of the same age
range. All of this proves that the test is not only reliable but valid as well. Finally, we
elaborated bar charts for 3 years to 11 year-11 months-old children from private and
public schools from Lima Metropolitana which have percentile scores, enneatypes
and IQ scores.
The results show hat the adaptation and standardization of the Gardner’s
Expressive One-Word Picture Vocabulary Test was reached in 3 years to 11 years
and 11 month old children from private and public schools from Lima Metropolitana.Tesi
Influence of HLA Matching on the Efficacy of Allogeneic Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Therapies for Osteoarthritis and Degenerative Disc Disease
Producción CientíficaThe necessity for more effective therapies for chronic osteoarticular diseases has led to the development of treatments based on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), the natural precursors of musculoskeletal tissue. Treatments with autologous MSCs yielded excellent results, with nearly 70% improvement of pain and disability in osteoarthritis and degenerative disc disease. Using allogeneic MSCs is logistically more convenient and would widen the pool of eligible patients, but potential immune rejection should be considered. In this context, MSCs are purportedly immune evasive and better tolerated than other cell types.
Methods We used samples collected during the performance of 2 randomized clinical trials using allogeneic bone marrow MSCs for treatment of osteoarthritis (NCT01586312) and degenerative disc disease (NCT01860417). Serum samples were used to determine anti-HLA antibodies, whereas either blood or MSC samples were used for HLA typing of recipients and donors, respectively. Algofunctional indexes were used as indicators of clinical evolution, and the correlation between the number of donor-host HLA mismatches and the efficacy of treatment was determined.
Results Immune response was weak and transient, with reactivity decaying during the first year. Consistently, better donor-recipient HLA matching did not enhance efficacy.
Conclusions This lack of reactivity is presumably due to the cooperation of 2 factors, (1) downregulation of the host immune responses by the transplanted MSCs and (2) effective insulation of these cells inside the articular cavity or the intervertebral disc, respectively. Interestingly, better HLA matching did not enhance efficacy. These observations have medical relevance as they support the clinical use of allogeneic cells, at least as a single-dose administration. Multiple-dose applications will require further research to exclude possible sensitization.

Objective:To identify the psychosocial factors determiningthe treatment adherence in type 2diabetics (DM2). Materialsand methods: An observational, cross-sectional,and analyticalresearch was performedin 70patientsof the Health Center of Tacoaleche, based on the latestmonthly clinical record, glycemic, number of attendedappointments, and an instrument application that included variables socio-demographics,from the same disease, and psychosocial.Data were submitted to chi-square tests.Results. The 65.7percent were women with 57-yearsold, 54.3percent of them with incomplete elementary education, and 14.3percent illiterate. The 52.9percent was housewivesand the reminder women were devoted to other activities. The average of glucose was170.1mg/dl. All patients had drug treatment with nine years withDM2diagnosis.Only 10percent adhered to diet and physical exercise, 28.6percent attended to the medical appointments, and21.4percent had glycemic control. The most relevant psychosocial determinants (p>0.05) were:perception of available support, intentions to adhere, and disease severity.Conclusions.The lack of adherence to treatment to theDM2suggests implementing the search for new strategies to increase dietaryand exercisehabits. The attendance at scheduled medical appointments and glycemic control are also crucial factors for DM2control.Psychosocially, the health belief model and the theory of reasoned action helped to understand and explain adherence to the treatment.Key words:Psychosocialfactors, adherence to the treatment, type 2diabetes.
