It is important to highlight the diversity of families and models of family organization currently existing, due to the cultural, social and economic changes that have taken place in recent years. These changes are sometimes difficult for children to face and we must keep in mind that the most important thing is the happiness of the child. With this article, I wanted to invite people to read it, to make a reflection on their family models and see if their behavior is best suited for the development of the child

The importance of teachers and parents in fostering child resilience

In my article, I refer to the great work that teachers and parents have to do, among others, to encourage the development of child resilience. Children, for different reasons, must become stronger after the adversity that is presented to them throughout their lives. However, not all children react the same to the problems. In this paper, I emphasize the role of teachers and parents in these situations and also spoke of the types and sources of resilience among other issues

A rapid procedure for the isolation of plasmid DNA from environmental bacteria

    Get PDF
The INSTA-MINI-PREP method, a rapid protocol for plasmid DNA extraction, was originally developed to prepare plasmid DNA from 1 to 3 ml miniprep Escherichia coli cultures. Direct extraction of plasmid DNA is achieved by a two-phase solution which is separated by centrifugation in the presence of the INSTA-PREP gel barrier material. This method has been successfully tested on various environmental Salmonella strains, although it was not suitable for Pseudomonas aeruginosa and enterococci strains. The INSTA-MINI-PREP method is a new alternative procedure to screen plasmid contents of Salmonella and E. coli strains rapidly and easily

Conditional and Unconditional Tests (and Sample Size) Based on Multiple Comparisons for Stratified 2 × 2 Tables

The Mantel-Haenszel test is the most frequent asymptotic test used for analyzing stratified 2x2 tables. Its exact alternative is the test of Birch, which has recently been reconsidered by Jung. Both tests have a conditional origin: Pearson’s chi-squared test and Fisher’s exact test, respectively. But both tests have the same drawback that the result of global test (the stratified test) may not be compatible with the result of individual tests (the test for each stratum). In this paper, we propose to carry out the global test using a multiple comparisons method (MC method) which does not have this disadvantage. By refining the method (MCB method) an alternative to the Mantel-Haenszel and Birch tests may be obtained. The new MC and MCB methods have the advantage that they may be applied from an unconditional view, a methodology which until now has not been applied to this problem. We also propose some sample size calculation methods. This research was supported by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Spanish, Grant no. MTM2012-35591

Internet Risk Perception: Development and Validation of a Scale for Adults

    Get PDF
Despite the importance of Internet risk perception, no instrument currently exists that measures this awareness in the Spanish population. The goal of this study was to provide information on studies of the validity and reliability of the Internet Risk Perception (IRP) Scale for adult Spanish citizens. We began with a literature review and validation using a mixed panel with 20 participants. We analyzed the degree to which the subjects agreed or disagreed with the criteria evaluated, including contributions for improving the instrument, and performed a pilot test with 517 adults aged 18 to 77. Construct reliability and validity were analyzed using various statistical analyses. The results from the confirmatory factor analysis showed a sufficient accuracy of the data with parameters that indicated an excellent fit for all items. The Spanish version of the scale for adults is a reliable and valid instrument for use in studies that investigate Internet risk perception in people over 18 years of age.Operational Program FEDER 2014-2020/Andalusian Regional Government/Regional Ministry of Economic Transformation, Knowledge, and Universities of Andalusia/Project B-SEJ-102-UGR18Spanish Government FPU17/0516

Digital Rights and Responsibility in Education: A Scoping Review

    Get PDF
Studies on digital rights in education have both gained attention and provided a framework for research, policy and practice in educational research within the field of educational technology. The potential benefits we appreciate in Internet use are inseparable from the maximum risks involved. Faced with this responsibility, individuals demand that their rights and freedoms be guaranteed in the digital environment according to their various roles as students, teachers, families or staff. This scoping review selects and analyses 54 theoretical and empirical studies from the last decade (2013-2023), identifying the main topics investigated as privacy protection in online environments, right to digital security or cybersecurity, and right to digital education. The review underscores the need to guide efforts towards digital education for citizens because the legal regulation of rights and responsibilities is necessary but insufficient. The paper also makes arguments about acceptance, limitations and implications for teacher training.European Regional Development Fund’s 2014-2020 Operational Program, the Andalusian Government, and Spain’s Department of Economic Transformation, Industry, Knowledge and Universities (Project A.SEJ.46.UGR 2020)

Does Postural Feedback Reduce Musculoskeletal Risk?: A Randomized Controlled Trial

    Get PDF
Background: There is a high prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among personnel working in the healthcare sector, mainly among nursing assistants and orderlies. Objective: The objective is to analyze the effectiveness of a multi-component intervention that included postural feedback in reducing musculoskeletal risk. Method: A total of 24 nursing assistants and orderlies in a hospital setting were randomly assigned to an intervention group or a control group. After collecting sociodemographic information, a selection of tasks was made and assessed using the REBA (rapid entire body assessment) method. A multi-component intervention was designed combining theoretical and practical training, including feedback on the postures performed by the professionals involved, especially those involving high musculoskeletal risk. This program was applied only to participants in the intervention group. Subsequently, eight months after the first assessment and intervention, the second assessment was carried out using the same method and process as in the first evaluation. Results: The results indicate that the musculoskeletal risk in the second assessment in the intervention group was significantly reduced. However, no significant changes were observed in the control group. Conclusion: The multi-component intervention applied can significantly reduce the musculoskeletal risk of nursing assistants and orderlies. In addition, it is a low-cost intervention with great applicability.Depto. de Psicología Social, del Trabajo y DiferencialFac. de PsicologíaTRUERegional Health Departmentpu

New Challenges Regarding the Intervention of Musculoskeletal Risk in Truck Service Garages

    Get PDF
Background: The automotive industry is heavily affected by sick leaves caused by the handling of loads and using postures that produce musculoskeletal disorders. Research is needed to analyse their causes and find possible solutions to eliminate or mitigate these risks. Objective: Our objective was to analyse the level of musculoskeletal risk in the different work tasks performed by truck and bus mechanics. Our intention is also to analyse whether postural training and feedback can help reduce risk. Methods: The rapid entire body assessment (REBA) was used to assess the postures performed by 35 mechanics from eight branches throughout Spain. The participants were subsequently divided randomly into two groups (experimental group and control group). The experimental group (EG) was given training and feedback on their postures and the control group (CG) was not offered any type of intervention. A few months after the initial assessment, their postural load in the usual tasks was re-evaluated. Results: An overall average REBA Score: 10.49 ± 1.33. The main risk was found in the trunk and arms with sustained above-the-head postures. EG’s second results are significantly improved compared to the first (p = 0.026 *). Conclusions: These jobs have a high-risk level of musculoskeletal disorders. The course of action presented with postural training and feedback has shown satisfactory results. Nevertheless, given the size of the sample, further research will be needed to delve deeper into this possibility as a future line of intervention.Depto. de Psicología Social, del Trabajo y DiferencialFac. de PsicologíaTRUEpu
