Aim: This systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy of heparin to maintain the patency of a venous access, whether it is a peripheral catheter or a central catheter, both in children and adults. Methods: A bibliographic research was carried out with MeSH and DeCS terms and free-text language in PubMed, BVS, CINAHL, Cochrane, SciELO, Scopus and Clinical trials using as inclusion criteria for the results to be randomized clinical trials comparing the efficacy of heparin and sodium chloride in venous accesses. Results: 10 clinical trials were found that met the inclusion criteria: 3 of them on central venous accesses, both in children and adults; 7 of them on peripheral catheters: 2 of them in adults, 2 in children and 3 in neonates. Of these 10 trials, whether using as criteria the duration of the catheter or the occlusion of it, 4 of them prove that heparin is more effective than sodium chloride to maintain the patency of a venous peripheral access, while 6 of the trials show that sodium chloride is as effective as heparin to maintain patency of a catheter. Conclusion: Most of the trials show that saline is as effective as a low dose of heparin to maintain the patency of venous accesses. Although 4 of the trials used in this review show the more efficacy of heparin compare to saline, there is not enough scientific evidence that supports its use in the maintenance of venous catheters, so more investigation is recommended about the efficacy of heparin or about alternative drugs to maintain patency in venous catheters

Introduction: Conyza bonariensis (L.) Cronquist is a herbaceous plant of the underbrush group. It is distributed worldwide and is used to treat a variety of skin conditions. Objective: Evaluate the in vitro inhibitory activity of the tincture from C. bonariensis leaves against fungi and bacteria causing superficial infections. Methods: The tincture was obtained by alcoholic maceration of dry leaves of C. bonariensis. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the tincture was determined against 53 isolates from patients with superficial lesions and 6 reference strains; 20 Malassezia (7 M. sympodialis, 7 M. furfur, 6 M. globosa), 16 Candida (8 C. albicans, 8 C. parapsilosis), 17 dermatophytes (6 Trichophyton rubrum, 6 Trichophyton mentagrophytes, 5 Microsporum canis) and 6 Staphylococcus aureus. Results: A notable reduction in the viability of most of the microorganisms evaluated was obtained at low concentrations (under 10 % v/v) of the C. bonariensis tincture. Conclusions: Results allow to conclude that the C. bonariensis tincture displays antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and antifungal activity against the main fungi causing superficial infections, such as dermatophytes, Candida and Malassezia. MIC variations were found between genera and species, but not within each species. These results may help experts find a scientific explanation for the empirical use of the C. bonariensis extract to treat various skin infections and revalue traditional ethnomedical knowledge.Fil: Mussin, Javier Esteban. A software service supporting software quality forecasting

    Get PDF
Software repositories such as source control, defect tracking systems and project management tools, are used to support the progress of software projects. The exploitation of such data with techniques like forecasting is becoming an increasing need in several domains to support decision-making processes. However, although there exist several statistical tools and languages supporting forecasting, there is a lack of friendly approaches that enable practitioners to exploit the advantages of creating and using such models in their dashboard tools. Therefore, we have developed a modular and flexible forecasting service allowing the interconnection with different kinds of databases/data repositories for creating and exploiting forecasting models based on methods like ARIMA or ETS. The service is open source software, has been developed in Java and R and exposes its functionalities through a REST API. Architecture details are provided, along with functionalities’ description and an example of its use for software quality forecasting.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Grain cereals such as wheat, barley, rice, and maize are the nutritional basis of humans and animals worldwide. Thus, these crop plants are essential in terms of global food security. We conducted a bibliometric assessment of scientific documents and patents related to wheat and barley through the Scopus database. The number of documents published per year, their affiliation and corresponding scientific areas, the publishing journals, document types and languages were metricized. The main keywords included in research publications concerning these crops were also analysed globally and clustered in thematic groups. In the case of keywords related to agronomy or genetics and molecular biology, we considered documents dated up to 1999, and from 2000 to 2018, separately. Comparison of the results obtained for wheat and barley revealed some remarkable different trends, for which the underlying reasons are further discussed

Ponencia y Poster. En Actas del Congreso, el trabajo figura: Quagliariello G., Lafalla L. - Importance of the contribution of rabbit meat in the diet of families in vulnerable conditions, in departments of northeastern Mendoza, Argentina. O-09Pour families feeding, especially in developing countries, is limited in the intake of animal protein, among other deficiencies. Their diet can be improved by incorporating rabbit meat produced by themselves at familiar farms. This has been demonstrated, in different emerging countries of the world, by the results of the implementation of projects and programs for this purpose over time. PROHUERTA Program, financed by the Argentinian Social Development Ministry and executed by National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), has been implemented for 30 years, with the purpose of improving the diet of population in vulnerable situation through orchards and farms of domestic species. In this research, the amount of protein supplied to the family diet and the required time for animal care were quantified, which support the importance of this type of production in rural and peri-urban areas in Mendoza province northeast. The methodology was based on the analysis of 32 survey results realized to members of these families. In addition, qualified referents as public agents of Extension and Rural Development Area of INTA, responsible of territorial execution of PROHUERTA Program, were interviewed. As a result, it is possible to observe that the contribution of rabbit meat was sufficiently significant for the surveyed families, in 44% of the cases the consumption has weekly frequency, and in 56% of the cases, monthly.EEA JuninFil: Quagliariello, Roxana Gaby.
