A new methodology called dice game optimizer for capacitor placement in distribution systems

    Get PDF
Purpose. Shunt capacitors are installed in power system for compensating reactive power. Therefore, feeder capacity releases, voltage profile improves and power loss reduces. However, determination optimal location and size of capacitors in distributionsystems is a complex optimization problem. In order to determine the optimum size and location of the capacitor, an objective function which is generally defined based on capacitor installation costs and power losses should be minimized According to operational limitations. This paper offers a newly developed metaheuristic technique, named dice game optimizerto determine optimal size and location of capacitors in a distribution network. Dice game optimizer is a game based optimization technique that is based on the rules of the dice game.

Gastrointestinal helminthiasis presenting with acute diarrhoea and constipation: report of two cases with a second pathology.

Gastrointestinal helminthiasis in developing countries contributes to malnutrition and anemia. Diagnosis and treatment of helminthiasis, especially with low worm load is an unmet public health need in such settings. The infection may sometimes become manifest when a second pathology leads to purgation of the gastrointestinal tract. Two cases of helminthiasis are presented in which the infections only became amenable to diagnosis due to acute diarrhoea caused by giardiasis and lactulose administration. In the first case, acute giardiasis revealed Ascaris lumbricoides infestation, and in the second case primary helminthiasis (strongyloidiasis) was revealed by lactulose, and also led to Vibrio cholera bacteremia. These cases highlight the need to diagnose helminth infestations especially with low worm burdens by means of public health surveillance programmes. These cases highlight the need to diagnose helminth infestations especially with low worm burdens by means of public health surveillance programmes

Energy commitment: a planning of energy carrier based on energy сonsumption

Purpose. Energy consumption is one of the criteria for determining the quality of life in a country. Continued supply of energy and the possibility of long-term access to resources require a comprehensive plan. One of the key issues in the field of energy planning is energy carriers. Inthis paper, a new theory is introduced to energy network studies for planning of energy carriers called Energy Commitment. In this theory, an appropriate planning is applied for energy carriers based the final energy consumption. Energy carriers are available either naturally or after the energy conversion process. Energy commitment is modeled on an energy network with the presence of electrical energy, gas energy, transportation section, agriculture section, industrial section, residential section, commercial section, and general section.

Randomised comparison of oral ofloxacin alone with combination of parenteral antibiotics in neutropenic febrile patients

Prompt treatment with empirical antibiotics in neutropenic febrile patients reduces morbidity and mortality. Most patients have been treated with parenteral combination antibiotics, but newer antibiotics with broad-spectrum bactericidal activity have made monotherapy feasible. Ofloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone, has the additional advantage that bactericidal concentrations can be achieved with oral administration. We have compared ofloxacin as an oral single agent with standard parenteral combination antibiotics for the management of neutropenic febrile patients in a prospective, randomised trial. Patients with severe neutropenia (absolute neutrophil count less than or equal to 0.5 x 10(9)/l), fever above 38 degrees C, and ability to take drugs by mouth were eligible for the study. After initial investigations, 60 patients were randomly assigned to oral ofloxacin 400 mg twice daily and 62 to parenteral combination antibiotic therapy (amikacin 15 mg/kg daily, plus, at various times in the trial, carbenicillin, cloxacillin, or piperacillin). Patients were examined 72 h and 7 days after the start of treatment and when neutropenia resolved. 24 (40%) ofloxacin-treated and 26 (42%) combination-treated patients had pyrexia of unknown origin (PUO). In both treatment groups, the treatment success rate was higher for such patients than for those with clinically or microbiologically documented infections (92% vs 67% [p less than 0.05] for ofloxacin; 85% vs 64% for combination). There were no significant differences in success rates of ofloxacin and combination treatment for these subgroups or overall (77% vs 73%). Patients with neutropenia for less than 1 week had better responses to both treatments than patients with longer-lasting neutropenia. There were 4 (7%) deaths in the ofloxacin group and 6 (10%) in the combination group. Both regimens were well tolerated. We conclude that oral single-agent ofloxacin is as effective as parenteral combination antibiotic therapy in neutropenic febrile patients, especially those expected to have short durations of neutropenia

Superfield Approach to (Non-)local Symmetries for One-Form Abelian Gauge Theory

We exploit the geometrical superfield formalism to derive the local, covariant and continuous Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) symmetry transformations and the non-local, non-covariant and continuous dual-BRST symmetry transformations for the free Abelian one-form gauge theory in four (3+1)(3 + 1)-dimensions (4D) of spacetime. Our discussion is carried out in the framework of BRST invariant Lagrangian density for the above 4D theory in the Feynman gauge. The geometrical origin and interpretation for the (dual-)BRST charges (and the transformations they generate) are provided in the language of translations of some superfields along the Grassmannian directions of the six (4+2) 4 + 2)-dimensional supermanifold parametrized by the four spacetime and two Grassmannian variables.Comment: LaTeX file, 23 page

The paper presents results of studies on carbon nanotubes – as received, after cleaning and also after modification. Functional groups as well as metal nanoparticles have been attached, originating from cobalt sulphate, copper acetate and a mixture of hydrogen bromide and bromide. The surface studies on an atomic forces microscope (AFM), X-ray studies (phase composition analysis, crystallite sizes determination) as well as Raman spectroscopy studies were carried out on such nanotubes. The surface topography studies have shown that after the modification the diameter and length of nanotubes change. Also the surface development changes, which has been determined through roughness parameter measurements. The change of intensity, of crystallite size and of half-value width of main reflections originating from carbon for nanotubes modified in various ways have been determined using the X-ray analysis

Effect of sorbitol in callus induction and plant regeneration in wheat

Six wheat genotypes were evaluated for their response to callus induction and regeneration on MS medium modified with different concentrations of sorbitol, that is, 0, 10, 20, 30 gL-1 along with optimum (3 mgL-1) concentration of 2,4-D. Variability was observed among different genotypes for callus induction. Highest callus induction frequency was shown by Wafaq- 2001, which was about 85.62% followed by Inqalab-91 which showed 71.94% callus induction. While minimum callus induction frequency was shown by Saleem-2000 which was about 51.21%. Regarding sorbitol concentration highest average callus induction frequency (79.20%) was obtained at 20 gL-1 and lowest average callus induction frequency (59.20%) was observed at 30 gL-1. In Wafaq-2001 and Inqalab-91 plant regeneration increased gradually by increasing the sorbitol concentration from 0 to 20 gL-1 but then it decreased. Similarly Auqab-2002 had no regeneration al all on non-sorbitol medium but showed regeneration on addition of sorbitol. Similarly time duration required for plant regeneration also decreased by increasing the concentration of sorbitol. It was also observed that sorbitol has given more strength to regenerated plant

Research Problem: What is the level of bacterial carriage in different groups of hospital staff? Objective: To study nasal and hand carriage of bacteria in different groups of persons in a teaching hospital. Study Design: Prospective study. Setting: Surgical wards of J.N. Medical College Hospital, A.M.U., Aligarh. Participants: Randomly selected persons from different groups of hospital staff (doctors, nurses, ward and OT assistants), visitors of patients, patients and medical students. Sample Size: 275 persons. Study Variables: Nasal and hand carriage of S. aureus and gram negative bacilli. Outcome Variables: Percentage of hospital staff showing bacterial carriage in their nose or on their hands. Statistical Analysis: By tests of significance. Result: Overall bacterial carriage rate in different categories of hospital staff was found to be 54.5%. Doctors and paramedical staff had higher bacterial carriage rate as compared to other groups. Though Staphylococcus aureus was the commonest organism isolated from both nose and skin, carriage of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas and Klebsiella group of gram-negative bacilli was also observed. Nasal carriage was commoner than dermal carriage. Conclusion: Doctors and paramedical staff in hospital should adopt appropriate preventive measures to avoid transmitting pathogenic bacteria from their nose and skin to their patients
