Student Integrated ProjectIncludes supplementary materialThis technical report analyzed the Navy's proposed Riverine Force (RF) structure and capabilities for 2012. The Riverine Sustainment 2012 Team (RST) examined the cost and performance of systems of systems which increased RF sustainment in logistically barren environments. RF sustainment was decomposed into its functional areas of supply, repair, and force protection. The functional and physical architectures were developed in parallel and were used to construct an operational architecture for the RF. The RST used mathematical, agent-based and queuing models to analyze various supply, repair and force protection system alternatives. Extraction of modeling data revealed several key insights. Waterborne heavy lift connectors such as the LCU-2000 are vital in the re-supply of the RF when it is operating up river in a non-permissive environment. Airborne heavy lift connectors such as the MV-22 were ineffective and dominated by the waterborne variants in the same environment. Increase in manpower and facilities did appreciable add to the operational availability of the RF. Mean supply response time was the biggest factor effecting operational availability and should be kept below 24 hours to maintain operational availability rates above 80%. Current mortar defenses proposed by the RF are insufficient.N

"When are you getting married?" : An exploration of Singaporeans' milestones while progressing into marriage

Delaying marriage has serious repercussions for Singapore’s population demographic resulting from the strong association between marriage and fertility. Using a life course approach which emphasises on the linkages between independent events, this paper investigates 2 things. Firstly, the reasons for delayed marriages amongst Singaporeans through understanding the normative events, associated cultural timings and actual Singaporeans' intended progression towards marriage. Secondly, how normative expectations and individual agency interact to produce the Singaporean life course towards marriage. Based on interview results gathered from 10 respondents, this paper concludes that there exist durational and sequential expectations on 10 culturally established milestones. They are - singlehood, dating, completing education, employment, economic stability, proposal, cohabitation, marriage, acquiring a house and childbirth. By acknowledging both the normative and agency aspects of the life course, this paper discusses how individuals act freely within the bounds of normative standards when making decisions relating to marriage.Bachelor of Arts in Sociolog

The Singapore national precision medicine strategy

Precision medicine promises to transform healthcare for groups and individuals through early disease detection, refining diagnoses and tailoring treatments. Analysis of large-scale genomic-phenotypic databases is a critical enabler of precision medicine. Although Asia is home to 60% of the world's population, many Asian ancestries are under-represented in existing databases, leading to missed opportunities for new discoveries, particularly for diseases most relevant for these populations. The Singapore National Precision Medicine initiative is a whole-of-government 10-year initiative aiming to generate precision medicine data of up to one million individuals, integrating genomic, lifestyle, health, social and environmental data. Beyond technologies, routine adoption of precision medicine in clinical practice requires social, ethical, legal and regulatory barriers to be addressed.
