Educational Intervention to Change Knowledge and Attitudes Regarding Sexual Behaviors to Reduce Rates of Sexually Transmitted Infections among University of Kentucky’s Sorority Life Students.
Sexually transmitted infections disproportionally affect young adults. Within this age group, women are at an increased risk for contracting and STI and face more severe long-term adverse consequences than men. College aged individuals are at an increased risk for contracting an STI due to risky sexual behaviors such as unprotected sex with multiple partners. College students involved in Greek Life have been found to engage in risker sexual behaviors than non-Greek life students. These individuals perceive themselves to be at a higher risk for contracting an STI and have an increased number of unprotected sexual encounters under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The University of Kentucky, located in Lexington, reported a 393% increase in Chlamydia cases from 2007 to 2017. Due to the risk factors involved in Greek Life and the spike in STI cases on campus, The University of Kentucky’s Panhellenic community is the ideal place to implement an intervention program. Insights is a minimal, yet highly tailored intervention focused on improving the adoption of condom use and other safe sex practices among sorority women. Participants complete a baseline survey which identifies a unique combination of strategies and pertinent information that are most beneficial to the individual. Customized booklets will be created and distributed to each participant. Along with the booklets women will receive a safe sex kit. Goals of the intervention include increasing existing knowledge regarding STIs and sexual risks, promoting positive change in attitudes and beliefs surrounding condom use, and enhancing self-efficacy for condom use and safer sex negotiations. Insights will be evaluated with self-administered 3-month and 6-month follow up surveys. Identifying barriers and opportunities for program implementation in our specific community as well as overall program effectiveness in promoted our desired goals is the focus of our evaluation. Long-term intervention outcomes include a decrease in STI prevalence within our community
ASSESSMENT OF ELDERLY BLOOD PRESSURE WITH BACKWARD TANDEM WALK INTERVENTION
Blood pressure is the impulse generated by the walls of the arteries, which are then pumped from the heart throughout the body. In maintaining balance in the elderly, physical exercise is needed to prevent the risk of falling. One of the exercises that can be done is a balance exercise by using a backward tandem walk. This exercise is intended to improve the lateral part of the postural balance, train the attitude or position of the body, control balance, muscle coordination and body movements of the elderly. This study aimed to analyze the effect of assessing blood pressure in the elderly after and before the backward tandem walk intervention. The design used was the Pre-Experimental with the Pre-Post design approach with a sample of 60 elderly respondents who were taken using a non-probability sampling technique and also a consecutive sampling technique. The independent variable is the backward tandem walk exercise while the dependent variable is blood pressure. Blood pressure measurement using observation sheet pre and post-backwards tandem walk exercise. The data were analyzed and then obtained a p-value of 0.000 (<0.005) meaning that there was a difference in blood pressure before and after treatment. From the mean results, it is known that there is an effect of blood pressure on the elderly. The results of the study imply that the backward tandem walk exercise for the elderly is carried out routinely, especially for the elderly with hypertension
Promoting safe and enjoyable sporting experiences for children in Wales
The overall purpose of this thesis was to gain an in-depth understanding of the experiences of young people, parents, and coaches regarding bullying, emotional abuse, and enjoyment in sport in Wales. Additionally, it aimed to explore ways to enhance safety and enjoyment in sport. Study 1 employed a two-phase mixed methods explanatory sequential design to investigate the safeguarding landscape in youth sport throughout Wales. The findings revealed that emotional abuse and bullying were widespread, with peer-perpetrated bullying being the most observed and experienced. Moreover, the results indicated that young people, parents, and coaches often struggled to recognise these behaviours as emotional abuse or bullying. Instead, they attributed the prevalence of these abusive behaviours to cultural and environmental factors. Furthermore, the results also highlighted various barriers and facilitators related to intervening in cases of emotional abuse and bullying. These factors were influenced by both personal and contextual factors. Informed by Study 1, Study 2 used a grounded theory methodology to develop a substantive theory of the process through which an optimally safe and enjoyable sporting experience is created for young people in sport. The resultant theory highlighted that establishing positive relationships between young people and key individuals in a physically and developmentally safe environment was a fundamental requirement for fostering an optimally safe and enjoyable sporting experience. Achieving this required consideration of factors both in the immediate and broad sporting context. Finally, drawing on the findings of the first two studies, Study 3 employed a feasibility study design with the primary aim of developing, implementing, and evaluating the feasibility of conducting a creative educational workshop designed to enhance young people’s awareness of safeguarding, emotional abuse, bullying, and enjoyment in sport. Participants reported that the workshop helped them reflect on their own behaviour, enhanced their understanding of the consequences of bullying and emotional abuse, and provided guidance on how to report concerns. However, the results also highlighted some significant challenges in delivering the initiative. These challenges included varying levels of participant engagement with, and interest in, the creative approaches (i.e., story completion interviews and creative arts-based tasks). Another challenge was related to the group dynamics among participants. Overall, this body of research has highlighted the ongoing need to enhance understanding of emotional abuse and bullying in sport, while also ensure steps are taken by all individuals and organisations to proactively seek to enhance children’s sporting experiences
Crystal Structure Determination of Ubiquitin by Fusion to a Protein That Forms a Highly Porous Crystal Lattice
The protein crystallization process requires screening a large number of conditions using a large quantity of high-purity protein, which makes crystal structure analysis difficult. Thus, the development of easy and versatile protein crystallization techniques is both extremely desirable and highly challenging. Here, I demonstrate the crystallization and structure determination of ubiquitin by genetic fusion to the highly porous honeycomb lattice of R1EN. I successfully crystallized and collected X-ray data from three R1EN-ubiquitin constructs with varied linker lengths under the same conditions as the original R1EN. The crystals diffracted to 1.7-2.4 Ă… resolution, and the ubiquitin structures were determined with results almost identical to the previously published structure. Moreover, the ubiquitin structure could be solved by molecular replacement using R1EN alone. This method may reduce the effort required for crystallization screening and is applicable to de novo protein structure determination

Arbitration of Islamic Financial Disputes
Using arbitration as a means of resolving Islamic finance disputes is gaining popularity in the Middle East, as well as in other Muslim States in South-East Asia and Africa. This is evident in the number of studies and articles that have been presented on this subject by Islamic finance experts and the legal community at large. Major arbitration institutions in the region are also positioning themselves to cater to this industry’s growing demand for dispute resolutions because many of these disputes tend to be of high profile and value. While the industry historically has preferred litigation over adjudication, and non-Islamic venues and laws to govern the subject of the disputes, there have been calls by legal and financial experts to refer more disputes to ADR methods, particularly arbitration, and provide custom arbitration clauses, procedures and practices more in line with Shari’a Law. This is similar to what has been established for arbitration of other industries such as Intellectual Property, Construction and Sports, and many others.
