In Vitro Effect of Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) Seed Extracts as a Biological Acaricidal Against Some Hard Tick (Ixodidae) in Sulaimani Governorate - Kurdistan Region/Iraq
This study was conducted in Sulaimani governorate in order to identify the biological control of some Ixodidae genera among different flocks of cattle, sheep and goats. Four genera of Ixodidae; Boophilus spp., Hyalomma spp., Rhipicephalus spp. and Haemaphysalis spp., were identified in these infested animals. According to chi–square test, the highest distribution of Boophulis spp., was recorded in cattle (56.51%), and the highest distribution of Hyalomma spp., (49.82%) and Rhipicephalus spp., (28.16%) which were in sheep. The highest number of Haemophasylas spp., was obtained from goats (6.67%), whereas the lowest number of this genus (2.88% and 2.89%) was collected from cattle and sheep respectively. The toxicity of Sorghum bicolor seed extract was tested against the more distributed Ixodidae genera (Boophilus spp. and Hyalomma spp.) by immersion method on mature ticks, four concentrations (23.2, 17.4, 11.6 and 5.8 mg/dl), in addition to the control treatment (0 mg/dl) of the seed were used to evaluate the engorged females in vitro. The results showed that 100% of absolute cumulative mortality of Boophilus spp., was gain after 72 hr by 23.2 mg/dl extract concentration, followed by 17.4 mg/dl which gave 90% mortality, whereas 100% absolute cumulative mortality for Hyalomma spp., was obtained by 23.2 mg/dl extract concentration after 48 hr, followed by 17.4, 11.6 and 5.8 mg/dl concentration that gave 90%, 80% and 40% mortality after 72 hr
Parenting Challenge And Role Of Social Workers In Helping Diplomat Families: A Case Study In Saudi Arabia Embassy In Singapore
Diplomats sent to countries with significant social and cultural gaps from their home countries encounter numerous challenges. This study explores the role of social workers in facilitating the diplomatic mission of Saudi Arabia in Singapore to identify solutions for parenting challenges. The research questions include: What are the social challenges facing Saudi diplomat parents in raising their children? What are the cultural competencies and awareness factors for social workers when managing clients from Saudi Arabia? What is the role of social workers in helping the diplomat dependents to overcome the parenting challenges in Singapore? The study employs the multicultural approach and the social learning and ecological theories as its basis. The study is qualitative, and primary data are collected from 16 interviews, 2 focus group discussions, and 2 interviews with key informants (KIs). Analysis follows a deductive approach, using computer-aided thematic analysis. According to the findings, Saudi diplomats need professional help to cope with the challenges imposed by a foreign culture, including cultural shock, reverse cultural shock, and potential exposure to judicial procedures
Energy relaxation and triplet formation
We combined femtosecond (fs) VIS pump–IR probe spectroscopy with fs VIS
pump–supercontinuum probe spectroscopy to characterize the photoreaction of
the hexacoordinated Al(tpfc-Br8)(py)2 in a comprehensive way. Upon fs
excitation at ∼400 nm in the Soret band, the excitation energy relaxes with a
time constant of (250 ± 80) fs to the S2 and S1 electronic excited states.
This is evident from the rise time of the stimulated emission signal in the
visible spectral range. On the same time scale, narrowing of broad infrared
signals in the C=C stretching region around 1500 cm−1 is observed. Energy
redistribution processes are visible in the vibrational and electronic
dynamics with time constants between ∼2 ps and ∼20 ps. Triplet formation is
detected with a time constant of (95 ± 3) ps. This is tracked by the complete
loss of stimulated emission. Electronic transition of the emerging triplet
absorption band overlaps considerably with the singlet excited
stateabsorption. In contrast, two well separated vibrational marker bands for
triplet formation were identified at 1477 cm−1 and at 1508 cm−1. These marker
bands allow a precise identification of triplet dynamics in corrole systems
Elucidation of Longitudinally Grooved-Riblets Drag Reduction Performance using Pressure Drop Measurements
The need to determine affordable and environmentally friendly methods of reducing skin friction can be identified as one of the reasons contributing towards the study of the effectiveness of riblet shapes. Water tank experiments were carried out to optimize the shape and dimensions of microstructure grooves over a flat plate. The use of organized microstructures on channel walls is proposed to obtain lower values of pressure losses on smooth walls. Three shapes of microstructure grooves were investigated, with same groove height (600 μm) and five spacing dimensions (600, 750, 1000, 1500 μm), in water flows with velocities of up to 0.4 m/s. This was done for all selected types of riblet, which are fixed with the direction aligned with the flow. The experimental results showed that the size and shape of the riblets can massively incubate some of the turbulent structures formed on the surface and that will lead to a more controllable flow environment, which can result in drag reduction
Investigation of Noise Pollution of Electrical Diesel Generators in Duhok City/ Kurdistan of Iraq
The City of Duhok, Kurdistan region of Iraq, whilst has been subjected to persistent fast development and urbanization and expansion of economy, travel and tourism, it is still suffering from the shortage of public electricity supply since 1990. This leads to widely depending on diesel electricity generators. This study investigates diesel generators noise pollution in Duhok city. An empirical correlation formula was deduced for the mean noise level of 30 diesel generator sites as a function of distance for the 50 meters range, and then this correlation is extrapolated up to 80 m from the sites. The results showed that the measured mean noise level at 50 m from the generator sites was 74.86 dB(A) which is higher than the permissible noise level for residential and commercial areas that are 55 dB(A) and 65 dB(A) respectively, while it is near the industrial areas which equals 75 dB(A). On making the extrapolation to the empirical formula to compare distance up to 80 m from the sites, the extrapolated mean noise level reduced to 71.1 dB(A) which is still beyond the permissible noise level for residential and commercial areas
In situ redox reactions facilitate the assembly of a mixed-valence metal-organic nanocapsule
C-alkylpyrogallol[4]arenes (PgCs) have been studied for their ability to form metal-organic nanocapsules (MONCs) through coordination to appropriate metal ions. Here we present the synthesis and characterization of an MnII/MnIII-seamed MONC in addition to its electrochemical and magnetic behavior. This MONC assembles from 24 manganese ions and 6 PgCs, while an additional metal ion is located on the capsule interior, anchored through the introduction of bridging nitrite ions. The latter originate from an in situ redox reaction that occurs during the self-assembly process, thus representing a new route to otherwise unobtainable nanocapsules

Visual similarity effects on short-term memory for order: The case of verbally labeled pictorial stimuli
Four experiments examined the effect of visual similarity on immediate memory for order. Experiments 1 and 2 used easily nameable line drawings. Following a sequential presentation in either silent or suppression conditions, participants were presented with the drawings in a new, random order and were required to remember their original serial position. In Experiment 3, participants first learned to associate a verbal label with an abstract matrix pattern. Then they completed an immediate memory task in which they had to name the matrices aloud during presentation. At recall, the task required remembering either the order of the matrices or the order of their names. In Experiment 4, participants learned to associate nonword labels with schematic line drawings of faces; the phonemic similarity of the verbal labels was also manipulated. All four experiments indicate that the representations supporting performance comprise both verbal and visual features. The results are consistent with a multiattribute encoding view
