Considerações sobre possíveis irregularidades em produtos de origem animal

The commercialization of products of animal origin in Brazil, by virtue of specific legislation, is preceded by previous industrial and sanitary inspection. Such inspection is performed by the Federal Inspection Service in establishments that carry out interstate or international commerce; by the State Inspection Services in those that carry out inter-municipal trade; and by the Municipal Inspection Services in those that carry out local trade. Independently of this obligation, it is the exclusive responsibility of the establishments to assure the quality and appropriateness for consumption of the products elaborated by them, leaving to the public authority the prerogative to authorize the regular ones and prevent irregularities from reaching consumers’ table, punishing the offenders when it is the case. The operation started by the federal police called “weak meat”, had as scope the information that abattoirs would be marketing deteriorated or otherwise unsuitable for consuming beef, constituting a criminal process and with the participation of public agents responsible for Inspection in these establishments. The objective of this debate was to evaluate the possible circumstances that motivated the fact in the interpretation of the author, as a result of his technical knowledge as Veterinarian PhD in Veterinary Hygiene and Technological Processing of Animal Products, without considering official information for which it did not have access.A comercialização de produtos de origem animal no Brasil, por força de legislação específica, deve ser precedida de prévias inspeções industrial e sanitária, exercidas pelo Serviço de Inspeção Federal, nos estabelecimentos produtores que realizam comércio interestadual ou internacional, pelos Serviços de Inspeção Estaduais, naqueles que realizam comércio intermunicipal, ou pelos Serviços de Inspeção Municipais, nos que realizam comércio local. Independentemente desta obrigatoriedade, cabe exclusivamente aos estabelecimentos produtores a responsabilidade pela qualidade e propriedade para consumo dos produtos por elas elaborados, ficando o poder público com a prerrogativa de chancelar os regulares e impedir que os irregulares possam chegar a mesa dos consumidores, punindo os infratores quando for o caso. A operação deflagrada pela Polícia Federal denominada de “carne fraca” teve como escopo a informação de que frigoríficos estariam comercializando carne bovina deteriorada ou de outra forma imprópria para o consumo, o que se constitui um processo criminoso com a participação dos agentes públicos responsáveis pela inspeção nestes estabelecimentos. Medium and large-sized mammals of an isolated Atlantic Forest remnant, southeast São Paulo state, Brazil

The Area of Ecological Interest “Matão de Cosmopolis” is one of the few forest remnants larger than 100 hectares in the metropolitan region of Campinas, São Paulo State, Brazil. Medium and large-sized mammals were surveyed in this forest remnant using natural signs and active search between September 2008 and April 2009. Eighteen species belonging to seven different orders were recorded. Seven species of Order Carnivora were identified, two of which are listed as endangered in São Paulo State (Leopardus pardalis and Puma concolor). Cerdocyon thous, Sapajus nigritus and Canis familiaris had the highest frequency of occurrence. Results show the importance of AEIMC in regional context for mammal conservation. However, immediate actions for its conservation are required due to anthropogenic activities in the area

Além da tradição da representação e da virtualidade

Desde o começo da arquitetura ocidental, fundada no classicismo grego, o arquiteto não fez edifícios, mas produziu representações do edifício que possibilitaram sua construção. Assim, a separação histórica entre o ato de pensar e o de construir arquitetura, batizada por Mario Carpo de paradigma Albertiano, estabeleceu as bases do que entendemos hoje como projeto – uma atividade informacional cujos processos passariam a ser definidos por uma gama específica de tecnologias culturais e de mídia disponíveis em cada momento histórico. Uma vez estabelecida a reciprocidade entre representação e construção, os desdobramentos desse paradigma se estendem para além das representações gráficas, intervindo também na maneira de conceituar e de produzir arquitetura. Com a virada digital a partir dos anos 1990 e mais intensamente na década de 2010, a fusão entre artefatos de representação – concepção – construção em modelos digitais impõe métodos inteiramente novos à disciplina e o Paradigma Albertiano começa a retroceder depois de cinco séculos de hegemonia. Esse artigo procura apresentar as linhas gerais de três aspectos dessa síntese digital contemporânea: o fim da compressão de dados dos desenhos bidimensionais em favor dos modelos de informação (data models); a ampliação da janela perspéctica para a visualização imersiva da realidade virtual; e, a construção just-in-time, direto dos computadores para os braços robóticos

Vascular ring: a commonly overlooked cause of neonatal respiratory distressVascular ring: a commonly overlooked cause of neonatal respiratory distress

Objective: To report a case of a newborn with complete vascular ring caused by the right-sided aortic arch with retroesophageal left subclavian artery and Kommerell diverticulum. Case Report: A preterm newborn female (36 weeks 3 days) with low birth weight (1670 g) was delivered by cesarean section, with Apgar scores of 7/8. Physical examination revealed dyspnea, cyanosis, and inspiratory stridor with systolic murmur (2/6 grade) at the left upper sternal border. She was transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit, with improvement in her cyanosis and respiratory distress, immediately after orotracheal intubation. Chest X-ray demonstrated mediastinal enlargement with a right-sided aortic arch. The transthoracic echocardiogram showed situs solitus, levocardia, foramen ovale, tortuous and right-sided aortic arch, enlarged ascending aorta, large patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), left-to-right shunt at atrial septal and PDA levels, and Doppler signs of right pulmonary artery flow obstruction probably caused by vascular compression. Angiotomography confirmed the vascular ring and detailed his obstruction anatomy: the right-sided aortic arch with the retroesophageal left subclavian artery arising from the Kommerell diverticulum and left-sided PDA. The anomalous left subclavian artery caused the tracheo-esophageal, right pulmonary artery, and right bronchus compression. The left-sided large PDA completed the vascular ring and its combination caused early symptoms. Conclusion: Vascular ring it’s a congenital malformation that should be suspected in all patients associated with aortic arch anomaly presenting with respiratory symptoms (dyspnea/inspiratory stridor and/or chronic sibilance).Objetivo: Relatar o caso de um recém-nascido com anel vascular completo causado por artéria subclávia esquerda retroesofágica em arco aórtico à direita, associado a um divertículo de Kommerell. Relato de Caso: Paciente do gênero feminino, prematuro (36 semanas e 3 dias), baixo peso (1670g), nasceu de parto via cesária e com Apgar 7/8. Ao exame físico notava-se dispneia, cianose, estridor inspiratório e sopro sistólico (2/6) em borda esternal esquerda alta. A paciente foi levada para unidade de terapia intensiva neonatal com melhora imediata do padrão respiratório e da cianose após intubação orotraqueal. A radiografia de tórax demonstrou alargamento do mediastino e arco aórtico à direita. O ecocardiograma transtorácico evidenciou: forame oval pérvio, arco aórtico à direita e tortuoso, dilatação da aorta ascendente, canal arterial pérvio grande, shunt esquerda-direita pelo septo interatrial e canal arterial e sinais de obstrução ao fluxo da artéria pulmonar direita por provável compressão vascular. A angiotomografia confirmou o anel vascular e esclareceu sua anatomia: arco aórtico à direita com artéria subclávia esquerda retroesofágica originando-se de um divertículo (Kommerell) associada à um canal arterial patente à esquerda. A artéria subclávia esquerda anômala ocasionava compressão extrínseca esofagotraqueal, do fluxo da artéria pulmonar direita e do brônquio fonte à direita. À esquerda, o grande canal arterial patente completava o anel vascular, o que ocasionou sintomas precoces. Conclusões: O anel vascular é uma malformação congênita que deve ser suspeitada em todos os pacientes com anomalias do arco aórtico que apresentam sintomas respiratórios (dispneia/estridor inspiratório e/ou sibilância crônica)

Land-use changes lead to functional loss of terrestrial mammals in a Neotropical rainforest

Land-use changes are a main driver of modifications in tropical ecosystems, leading to the loss of species and ecological traits and affecting key ecological functions. Although much attention has been given to predict the effects of species loss on ecological processes, information on the large-scale effects of land-use changes over ecological functions is scarce. Here, we detected erosion in the prevalence of ecological functions performed by mammals in response to land-use changes in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. By analyzing the loss of different ecological functions (vertebrate and invertebrate predation, seed dispersal, seed depredation, herbivory) performed by mammal assemblages in a deforestation gradient, we observed that vulnerable functions (performed by sensitive species, such as browsing, seed depredation, medium and large vertebrate predation) were positively related to patch size and forest cover and negatively related to anthropogenic cover. These relationships were reversed for persistent functions (performed by resilient species, such as grazing, small seed dispersal, small vertebrate and invertebrate predation). Vulnerable functions were virtually restricted to large forest remnants, while persistent functions were prevalent in human-modified landscapes. Disturbed forests are not necessarily empty of mammal species, but there is a substantial loss of ecological functions across most of the Atlantic Forest. Five out of ten ecological functions lose prevalence in small forest remnants. Nonetheless, these small remnants serve as refuges for the remaining biodiversity and are on the verge of the functional extinction of important processes. AtGRP3 is implicated in root size and aluminum response pathways in Arabidopsis

AtGRP3 is a glycine-rich protein (GRP) from Arabidopsis thaliana shown to interact with the receptor-like kinase AtWAK1 in yeast, in vitro and in planta. In this work, phenotypic analyses using transgenic plants were performed in order to better characterize this GRP. Plants of two independent knockout alleles of AtGRP3 develop longer roots suggesting its involvement in root size determination. Confocal microscopy analysis showed an abnormal cell division and elongation in grp3-1 knockout mutants. Moreover, we also show that grp3-1 exhibits an enhanced Aluminum (Al) tolerance, a feature also described in AtWAK1 overexpressing plants. Together, these results implicate AtGRP3 function root size determination during development and in Al stress

NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES: a data set on carnivore distribution in the Neotropics

Incluye contenido parcial de los autoresAbstract.Mammalian carnivores are considered a key group in maintaining ecologicalhealth and can indicate potential ecological integrity in landscapes where they occur. Carni-vores also hold high conservation value and their habitat requirements can guide managementand conservation plans. The order Carnivora has 84 species from 8 families in the Neotropicalregion: Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Otariidae; Phocidae; Procyonidae; andUrsidae. Herein, we include published and unpublished data on native terrestrial Neotropicalcarnivores (Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae). NEOTRO-PICAL CARNIVORES is a publicly available data set that includes 99,605 data entries from35,511 unique georeferenced coordinates. Detection/non-detection and quantitative data wereobtained from 1818 to 2018 by researchers, governmental agencies, non-governmental organi-zations, and private consultants. Data were collected using several methods including cameratrapping, museum collections, roadkill, line transect, and opportunistic records. Literature(peer-reviewed and grey literature) from Portuguese, Spanish and English were incorporated inthis compilation. Most of the data set consists of detection data entries (n=79,343; 79.7%) butalso includes non-detection data (n=20,262; 20.3%). Of those, 43.3% also include count data(n=43,151). The information available in NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES will contribute tomacroecological, ecological, and conservation questions in multiple spatio-temporal perspec-tives. As carnivores play key roles in trophic interactions, a better understanding of their distri-bution and habitat requirements are essential to establish conservation management plans andsafeguard the future ecological health of Neotropical ecosystems. Our data paper, combinedwith other large-scale data sets, has great potential to clarify species distribution and relatedecological processes within the Neotropics. There are no copyright restrictions and no restric-tion for using data from this data paper, as long as the data paper is cited as the source of theinformation used.
