Seed viability of pigeon pea stored in two environments.

    Get PDF
Pigeonpea cv. ICP-1, -26, -2624, -6443 and -6997 were stored at 15-20 deg C and RH and compared with ambient room conditions at ICRISAT. After 4 yr in cool storage the viability of all cv. except ICP-6997 remained >92%. At room temp. ICP-6997 lost viability completely, ICP-2624 maintained 53% viability and ICP-26, -1 and -6443 germinated 44, 24 and 4%, resp. Plastic bottles were the best containers at ambient room temp. and in cool storage no difference was detected between them and paper and cloth bags. Commissioning of the 400 MHz LHC RF System

    Get PDF
The installation of the 400 MHz superconducting RF system in LHC is finished and commissioning is under way. The final RF system comprises four cryo-modules each with four cavities in the LHC tunnel straight section round IP4. Also underground in an adjacent cavern shielded from the main tunnel are the sixteen 300 kW klystron RF power sources with their high voltage bunkers, two Faraday cages containing RF feedback and beam control electronics, and racks containing all the slow controls. The system and the experience gained during commissioning will be described. In particular, results from conditioning the cavities and their movable main power couplers and the setting up of the low level RF feedbacks will be presented

Stationary and Recurrent Properties of Atrial Fibrillation Conduction Patterns in Goat

    Get PDF
Introduction. Electrical mapping of the atria is used to assess the substrate of atrial fibrillation (AF). Targeted ablation of the AF substrate assumes spatiotemporal stationarity. In this study we analyzed long AF recordings of AF using high-density contact mapping.Methods. In 12 goats with stable AF 10 successive 60s files were recorded, within a single AF episode. AF cycle length, fractionation index (FI), lateral dissociation, conduction velocity, breakthroughs and preferentiality of conduction (Prefi were assessed to construct AF-property maps. The Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) between AF-property maps of consecutive recordings was calculated. Recurrence plots and recurrence quantification analysis were used to identify recurrent patterns. Results Spatiotemporal stationarity for the 6 properties were high, PCC ranged from 0.66 +/- 0.11 for Pref to 0.98 +/- 0.01 for FI. The PCC is not affected by the time delay between files. Yet, highly dynamic patterns were found. Recurrence plots revealed few (1.6 +/- 0.7) recurrent patterns in individual animals. Conclusions AF properties were stationary in stable AF. This cannot be attributed to stable recurrent conduction patterns. during This suggests that spatial properties of the atrium determine AF properties

Use made of wild legume relatives in breeding

Presently vast genetic resources are available for improvement of the main crops used by humans and animals. The ex-situ collections safeguard those resources collected in the past, although not all collections are safe even today as far as personnel and facilities are concerned. Use of in-situ collections is feasible but meeting with obstacles. Free accessibility is not as straightforward as has been in the past. Apart from the cultivated accessions of crops, wild relatives have always attracted breeders, for these contril?ute many useful traits. Their genetic background, particularly of species in the secondary or tertiary genepool, makes transfer difficult requiring new techniques to effectuate gene transfers. There have been many attempts and evaluation and conservation of wild relatives is usually a task taken up by most genebanks. Genetic modification, the modem way of transferring wanted genes, has barely begun for the legume food crops. This paper presents some examples of successful use made of wild relatives of chickpea, pigeonpea, fababean and lentil for breeding ) during the past decennia

Inheritance of some qualitative characters in chickpea (Geer arietinum L.)

    Get PDF
Inheritance of eight morphological characters, namely, prostrate growth habit; narrow, bicompound and simple leaves; purple and light green foliage colours; light blue corolla and green seed coat colour, was studied. AU the traits except the light blue corolla showed monofactorial recessive inheritance, while the light blue corolla involved interaction of two recessive factors. Joint segregations of narrow leaf and double-flowered peduncle and simple leaf and light blue corolla were studied, and in both cases no linkage was detected

Strange nuclear matter within Brueckner-Hartree-Fock Theory

    Get PDF
We have developed a formalism for microscopic Brueckner-type calculations of dense nuclear matter that includes all types of baryon-baryon interactions and allows to treat any asymmetry on the fractions of the different species (n, p, Λ\Lambda, Σ0\Sigma^0, Σ+\Sigma^+, Σ\Sigma^-, Ξ\Xi^- and Ξ0\Xi^0). We present results for the different single-particle potentials focussing on situations that can be relevant in future microscopic studies of beta-stable neutron star matter with strangeness. We find the both the hyperon-nucleon and hyperon-hyperon interactions play a non-negligible role in determining the chemical potentials of the different species.Comment: 36 pages, LateX, includes 8 PostScript figures, (submitted to PRC

First Beam Commissioning of the 400 MHz LHC RF System

    Get PDF
Hardware commissioning of the LHC RF system was successfully completed in time for first beams in LHC in September 2008. All cavities ware conditioned to nominal field, power systems tested and all Low level synchronization systems, cavity controllers and beam control electronics were tested and calibrated. Beam was successfully captured in ring 2, cavities phased, and a number of initial measurements made. These results are presented and tests and preparation for colliding beams in 2009 are outlined
