The quark induced Mueller-Tang jet impact factor at next-to-leading order

    Get PDF
We present the NLO corrections for the quark induced forward production of a jet with an associated rapidity gap. We make use of Lipatov's QCD high energy effective action to calculate the real emission contributions to the so-called Mueller-Tang impact factor. We combine them with the previously calculated virtual corrections and verify ultraviolet and collinear finiteness of the final result.Comment: 29 pages, many figure

SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS (SMPS) AS SUPPLEMENTAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES IN ENGLISH

    Get PDF
This study determines the accessibility level and benefits of Social Media Platforms (SMPs) as supplements for students’ learning opportunities in the new normal.  A Mixed method was utilized. The participants of the study were the randomly selected fifty (50) Grade 10 students. Data were gathered using a survey questionnaire. Results revealed that SMPs are accessible in terms of the availability of gadgets, internet connectivity, and time. Respondents accessed SMPs using their mobile phones and laptops and spent more than 8 hours accessing SMPs using mobile data connections. Respondents always use Facebook and Messenger, often use YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, and sometimes use other SMPs. They considered SMPs significant, effective, and beneficial in accessing learning opportunities such as updated with their assignments, learning tasks, announcements, and supplementary materials.  The accessibility level implies that students are digitally equipped with knowledge in using the platforms and this shows possibilities of using SMPs in the new normal. It is recommended that SMPs be utilized in crafting activities in New Normal English Program to supplement learning opportunities among students while properly monitored and regulated by parents and teachers. Future studies may look into the use of SMPs in various levels of literacy and educational contexts

The next-to-leading order vertex for a forward jet plus a rapidity gap at high energies

    Get PDF
We present the results for the calculation of the forward jet vertex associated to a rapidity gap (coupling of a hard pomeron to the jet) in the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) formalism at next-to-leading order (NLO). We handle the real emission contributions making use of the high energy effective action proposed by Lipatov, valid for multi-Regge and quasi-multi-Regge kinematics. This result is important since it allows, together with the NLO non-forward gluon Green function, to perform NLO studies of jet production in diffractive events (Mueller-Tang dijets, as a well-known example).Comment: 12 pages, some figure

Health in my community: Conducting and evaluating photovoice as a tool to promote environmental health and leadership among Latino/a youth

    Get PDF
BackgroundThe PhotoVoice method has shown substantial promise for work with youth in metropolitan areas, yet its potential for use with Latino youth from agricultural areas has not been well documented.ObjectivesThis project was designed to teach environmental health to 15 high school youth while building their individual and community capacity for studying and addressing shared environmental concerns. The project also aimed to test the utility of PhotoVoice with Latino agricultural youth.MethodsFifteen members of the Youth Community Council (YCC), part of a 15-year project with farmworker families in Salinas, CA, took part in a 12-week PhotoVoice project. Their pictures captured the assets and strengths of their community related to environmental health, and were then analyzed by participants. A multi-pronged evaluation was conducted.ResultsYCC members identified concerns such as poor access to affordable, healthy foods and lack of safe physical spaces in which to play, as well as assets, including caring adults and organizations, and open spaces in surrounding areas. Participants presented their findings on radio, television, at local community events, and to key policy makers. The youth also developed two action plans, a successful 5K run/walk and a school recycling project, still in progress. Evaluation results included significant changes in such areas as perceived ability to make presentations, leadership, and self-confidence, as well as challenges including transportation, group dynamics, and gaining access to people in power.ConclusionThe PhotoVoice method shows promise for environmental health education and youth development in farmworker communities

Novel alleles of the Transforming Growth Factor β-1 promoter and exon 1

    Get PDF
Transforming growth factor β-1, encoded by the TGFB1 gene, is a cytokine that plays a central role in many physiologic and pathogenic processes, having pleiotropic effects on cell proliferation, differentiation, migration and survival. Regulatory activity for this gene has been demonstrated for approximately 3.0 kb between positions -2,665 and +423 from its translational start site. This region includes two promoter sites, two negative regulatory elements and two enhancers, in addition to part of the protein’s signal peptide. An important amount of polymorphism has been reported for this gene, including 17 promoter and exon 1 alleles defined on the basis or 18 polymorphisms . Polymorphism in TGFB1 has been associated to differential levels of expression of this cytokine and to genetic risk in cancer and hematopoietic stem cell (HSCT) and organ transplantation. In this report, we extend this list by presenting novel alleles formed by new polymorphic positions and a new combination of the previously described polymorphisms. These novel alleles have been found during the typing of a cohort of unrelated haematopoietic stem cell transplantation patient-donor pairs, and of healthy volunteer donors

Influencia de los indicadores no financieros en el desempeño financiero de las PYMES – un estudio de caso

    Get PDF
This work consists in a case study developed in the SBC, Lda. The main objective of this study was to analyse the financial and non-financial factors that influence the company's financial performance as measured by return on equity. Using robust regression with the software R it was verified that the change in turnover, customer satisfaction and financial autonomy are positively correlated and statistically significant for a 10% significance level, so it follows that the non financial indicators also may contribute to financial performance

Dynamic Companion Harmonic Circuit Models for Analysis of Power Systems with Embedded Power Electronics Devices

    Get PDF
In this paper a methodology that extends the dynamic harmonic domain (DHD) analysis of large networks is presented. The method combines DHD analysis and discrete companion circuit modeling resulting in a powerful analytic technique called dynamic companion harmonic circuit modeling. It provides for a complete dynamic harmonic analysis of the system while preserving the advantages of discrete companion circuit models. The methodology is illustrated by its application to a three-node power system, where reactive power compensation is achieved using a fixed-capacitor, thyristor-controlled reactor (FC-TCR) and its control system

Cavernous hemangioma of the parotid gland in adults

    Get PDF
Hemangiomas account for 0.4-0.6% of all tumors of the parotid gland and most of them occur in children, never - theless in adults hemangiomas are very rare. We report the case of a 62 year old woman with a mass in the parotid right tail associated with fluctuating swelling episodes unrelated to meals and with a slowly progressive growth. The provisional diagnosis was a pleomorphic adenoma, so a right superficial parotidectomy was performed. During surgery, the macroscopic appearance makes suspect a vascular lesion. The histopathological result was a cavernous hemangioma. The classic clinical presentation of a parotid hemangioma is an intraglandular mass associated or not with skin lesions characterized by reddish macules and/or papules, and a vibration or pulsation when palpating the parotid region. In imaging tests, phleboliths could be observed which are very suggestive of a hemangioma or a vascular malformation. In the absence of these signs, the diagnosis could be difficult, particularly in an adult due to its low prevalence, with about 50 cases reported worldwide. However a hemangioma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of parotid tumors in adults
