The muon anomalous magnetic moment in QED: three-loop electron and tau contributions

    Get PDF
We present an analytic calculation of electron and tau O(alpha^3) loop effects on the muon anomalous magnetic moment. Computation of such three-loop diagrams with three mass scales is possible using asymptotic and eikonal expansions. An evaluation of a new type of eikonal integrals is presented in some detail.Comment: 9 pages, late

    Heavy-to-light decays with a two-loop accuracy

We present a determination of a new class of three-loop Feynman diagrams describing heavy-to-light transitions. We apply it to find the O(alpha_s^2) corrections to the top quark decay t -> bW and to the distribution of lepton invariant mass in the semileptonic b quark decay b -> ul\nu. We also confirm the previously determined total rate of that process as well as the O(alpha^2) corrections to the muon lifetime.Comment: 5 page

Modern movement in architecture of the twentieth century image diverse in terms of trends and tendencies and also consistent in terms of characteristics and evaluation criteria. So assumption is aimed at:– Separation of the main directions of modernism with an emphasis on diversity of forms and spatial systems;– Demonstrate common features ideological, artistic, stylish – allow for a holistic treatment of Modernism as a movement with the characteristics of the architectural style. These assumptions should be regarded as crucial to the prospects for the protection of post-war modernist architecture. Many pre-war buildings listed in the register of monuments and in the municipal records for. Numerous studies over the interwar modernism facilitate assessment of the value, to determine the characteristics and restoration of this architecture. Most of the realization of being an example of post-war modernism is not protected, functioning in the collective consciousness as objects too contemporary to treat them as historical monuments. Their ideological characteristics, formal, functional and technological – are not often used in so far classification and valuation of objects recommended for protection. The article is an attempt to summarize the objects typical of selected trends of the inter-war period realizations depicting post-war trends of modern architecture in order to show that modernism was a movement that should be treated holistically as stylistically consistent, time-limited period of twentieth century architecture.

PURPOSE: The aim of the article is to verify a hypothesis stating that financial security of companies has been significantly violated in the scope of economic crisis caused by COVID19 pandemics. It has been assumed that traditional indicators of financial liquidity have declined and establishing the scale of the phenomenon constitutes a scientific problem.DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: The research has been conducted as exemplified by a given sector: consumer goods and retail trade on the basis of data adapted from EMIS database. The research has regarded years 2018-2021. Statistical characteristics of two features have been used: current ratio indicator and quick ratio indicator, determining the location, spread, asymmetry and flattening characteristics. The analysis constructed in such a multidimension way was to enable a proper verification of the hypothesis stated.FINDINGS: The results of the research has not verified the research hypothesis positively: the companies of a given sector had not compounded, and even improved their financial security measured with the use of traditional liquidity indicators.PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: The conducted research regarding the liquidity management in companies in a extraordinary time od crisis emphasizes the multifaceted nature and complexity of issues connected with financial security; simultaneously discussing the statement that the entrepreneurs’ concern over the extending period of uncertainty, lead them to a certain mobilization to secure from lack of liquidity and forced more awareness in the topic of liquidity.ORIGINALITY/VALUE: In the process of data analysis certain characteristic features were observed: the average indicators in the sector are much higher than middle indicators which indicates the need to have a closer look at average data. In a researched sector most of the enterprises does not achieve the results suggested for liquidity indicators.peer-reviewe

Abstract Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated lipodystrophy syndrome (LS) is defined as a redistribution of adipose tissue, metabolic and endocrine abnormalities, resulting from combined antiretroviral therapy (cART). Aim of this study was to evaluate LS in HIV-infected patients from Lower Silesia, Poland

Vergence eye movements in bipolar disorder

    Get PDF
Aim. With respect to bipolar disorder (BD), previous research have demonstrated saccadic eye movements abnormalities, manifested mainly as an increase in reaction time (latency) in both prosaccadic and antisaccadic task. So far, there were no studies related to vergence eye movements in subjects with BD. Our primary aim was to evaluate vergence tracking performance in this clinical group.  Methods. 30 patients with BD in remission and 23 healthy controls were enrolled. Subjects underwent optometric examination where near point of convergence was measured by the use of Wolff Wand. Instrumented convergence measurements were performed using infrared eye tracker and dedicated vergence stimuli generator. Results. BD patients presented significantly higher average error between eyes’ convergence and convergence required to fixate the target and higher number of saccadic intrusions compared with healthy controls group. Principal component analysis performed on oculometric parameters revealed differences between BD patients and healthy controls. Significant correlations between the vergence disturbances and saccadic intrusions were found. Conclusions. BD patients showed the alterations of the vergence eye movements similar to the disturbances of eye movements in the fronto-parallel plane. While the abnormalities of vergence eye movements in some mental disorders have been reported, we have for the first time objectively measured this phenomenon in BD

Effect of natalizumab on disease progression in secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (ASCEND). a phase 3, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with an open-label extension

Background: Although several disease-modifying treatments are available for relapsing multiple sclerosis, treatment effects have been more modest in progressive multiple sclerosis and have been observed particularly in actively relapsing subgroups or those with lesion activity on imaging. We sought to assess whether natalizumab slows disease progression in secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, independent of relapses. Methods: ASCEND was a phase 3, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (part 1) with an optional 2 year open-label extension (part 2). Enrolled patients aged 18–58 years were natalizumab-naive and had secondary progressive multiple sclerosis for 2 years or more, disability progression unrelated to relapses in the previous year, and Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) scores of 3·0–6·5. In part 1, patients from 163 sites in 17 countries were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive 300 mg intravenous natalizumab or placebo every 4 weeks for 2 years. Patients were stratified by site and by EDSS score (3·0–5·5 vs 6·0–6·5). Patients completing part 1 could enrol in part 2, in which all patients received natalizumab every 4 weeks until the end of the study. Throughout both parts, patients and staff were masked to the treatment received in part 1. The primary outcome in part 1 was the proportion of patients with sustained disability progression, assessed by one or more of three measures: the EDSS, Timed 25-Foot Walk (T25FW), and 9-Hole Peg Test (9HPT). The primary outcome in part 2 was the incidence of adverse events and serious adverse events. Efficacy and safety analyses were done in the intention-to-treat population. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT01416181. Findings: Between Sept 13, 2011, and July 16, 2015, 889 patients were randomly assigned (n=440 to the natalizumab group, n=449 to the placebo group). In part 1, 195 (44%) of 439 natalizumab-treated patients and 214 (48%) of 448 placebo-treated patients had confirmed disability progression (odds ratio [OR] 0·86; 95% CI 0·66–1·13; p=0·287). No treatment effect was observed on the EDSS (OR 1·06, 95% CI 0·74–1·53; nominal p=0·753) or the T25FW (0·98, 0·74–1·30; nominal p=0·914) components of the primary outcome. However, natalizumab treatment reduced 9HPT progression (OR 0·56, 95% CI 0·40–0·80; nominal p=0·001). In part 1, 100 (22%) placebo-treated and 90 (20%) natalizumab-treated patients had serious adverse events. In part 2, 291 natalizumab-continuing patients and 274 natalizumab-naive patients received natalizumab (median follow-up 160 weeks [range 108–221]). Serious adverse events occurred in 39 (13%) patients continuing natalizumab and in 24 (9%) patients initiating natalizumab. Two deaths occurred in part 1, neither of which was considered related to study treatment. No progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy occurred. Interpretation: Natalizumab treatment for secondary progressive multiple sclerosis did not reduce progression on the primary multicomponent disability endpoint in part 1, but it did reduce progression on its upper-limb component. Longer-term trials are needed to assess whether treatment of secondary progressive multiple sclerosis might produce benefits on additional disability components. Funding: Biogen
