The electrum analyzer: Model checking relational first-order temporal specifications
This paper presents the Electrum Analyzer, a free-software tool to validate and perform model checking of Electrum specifications. Electrum is an extension of Alloy that enriches its relational logic with LTL operators, thus simplifying the specification of dynamic systems. The Analyzer supports both automatic bounded model checking, with an encoding into SAT, and unbounded model checking, with an encoding into SMV. Instance, or counter-example, traces are presented back to the user in a unified visualizer. Features to speed up model checking are offered, including a decomposed parallel solving strategy and the extraction of symbolic bounds. Functional performance according to gestational age and birth weight of preschool children born premature or with low weight
Premature labour is a major health problem.Besides medical factors, risk factors include lowersocial class, less education, single marital status, low income younger maternal age, low body weight, ethnicity, smoking, poor housing. The long termsequelae can be severe and the cost - financiallyand socially - of care is high. Preterm birth is indeeda major clinical public heath problem that accountsfor nearly 50% of all neonatal deaths

Understanding the impact of newborn touch upon mothers of hospitalized preterm neonates.
Many interventions have been designed to support the development of the preterm baby and minimise the complications of prematurity. However, there is limited evidence of the possible psychological benefits of touch to the mother when she is the one performing the support programme during the hospitalisation of her newborn. This study explored whether the type of touch provided to preterm neonates had an impact on maternal self-efficacy, self-esteem and maternal-to-infant attachment, as-well-as newborn weight gain. Using a randomised cluster trial, forty babies and their mothers were allocated to one of two groups receiving either a touch-based intervention (TAC-TIC; Touching And Caressing; Tender In Caring) or spontaneous touch. Mothers who provided the touch-based intervention demonstrated greater increases in self-efficacy, self-esteem and attachment, and babies gained more weight than those using spontaneous touch. The results indicate that systematic touch interventions may be used to facilitate the mother-baby relationship as well as to promote newborn weight gain
Validating the hybrid ERTMS/ETCS level 3 concept with electrum
This paper reports on the development of a formal model for the Hybrid ERTMS/ETCS Level 3 concept in Electrum, a lightweight formal specification language that extends Alloy with mutable relations and temporal logic operators. We show how Electrum and its Analyzer can be used to perform scenario exploration to validate this model, namely to check that all the example operational scenarios described in the reference document are admissible, and to reason about expected safety properties, which can be easily specified and model checked for arbitrary track configurations. The Analyzer depicts scenarios (and counter-examples) in a graphical notation that is logic-agnostic, making them understandable for stakeholders without expertise in formal specification.- Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia(POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016826); ERDF - European Regional Development Fund through the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalisation - COMPETE 2020 and by National Funds through the Portuguese funding agenc
Weighted automata as coalgebras in categories of matrices
The evolution from non-deterministic to weighted automata represents a shift from qual- itative to quantitative methods in computer science. The trend calls for a language able to reconcile quantitative reasoning with formal logic and set theory, which have for so many years supported qualitative reasoning. Such a lingua franca should be typed, poly- morphic, diagrammatic, calculational and easy to blend with conventional notation.
This paper puts forward typed linear algebra as a candidate notation for such a unifying role. This notation, which emerges from regarding matrices as morphisms of suitable categories, is put at work in describing weighted automata as coalgebras in such categories.
Some attention is paid to the interface between the index-free (categorial) language of matrix algebra and the corresponding index-wise, set-theoretic notation.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT
Intestinal transplantation under tacrolimus monotherapy after perioperative lymphoid depletion with rabbit anti-thymocyte globulin (thymoglobulin®)
Modifications in the timing and dosage of immunosuppression can ameliorate the morbidity and mortality that has prevented widespread use of intestinal transplantation (ITx) in children. Thirty-six patients receiving ITx, aged 5 months to 20 years were given 2-3 mg(kg of rabbit anti-thymocyte globulin (rATG, thymoglobulin®) just before ITx, and 2-3 mg(kg post-operatively (total 5 mg(kg). Twice daily doses of tacrolimus (TAC) were begun enterally within 24 h after graft reperfusion with reduction of dose quantity or frequency after 3 months. Prednisone or other agents were given to treat breakthrough rejection. After 8-28 months follow-up (mean 15.8 ± 5.3), 1- and 2-year patient and graft survival is 100% and 94%, respectively. Despite a 44% incidence of acute rejection in the first month, 16 of the 34 (47%) survivors are on TAC (n = 14) or sirolimus (n = 2) monotherapy; 15 receive TAC plus low dose prednisone; one each receive TAC plus sirolimus, TAC plus azathioprine and TAC plus sirolimus and prednisone. There was a low incidence of immunosuppression-related complications. This strategy of immunosuppression minimized maintenance TAC exposure, facilitated the long-term control of rejection, decreased the incidence of opportunistic infections, and resulted in a high rate of patient and graft survival. Mercapturate Pathway in the Tubulocentric Perspective of Diabetic Kidney Disease
BACKGROUND: The recent growing evidence that the proximal tubule underlies the
early pathogenesis of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is unveiling novel and
promising perspectives. This pathophysiological concept links tubulointerstitial
oxidative stress, inflammation, hypoxia, and fibrosis with the progression of
DKD. In this new angle for DKD, the prevailing molecular mechanisms on proximal
tubular cells emerge as an innovative opportunity for prevention and management
of DKD as well as to improve diabetic dysmetabolism.
SUMMARY: The mercapturate pathway (MAP) is a classical metabolic detoxification
route for xenobiotics that is emerging as an integrative circuitry detrimental to
resolve tubular inflammation caused by endogenous electrophilic species. Herein
we review why and how it might underlie DKD. Key Messages: MAP is a hallmark of
proximal tubular cell function, and cysteine-S-conjugates might represent targets
for early intervention in DKD. Moreover, the biomonitoring of urinary
mercapturates from metabolic inflammation products might be relevant for the
implementation of preventive/management strategies in DKD.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
