Inelastic Hadron Diffraction in High Energy Elastic Scattering of Nuclei

    Get PDF
The r\^{o}le of inelastic diffraction in elastic scattering of nuclei is studied in the formalism of \emph{diffractive limit}. The results obtained for scattering of the α\alpha--particles on light nuclei show that the nucleonic diffraction is especially important at large momentum transfers where the Glauber model of geometric diffraction fails.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure (in eps) talk given at XXXI International Symposium on Multiparticle Dynamics, Sep. 1-7, 2001, Datong China URL http://ismd31.ccnu.edu.cn

The article is dedicated to the investigation of the concept FEAR in theUkrai nian language mapping. Semantic constituents and the general structure of the concept have been determined on the basis of the linguistic material; the principles of cognitive linguistics and cognitive defi nition have been taken into account.Cтаття присвячена дослідженню концепту СТРАХ в українській мовній картині світу. Concepts in human consciousness are described by means of such features as traditions, customs, special stereotypes of thinking, behavior models, emotions, etc. The present article focuses on the attempt to analyse the linguistic realization of the concept of “Russia” based on the sphere of Ukrainian-Russian relations presented in Ukrainian mass media.Koncepty w ludzkiej świadomości są odzwierciedlane poprzez pryzmat tradycji, przyzwyczajeń, stereotypów, modeli zachowania, emocji, itd. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę analizy językowej kreacji konceptu „Rosja” w odniesieniu do wzajemnych relacji na linii Ukraina-Rosja zaprezentowanych w ukraińskojęzycznych środkach masowego przekazu.Concepts in human consciousness are described by means of such features as traditions, customs, special stereotypes of thinking, behavior models, emotions, etc. The present article focuses on the attempt to analyse the linguistic realization of the concept of “Russia” based on the sphere of Ukrainian-Russian relations presented in Ukrainian mass media

Poznań School of Public Finance was created in 1919 by professor Edward Taylor, a member of the Law and Economy Faculty of the Poznan´ University, and a mentor and moral role model for thousands of Polish lawyers and economists that followed. For political reasons, for fifty years after World War II, the research work of the Department of Financial Law of the University’s Law and Economy Faculty concentrated on budget laws. In that period Poznan´ became a leading research centre specialising in state and local finance in Poland. The paper presents selected dissertations of the researchers from the Department of Financial Law, devoted to the pioneering aspects of the budget period and long-term financial planning

OUTFLOW OF THE BIOGENIC SUBSTANCES IN THE DRAINAGE AREA OF SŁAWSKIE LAKE

    Get PDF
The intent of the author is to familiarize the readers with the results of the research on the anthropogenic eutrophication of the Sławskie Lake where it is impossible or difficult to apply technical measures preventing the pollution. It is a shallow, eutrophic lake where, the structure and functioning – especially the accessibility of easily assimilated biogenic compounds, especially the phosphorus – depends significantly of the fate and speed of decay of the organic matter brought to that ecosystem from the drainage area. For the last several years observed was (in that researched lake) strong blossoming of algae and cyanosis constituting the proof of its periodically sudden eutrophication. A proper description of the volume of the area pollution and determination of the outflow indicators for the water transferring lakes is difficult because the volume of the outflow of the wastes is influenced not only by their diversified contents – being the result of the combination of individual components in varying proportions – but also their influence as a result of certain local conditions. Thus, the results obtained by different authors show big differences and even discrepancies. On the basis of the conducted research it was determined that the most adequate relation (with a similar character of the area) is for the researched drainage area the one between the load of the biogenes and the volume of the indicators of their unit outflow

Accelerating retreat and high-elevation thinning of glaciers in central Spitsbergen

Svalbard is a heavily glacier-covered archipelago in the Arctic. Dickson Land (DL), in the central part of the largest island, Spitsbergen, is relatively arid, and as a result, glaciers there are relatively small and restricted mostly to valleys and cirques. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of glacier changes in DL based on inventories compiled from topographic maps and digital elevation models for the Little Ice Age maximum (LIA), the 1960s, 1990 and 2009/11. Total glacier area decreased by ~38 % since the LIA maximum, and front retreat has increased over the study period. Recently, most of the local glaciers have been consistently thinning in all elevation bands, in contrast to larger Svalbard ice masses which remain closer to balance. The mean 1990–2009/11 geodetic mass balance of glaciers in DL is among the most negative from the Svalbard regional means known from the literature

Pragmatist Aesthetics, the New Literacy, and Popular Culture. A Response to Stefán Snævarr

    Get PDF
The article is a critical response to Stefán Snævarr’s “Pragmatism and Popular Culture: Shusterman, Popular Art, and the Challenge of Visuality.”In its first part, I attempt to prove that several of Snævarr’s claims about popular culture and new media, which form the basic premises of his diagnosis of the alleged intellectual decline of the West, are either dubious or wrong. Moreover, in the context of this diagnosis, Snævarr levels some serious accusations against Richard Shusterman’s theory of popular culture, which, I believe, are ungrounded and do not do justice to the latter’s approach. Henceforth, the remainder of the article is devoted to explaining in which aspects Snævarr’s interpretation of Richard Shusterman’s theory is misguided
