La recepción de El Quijote y otras obras de Cervantes en China: traducciones, imitaciones, adaptaciones.

La presente Tesis Doctoral pretende dar a conocer la repercusión que El Quijote, la gran obra de Miguel de Cervantes, tuvo y tiene en un país tan alejado espacial y culturalmente de España como es China, sin dejar de atender al resto de títulos que conforma el corpus cervantino. De esta manera, y siempre teniendo en cuenta el contexto histórico-social, se han recopilado y analizado todas las traducciones, adaptaciones y ediciones infantiles y juveniles realizadas desde 1922, fecha de la primera, hasta la actualidad, reunidas en dos catálogos. Se estudia, además, la recepción de El Quijote a través de versiones cinematográficas y teatrales, sin olvidar el análisis comparativo con obras contemporáneas de autores chinos. Por último, se da cuenta de la recepción en China de otras obras del autor.The present Doctoral Thesis aims to make known the repercussion that Don Quixote, the great work of Miguel de Cervantes, had and has in a country as spatially and culturally distant from Spain as China, while continuing to attend to the other titles that shape up the Cervantes corpus. In this way, and always taking into account the social-historical context, all the translations, adaptations and editions for children and young people made since 1922, the date of the first one, up to the present time, have been compiled and analyzed in two catalogs. In addition, the reception of Don Quixote is studied through cinematographic and theatrical versions, without forgetting the comparative analysis with contemporary works by Chinese authors. Measuring investment opportunities using financial statement text

We analyze 10-K texts from EDGAR during 1995-2009 to score firms’ investment opportunity sets on multiple dimensions. We identify 646 unique key words that predict future investments and group them into 62 factors. Industry-specific factors include Bio-Pharmaceutical, Banking, Information Technology, Oil & Gas and Semi-conductor, while more general factors include Impairment, Debt Intensity, Executive Employment, Preferred Stock Buyback and Capital Seeking. Our multi-dimensional measures of firms’ investment opportunities outperform Tobin’s Q and/or industry-fixed effects, in predicting out-of-sample future (2010-15) investments and related corporate policies, and even inform incrementally over lagged dependent variables

Don Quixote and the A Madman's Diary of Lu Xun: history of a unique relationship

Son muchas las huellas de Don Quijote que localizadas en textos de épocas, lenguas y culturas distintas, nos hablan no solo de la importancia de la obra de Cervantes, sino también del modo en que ha sido leída e interpretada. Es lo que sucede con un breve relato considerado el primero en romper con el estilo de la narrativa antigua, titulado Diario de un loco, publicado en 1918 por Lu Xun, padre de la literatura moderna china, además de gran lector de Cervantes. No tenemos documentos que avalen que imitó al alcalaíno en su escritura; sin embargo, algunas de sus obras, como la citada, suelen ser comparadas con Don Quijote tanto por hispanistas como por lectores chinos, sobre todo en lo que se refiere al tratamiento de la locura. Es precisamente la relación entre estos dos textos la que se analiza en las páginas de este artículo.As is well known, Don Quixote’s footsteps have been found in texts from very different eras, languages and cultures, which not only talk about the importance of Cervantes' work, but also about the way in which it has been read and interpreted. This is what happens with a short story considered the first Chinese modern novel, entitled A Madman's Diary, published in 1918 by Lu Xun, father of modern Chinese literature, as well as a great reader of Cervantes. We don’t have documents that support that he imitated the alcalaíno in his writing; however, some of his works, like the one cited, are often compared to Don Quixote, by Hispanists and Chinese readers, especially in regard to the treatment of madness. Design of the Tsinghua Tabletop Kibble Balance

The Kibble balance is a precision instrument for realizing the mass unit, the kilogram, in the new international system of units (SI). In recent years, an important trend for Kibble balance experiments is to go tabletop, in which the instrument's size is notably reduced while retaining a measurement accuracy of $10^{-8}$. In this paper, we report a new design of a tabletop Kibble balance to be built at Tsinghua University. The Tsinghua Kibble balance aims to deliver a compact instrument for robust mass calibrations from 10 g to 1 kg with a targeted measurement accuracy of 50 $\mu$g or less. Some major features of the Tsinghua Kibble balance system, including the design of a new magnet, one-mode measurement scheme, the spring-compensated magnet moving mechanism, and magnetic shielding considerations, are discussed.Comment: 8 pages, 9 figure

The Weixin phenomenon among Chinese university students: a new model of multifunctional application

China es el país que tiene más usuarios de móvil con acceso a Internet del mundo y sustenta un panorama singular y atomizado de medios sociales y de aplicaciones de móvil. En este contexto ha surgido Weixin, una aplicación que se está convirtiendo en todo un fenómeno social, particularmente entre los universitarios. Así pues, el presente artículo tiene como objetivos: analizar Weixin para comprender las posibilidades que ofrece este nuevo modelo de aplicación; y conocer las transformaciones y las nuevas prácticas sociales que está ocasionando entre los estudiantes dentro de los campus universitarios. Para llevar a cabo esta investigación se ha utilizado un método mixto basado en el análisis de contenido para explorar Weixin y la realización de entrevistas en profundidad a estudiantes de la Universidad de Sichuan. Los resultados obtenidos identifican a Weixin como una aplicación en la que converge un amplio espectro de funciones y servicios que persiguen sincronizarse con las necesidades de los usuarios en su vida cotidiana, ofreciendo además numerosas posibilidades de personalización. Su uso por parte de los estudiantes es un fenómeno que, en los campus universitarios, está transformando las interacciones sociales y generando nuevas prácticas en los ámbitos sociocultural, económico, mediático y, también, en el deporte. A través de esta aplicación, por tanto, los universitarios están desarrollando un nuevo estilo de vida en torno a los dispositivos móviles.China is the country where there are more mobile users with Internet access in the world and presents a singular and atomized landscape of social media and mobile applications. Within this context, it has emerged Weixin, an application that is becoming a real social phenomenon, particularly among university students. Thus, the main objectives of this article are: to analyze Weixin in order to understand the possibilities offered by this new model of application; and learn about the transformations and new social practices carried out by students on university campuses. For the purpose of conducting this investigation, we have used a mixed method based on the content analysis of Weixin and in-depth interviews with students of Sichuan University. The results obtained identify Weixin as an application where there is a convergence of a wide spectrum of functions and services that are synchronized with the needs of users in their day-to-day lives, while offering many possibilities for customization. Its use by students is a phenomenon which, on university campuses, is transforming the social interactions and generating new practices in the socio-cultural, economic, media and sports areas. Therefore, by using this application the university students are developing a new lifestyle around mobile devices

El Quijote en China: el viaje cinematográfico de don Quijote por el jianghu

Over a hundred years have passed since the arrival of El Quijote in China in 1918. During this time, Cervantes’ masterpiece left its mark on both the Chinese literature and other artistic fields. Having reviewed the reception of this classic in that country, this work focuses on the 3D film Don Quixote (2010) by A Gan. The analysis carried out delves into the relations that this production establishes with the previous works of the main filmmakers, the reflections in the Chinese culture on the basis of the historical context, the new narrative meanings, the sinicization of the characters’ features and characteristics, the intermedial references, and the hybridizations between different media presented in the film.Han transcurrido más de cien años desde que en 1918 se introdujo El Quijote en China. Durante este tiempo la obra maestra de Cervantes dejó huella tanto en la literatura china como en otras formas artísticas. Tras examinar la recepción de este clásico español en dicho país, este trabajo centra su atención en la película en 3D Biografía de un espadachín caballeresco mágico: Tang Ji Ke De (2010) de A Gan.
