This study reports the synthesis of Mg/Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) by the co-precipitation technique. The produced LDH was then employed as an adsorbent for auric ion (AuCl4-) in the presence of ferric (Fe3+) and dichromate (Cr2O72-) species in an aqueous solution. An adsorption test examined the effects of single and ternary (Au/Fe/Cr) system solutions. The adsorbent underwent characterization by the utilization of FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), powder XRD (X-ray diffraction), and FE-SEM (Field emission scanning electron microscopy) techniques. The experimental results revealed that the adsorption of AuCl4- without any competing species reached its maximum efficiency at a solution acidity of pH 3. The results of the kinetic investigation indicate that the adsorbent exhibited behavior consistent with a pseudo-second-order reaction. The rate constant (k) values obtained were 2.88 x 10-3 and 3.51 x 10-3 g/(mg.min) for the single and ternary solutions. Based on the Langmuir isotherm model, the adsorption capacities for single and ternary solutions were determined to be 21.75 mg g-1 and 27.78 mg g-1, respectively. The adsorbent exhibited a layered structure characterized by hexagonal platelet-type images

Black potato (Plectranthus rotundifolius) is one of the horticultural plants that has potential as nutraceutical food and also contain bioactive compounds such as being rich in flavonoids, especially anthocyanins. The potential benefits of black potatoes are not widely known by public, so it is necessary to cultivate one of them by processing it into food such as instant porridge, which is then labeled as B-PORIS product. The reason for choosing instant porridge was because it is a practical food product. This research aimed to prove that instant porridge from black potato contains bioactive compounds flavonoids, especially anthocyanins. These instant porridges are made with the appropriate ratio in 3 formulations with different parameters of black potato flour concentration, formulation 1 10%, formulation 2 9%, and formulation 3 11%. This research was conducted with organoleptic tests, moisture content tests, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and hedonic tests. The results of the organoleptic test obtained soft texture, characteristic chocolate smell, brown color, and slightly sweet and sweeter taste. The results of moisture content test were qualified with water content of not more than 7%. The results of flavonoid and anthocyanin test obtained positive results in all of formulations. The hedonic test result 80-90% of panelists indicate choose an option like, and really like in questionnaires, results demonstrated that formulation 3 was most likely. So it can be concluded that black potato tubers has the potential to become a nutraceutical product as an instant porridge with antioxidant effect that received and liked by various groups of age

Marsilea crenata C. Presl. contains phytoestrogens, which have structures or activity similar to estrogen and could potentially be utilized as a neuroprotector in an estrogen deficiency disease. This study aims to utilize M. crenata in the formulation of SNEDDS as a neuroprotector. The dosage form chosen aims to maintain stability and effectiveness because of its multi-compound properties. M. crenata was extracted using ethanol, then formulated into four SNEDDS formulas, and then characterization was done, which included physical quality (organoleptic and pH), particle size, polydispersity index, transmittance percentage, and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis. The results showed that the four formulas produced a homogenous yellow color with a distinctive odor formulation; the values of the pH, particle size, polydispersity index, and transmittance percentage were still in the allowable range; and the SEM analysis showed that SNEDDS particles dominated with a spherical shape of particles. It can be concluded that the ethanol extract of M. crenata leaves can be formulated into SNEDDS and the best SNEDDS formulation was formula B at 100 ppm extract concentration which had the smallest particle size, smallest polydispersity index, and the largest transmission percentage

Search for Eccentric Black Hole Coalescences during the Third Observing Run of LIGO and Virgo

Despite the growing number of confident binary black hole coalescences observed through gravitational waves so far, the astrophysical origin of these binaries remains uncertain. Orbital eccentricity is one of the clearest tracers of binary formation channels. Identifying binary eccentricity, however, remains challenging due to the limited availability of gravitational waveforms that include effects of eccentricity. Here, we present observational results for a waveform-independent search sensitive to eccentric black hole coalescences, covering the third observing run (O3) of the LIGO and Virgo detectors. We identified no new high-significance candidates beyond those that were already identified with searches focusing on quasi-circular binaries. We determine the sensitivity of our search to high-mass (total mass M>70M>70 MM_\odot) binaries covering eccentricities up to 0.3 at 15 Hz orbital frequency, and use this to compare model predictions to search results. Assuming all detections are indeed quasi-circular, for our fiducial population model, we place an upper limit for the merger rate density of high-mass binaries with eccentricities 0<e0.30 < e \leq 0.3 at 0.330.33 Gpc3^{-3} yr1^{-1} at 90\% confidence level.Comment: 24 pages, 5 figure

A Joint Fermi-GBM and Swift-BAT Analysis of Gravitational-wave Candidates from the Third Gravitational-wave Observing Run

    Get PDF
We present Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (Fermi-GBM) and Swift Burst Alert Telescope (Swift-BAT) searches for gamma-ray/X-ray counterparts to gravitational-wave (GW) candidate events identified during the third observing run of the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors. Using Fermi-GBM onboard triggers and subthreshold gamma-ray burst (GRB) candidates found in the Fermi-GBM ground analyses, the Targeted Search and the Untargeted Search, we investigate whether there are any coincident GRBs associated with the GWs. We also search the Swift-BAT rate data around the GW times to determine whether a GRB counterpart is present. No counterparts are found. Using both the Fermi-GBM Targeted Search and the Swift- BAT search, we calculate flux upper limits and present joint upper limits on the gamma-ray luminosity of each GW. Given these limits, we constrain theoretical models for the emission of gamma rays from binary black hole mergers

First joint observation by the underground gravitational-wave detector KAGRA with GEO 600

We report the results of the first joint observation of the KAGRA detector with GEO 600. KAGRA is a cryogenic and underground gravitational-wave detector consisting of a laser interferometer with 3 km arms, located in Kamioka, Gifu, Japan. GEO 600 is a British-German laser interferometer with 600 m arms, located near Hannover, Germany. GEO 600 and KAGRA performed a joint observing run from April 7 to 20, 2020. We present the results of the joint analysis of the GEO-KAGRA data for transient gravitational-wave signals, including the coalescence of neutron-star binaries and generic unmodeled transients. We also perform dedicated searches for binary coalescence signals and generic transients associated with gamma-ray burst events observed during the joint run. No gravitational-wave events were identified. We evaluate the minimum detectable amplitude for various types of transient signals and the spacetime volume for which the network is sensitive to binary neutron-star coalescences. We also place lower limits on the distances to the gamma-ray bursts analyzed based on the non-detection of an associated gravitational-wave signal for several signal models, including binary coalescences. These analyses demonstrate the feasibility and utility of KAGRA as a member of the global gravitational-wave detector network
