Los oratorianos de San Felipe Neri y los inicios de la arqueología cristiana

Con la aparición del Protestantismo en Europa se hace urgente la reforma de la Iglesia Católica. Las ciencias históricas se ponen entonces al servicio de la Reforma, entre ellas la arqueología que pretendía demostrar la antigüedad del Cristianismo. Es en este contexto en el que el Oratorio de San Felipe Neri jugará su papel protagonista. Maestro y asesor de algunas de las grandes figuras del momento Neri influirá de manera decisiva en el nacimiento de la Arqueología Cristiana en Roma. En este proceso participarán también importantes personalidades españolas, algunas asiduas a las reuniones del Oratorio en Roma, lo que permitirá un desarrollo paralelo de la nueva disciplina en ambos países. Entre los nombres más famosos encontramos a Alonso de Chacón, autor junto con De Winghe y Macarios de la documentación que permitirá a Bosio escribir su famosa Roma SotterraneaWith the appearance of Protestantism in Europe, the reform of the Catholic Church becomes urgent. Historical sciences are then put at the service of the Reformation, among these, archaeology that tried to demonstrate the antiquity of Christianity. It will be in this context in which the Oratorio of San Felipe Neri will play its protagonist role. Teacher and adviser of some of the great figures of the moment, Neri will have a decisive influence on the birth of Christian Archeology in Rome. In this process, important Spanish personalities, some regulars to the meetings of the Oratorio in Rome, will also participate, which will allow a parallel development of the new discipline in both countries. Among the most famous names we find Alonso de Chacon, whom in cooperation with De Winghe and Macarios will prepare the documents that will allow Bosio to write its famous Roma Sotterranea

Effectiveness of a neuropsychological treatment for confabulations after brain injury: A clinical trial with theoretical implications

The study is part of a doctoral dissertation by Estrella Ródenas, supervised by the other three authors.Confabulators consistently generate false memories without intention to deceive and with great feelings of rightness. However, to our knowledge, there is currently no known effective treatment for them. In order to fill this gap, our aim was to design a neuropsychological treatment based on current theoretical models and test it experimentally in 20 confabulators sequentially allocated to two groups: an experimental and a control group. The experimental group received nine sessions of treatment for three weeks (three sessions per week). The sessions consisted of some brief material that participants had to learn and recall at both immediate and delayed time points. After this, patients were given feedback about their performance (errors and correct responses). Pre- and post-treatment measurements were recorded. Confabulators in the control group were included in a waiting list for three weeks, performed the pre- and post- measurements without treatment, and only then received the treatment, after which a post-treatment measurement was recorded. This applied to only half of the participants; the other half quit the study prematurely. Results showed a significant decrease in confabulations and a significant increase in correct responses in the experimental group; by contrast, patients in the control group did not improve during the waiting list period. Only control group patients who subsequently received the treatment after serving as controls improved. The effects of the treatment were generalized to patients’ everyday lives, as reported by relatives, and persisted over time. This treatment seems to be effective and easy to implement and consequently of clinical interest. Moreover, it also has theoretical implications regarding the processes related to the genesis and/or maintenance of confabulations. In particular, results point to a deficit in early stages of memory retrieval with the preservation of later strategic monitoring processes. Specifically, some of the processes involved may include selective attention or early conflict detection deficits. Machine Learning-Based Approach Highlights the Use of a Genomic Variant Profile for Precision Medicine in Ovarian Failure

Ovarian failure (OF) is a common cause of infertility usually diagnosed as idiopathic, with genetic causes accounting for 10-25% of cases. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) may enable identifying contributing genes and variant profiles to stratify the population into subtypes of OF. This study sought to identify a blood-based gene variant profile using accumulation of rare variants to promote precision medicine in fertility preservation programs. A case-control (n = 118, n = 32, respectively) WES study was performed in which only non-synonymous rare variants <5% minor allele frequency (MAF; in the IGSR) and coverage ≥ 100× were considered. A profile of 66 variants of uncertain significance was used for training an unsupervised machine learning model to separate cases from controls (97.2% sensitivity, 99.2% specificity) and stratify the population into two subtypes of OF (A and B) (93.31% sensitivity, 96.67% specificity). Model testing within the IGSR female population predicted 0.5% of women as subtype A and 2.4% as subtype B. This is the first study linking OF to the accumulation of rare variants and generates a new potential taxonomy supporting application of this approach for precision medicine in fertility preservation

De las catacumbas a los últimos confines: violencia, sentido y representación en los periplos del martirio

En este trabajo propongo un análisis transversal de las figuras del mártir y del martirio. Recurriendo a la noción de mediación, en la primera parte analizo el rol protagónico de las representaciones del martirio en las prácticas de la memoria durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVI. Analizo algunas de las condiciones que contribuyeron a la emergencia de una "cultura del martirio" y el rol de las mediaciones en tal surgimiento. En la segunda parte, estudio la forma en que el (re)descubrimiento de las catacumbas romanas, abrió un campo de producción de sentido en torno a la figura del martirio. En la tercera parte, centrándome en la Compañía de Jesús, analizo algunas mediaciones a través de las cuáles las figuras del martirio transgredieron las fronteras de iglesias y conventos para proyectarse a los últimos confines en un mundo en plena expansión.Neste artigo proponho uma análise transversal das figuras do mártir e do martírio. Through the notion of mediation, in the first part I analyze the leading role of representations of martyrdom in memory practices during the second half of the sixteenth century. I analyze some of the conditions that contributed to the emergence of a "martyrdom's culture" and the role of mediation in such emergence. The second part studies how the (re)discovery of the Roman catacombs encouraged the production of meanings around the figure of martyrdom.
