Corporate social responsibility, job satisfaction, and customer orientation in Angola
This study sought to examine the effect of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on employees' costumer orientation through the mediating role of job satisfaction for a sample of tourism and hospitality employees in Angola. Data were collected from 125 respondents using anonymously completed structured questionnaires. Perceived CSR was assessed by the scale developed by Martínez et al. (2013), which includes social, economic and environmental issues. Job satisfaction was measured using Lima et al.'s (1994) job-facet scale, while customer orientation was evaluated using a reduced version of Saxe and Weitz's (1982) customer-orientation scale. The three dimensions of CSR in question have dissimilar levels of association with customer orientation. Only perceptions of company engagement in social CSR practices explain employees' customer orientation, and the relationship is partially mediated by job satisfaction. Additional studies with larger samples and longitudinal designs are needed to determine further the influence of CSR on employees' job satisfaction and customer orientation.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
On BPS preons, generalized holonomies and D=11 supergravities
We develop the BPS preon conjecture to analyze the supersymmetric solutions
of D=11 supergravity. By relating the notions of Killing spinors and BPS
preons, we develop a moving G-frame method (G=GL(32,R), SL(32,R) or Sp(32,R))
to analyze their associated generalized holonomies. As a first application we
derive here the equations determining the generalized holonomies of k/32
supersymmetric solutions and, in particular, those solving the necessary
conditions for the existence of BPS preonic (31/32) solutions of the standard
D=11 supergravity. We also show that there exist elementary preonic solutions,
i.e. solutions preserving 31 out of 32 supersymmetries in a Chern--Simons type
supergravity. We present as well a family of worldvolume actions describing the
motion of pointlike and extended BPS preons in the background of a D'Auria-Fre
type OSp(1|32)-related supergravity model. We discuss the possible implications

Antioxidants can inhibit basal autophagy and enhance neurodegeneration in models of polyglutamine disease.
Many neurodegenerative diseases exhibit protein accumulation and increased oxidative stress. Therapeutic strategies include clearing aggregate-prone proteins by enhancing autophagy or decreasing oxidative stress with antioxidants. Many autophagy-inducing stimuli increase reactive oxygen species (ROS), raising concerns that the benefits of autophagy up-regulation may be counterbalanced by ROS toxicity. Here we show that not all autophagy inducers significantly increase ROS. However, many antioxidants inhibit both basal and induced autophagy. By blocking autophagy, antioxidant drugs can increase the levels of aggregate-prone proteins associated with neurodegenerative disease. In fly and zebrafish models of Huntington's disease, antioxidants exacerbate the disease phenotype and abrogate the rescue seen with autophagy-inducing agents. Thus, the potential benefits in neurodegenerative diseases of some classes of antioxidants may be compromised by their autophagy-blocking properties
Supersymmetric string model with 30 kappa--symmetries in an extended D=11 superspace and 30/ 32 BPS states
A supersymmetric string model in the D=11 superspace maximally extended by
antisymmetric tensor bosonic coordinates, , is proposed. It
possesses 30 -symmetries and 32 target space supersymmetries. The usual
preserved supersymmetry--symmetry correspondence suggests that it
describes the excitations of a BPS state preserving all but two
supersymmetries. The model can also be formulated in any superspace, n=32 corresponding to D=11. It may also be treated as a
`higher--spin generalization' of the usual Green--Schwarz superstring. Although
the global symmetry of the model is a generalization of the super--Poincar\'e
group, , it may be
formulated in terms of constrained OSp(2n|1) orthosymplectic supertwistors. We
work out this supertwistor realization and its Hamiltonian dynamics.
We also give the supersymmetric p-brane generalization of the model. In
particular, the supersymmetric membrane model describes
excitations of a 30/32 BPS state, as the supersymmetric
string does, while the supersymmetric 3-brane and 5-brane correspond,

Communication studies cartography in the Lusophone world
Within the Lusophone community of over 250 million speakers only a minority developed a sense of belonging based on their common language, a phenomenon that is still very real today. According to the Mozambican writer, Mia Couto, Lusophony is not a ‘loud’ reality, rather a “luso-aphonic” one, that is, a place of low voices, no knowledge and no acknowledgement of the commonalities between themselves in this vast geographic and cultural space.
Recognizing precisely this gap, Communication research associations in Lusophone countries (Lusocom) have promoted the setting up of a research cooperation network primarily between Portuguese and Brazilian researchers, and then extending it to the Galician community, and subsequently to the entire Lusophone space. This movement is based on the assumption that linguistic diversity enriches science and that science should be globally and contextually relevant.
Lusophony can be discussed from various points of view, all related to the cultural identity of the Portuguese-speaking countries. I would like to explain my point of view, focused on the social status of language. Then, I will refer to the English language has a dominant language. Finally, I would like to point out some challenges that, from my perspective, the Lusophone research groups have to face in a global world dominated by English and anglo-saxon paradigms.
My approach is in fact focused on the perspective of language, understood as a cultural manifestation, the expression of thought, a relational space, and an instrument of symbolic organization of the world. Such understanding is coincident with the symbolic power of language (Pierre Bourdieu’s theory), and with the post-colonial perspective which questions the domination, submission, subordination and control of peripheries, minorities, diasporas, migrants…(undefined)info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Spectrophotometric Distances to Galactic H\,{\sc{ii}} Regions
We present a near infrared study of the stellar content of 35 H\,{\sc{ii}}
regions in the Galactic plane. In this work, we have used the near infrared
domain , and band color images to visually inspect the
sample. Also, color-color and color-magnitude diagrams were used to indicate
ionizing star candidates, as well as, the presence of young stellar objects
such as classical TTauri Stars (CTTS) and massive young stellar objects
(MYSOs). We have obtained {\it Spitzer} IRAC images for each region to help
further characterize them. {\it Spitzer} and near infrared morphology to place
each cluster in an evolutionary phase of development. {\it Spitzer} photometry
was also used to classify the MYSOs. Comparison of the main sequence in
color-magnitude diagrams to each observed cluster was used to infer whether or
not the cluster kinematic distance is consistent with brightnesses of the
stellar sources. We find qualitative agreement for a dozen of the regions, but
about half the regions have near infrared photometry that suggests they may be
closer than the kinematic distance. A significant fraction of these already
have spectrophotometric parallaxes which support smaller distances. These
discrepancies between kinematic and spectrophotometric distances are not due to
the spectrophotometric methodologies, since independent non-kinematic
measurements are in agreement with the spectrophotometric results. For
instance, trigonometric parallaxes of star-forming regions were collected from
the literature and show the same effect of smaller distances when compared to
the kinematic results. In our sample of H\,{\sc{ii}} regions, most of the
clusters are evident in the near infrared images. Finally, it is possible to

The Stellar Content of Obscured Galactic Giant HII Regions. VII. W3
Spectrophotometric distances in the K band have been reported by different
authors for a number of obscured Galactic HII regions. Almost 50% of them show
large discrepancies compared to the classical method using radial velocities
measured in the radio spectral region. In order to provide a crucial test of
both methods, we selected a target which does not present particular difficulty
for any method and which has been measured by as many techniques as possible.
The W3 star forming complex, located in the Perseus arm, offers a splendid
opportunity for such a task. We used the NIFS spectrograph on the Frederick C.
Gillett Gemini North telescope to classify candidate "naked photosphere" OB
stars based on 2MASS photometry. Two of the targets are revealed to be mid
O-type main sequence stars leading to a distance of d = 2.20 kpc. This is in
excellent agreement with the spectrophotometric distance derived in the optical
band (d = 2.18 kpc, Humphreys 1978) and with a measurement of the W3
trigonometric parallax (d = 1.95 kpc, Xu et al. 2006). Such results confirm
that the spectrophotometric distances in the K band are reliable. The radio
derived kinematic distance, on the contrary, gives a distance twice as large (d
= 4.2 kpc, Russeil 2003). This indicates that this region of Perseus arm does
not follow the Galactic rotation curve, and this may be the case also for other
HII regions for which discrepancies have been found
El álbum poético en portugués y en español: sinergia estética entre palabras e ilustraciones
Este estudo procurou problematizar a relação textual que se observa entre a palavra e a imagem em um tipo de texto especialmente concebido para crianças: o álbum poético. Para tal, utilizamos alguns exemplos textuais significativos desse subgênero literário/editorial ainda em emergência tanto em Portugal quanto na Espanha, e propusemos uma definição e uma caracterização baseadas no comentário de sequências poéticas nas quais a ilustração sustenta o conteúdo verbal. Efetivamente, centrando a atenção no álbum poético de potencial recepção infanto-juvenil, sugere-se uma análise de diversos títulos de autoria portuguesa e espanhola, assente em uma leitura dialógica do texto verbal e do visual. A sinergia que se concretiza entre as duas componentes enunciadas alicerça essa nova construção estética que tem, na verdade e na sua essência, a poesia como matriz e, em larga medida, é devedora dos efeitos expressivos da metáfora.This study aimed to discuss the relation between words and images in a type of text especially directed to children: the picture-poetry book. From significant examples of this literary subgenre still emerging in both Portugal and Spain, we propose a definition and characterization based on the review of poetic sequences in which illustrations support the verbal content. By focusing on picture-poetry books potentially aimed for adolescents and children, we present an analysis of several titles by Portuguese and Spanish authors, based on the dialogic reading between verbal and visual texts. The synergy found between these two components creates de foundantions of a new aesthetic construction which, in truth and in essence, has poetry as its matrix and owes its expressive effects to metaphors.Este estudio ha tenido como objetivo discutir la relación textual que existe
entre la palabra y la imagen en un tipo texto especialmente creado para
niños: el álbum poético. Para ello, utilizamos algunos ejemplos textuales
significativos de un subgénero literario en emergencia tanto en Portugal
cuanto en España, y hemos propuesto una definición de este subgénero y su
caracterización a partir del comentario de secuencias poéticas en las cuales
la imagen sustenta el contenido verbal. De hecho, centrando la atención en

Multiple late-Pleistocene colonisation events of the Antarctic pearlwort Colobanthus quitensis (Caryophyllaceae) reveal the recent arrival of native Antarctic vascular flora
Aim: Antarctica's remote and extreme terrestrial environments are inhabited by only two species of native vascular plants. We assessed genetic connectivity amongst Antarctic and South American populations of one of these species, Colobanthus quitensis, to determine its origin and age in Antarctica.
Location: Maritime Antarctic, sub‐Antarctic islands, South America.
Taxon: Antarctic pearlwort Colobanthus quitensis (Caryophyllaceae).
Methods: Four chloroplast markers and one nuclear marker were sequenced from 270 samples from a latitudinal transect spanning 21–68° S. Phylogeographic, population genetic and molecular dating analyses were used to assess the demographic history of C. quitensis and the age of the species in Antarctica.
Results: Maritime Antarctic populations consisted of two different haplotype clusters, occupying the northern and southern Maritime Antarctic. Molecular dating analyses suggested C. quitensis to be a young (<1 Ma) species, with contemporary population structure derived since the late‐Pleistocene.
Main conclusions: The Maritime Antarctic populations likely derived from two independent, late‐Pleistocene dispersal events. Both clusters shared haplotypes with sub‐Antarctic South Georgia, suggesting higher connectivity across the Southern Ocean than previously thought. The overall findings of multiple colonization events by a vascular plant species to Antarctica, and the recent timing of these events, are of significance with respect to future colonizations of the Antarctic Peninsula by vascular plants, particularly with predicted increases in ice‐free land in this area. This study fills a significant gap in our knowledge of the age of the contemporary Antarctic terrestrial biota. Adding to previous inferences on the other Antarctic vascular plant species (the grass Deschampsia antarctica), we suggest that both angiosperm species are likely to have arrived on a recent (late‐Pleistocene) time‐scale. While most major groups of Antarctic terrestrial biota include examples of much longer‐term Antarctic persistence, the vascular flora stands out as the first identified terrestrial group that appears to be of recent origin
