The Role of Vimentin in Tissue Repair and Cell Growth

    Get PDF
Microfilaments, microtubules, and intermediate filaments serve as the cytoskeleton of the cell and form a complex network by interacting with cytoskeleton-associated proteins. The cytoskeleton provides a framework for the cell and regulates different cellular functions. Intermediate filaments form a large family of proteins, which are classified into different groups based on their structure and tissue expression pattern. Epithelial cells undergo epithelial mesenchymal transitions (EMT) during embryonic development, wound healing, cancer, and fibrosis, to become proliferative, and migratory in nature. Vimentin is a well-known EMT marker, but its role in EMT is not well characterized. This thesis work investigated the role of vimentin in EMT during the wound healing process, cell growth, and autoimmunity. In Vim-/- mice, delayed wound healing due to defects in EMT signaling, keratinocyte cell migration, fibroblast cell proliferation, and collagen deposition. Fibroblasts play an essential role in normal development and wound healing. We observed that a lack of vimentin resulted in reduced fibroblast cell size and due to deficient mTOR signaling. Vimentin affected mTOR signaling by modulating Rag GTPase activity, consequently regulating cell size and autophagy. We also found that vimentin expression was increased in regulatory Treg cells, which control autoimmune response, and this increase in expression was mediated through TGF-ÎČ1. This thesis work provides evidence for the new roles of vimentin in tissue repair and cellular growth.

    Curriculum Design and Development

A curriculum development team is recommended in order to bring both subject matter and educational methods expertise to the project. Revisions and rewrites, based on feedback from these groups, must be completed before editing begins. Professional editing will assure proper language usage, readability, appropriate flow, and consistency. Professional design and layout of the curriculum, often with the editor and designer working together will assure both accuracy and a professional look. Once designed, the product is printed and/or posted online. When posting online, it is important to include accessibility features during the design phase. Once the curriculum is made generally available it should be evaluated from time to time to assure that it is of value to the users and remains current

MARKET TIMING ABILITIES OF LARGE-CAP EQUITY MUTUAL FUND MANAGERS: EVIDENCE FROM INDIA

This study investigates the Market Timing Ability (MTA) of large-cap equity fund managers in India. The extensions of Treynor and Mazuy (TM) model and Henriksson and Merton (HM) model have been used by adding six additional factors related to the public information, 91-days Treasury bill’s yield, the dividend yield on CNX 500 index, term structure of interest rates, the price-to-earnings ratio, yield from foreign exchange rates changes, and growth rate in gold prices. The extended models are termed, conditional models. This study has used time-series data of large-cap equity funds. The results of the conditional and unconditional versions of TM and HM models reveal that the large-cap equity funds as a whole do not possess significant MTA, even though a considerable percentage of the funds under each of the models show significant positive MTA. The study also highlights that the inclusion of the public information variables reconstitutes the impact of the market timing factor and other beta estimates in the model

Nowadays, Autonomous carrier vehicles are becoming more predominant for the modern society. Hence designing these vehicles is one of the core fields of automation engineering. In regard to that, our project full-fills an idea of autonomous transportation. This vehicle is a carrier of materials from one place to another place through a fixed lane Path (guide way). It can also act as an easy vehicle for disabled and blind people in their houses. The main carrier consists of a table mounted on four omni-wheeled base which has control unit which guides the direction of the wheels. The carrier has an insert which moves through a guide keyway. Each junction and turning points has proximity sensor which indicates the position of carrier to the controller. The microcontroller is programmed in such a way that it can find the direction that the bot has to move at every junctions. This was programmed by considering the shortest path between the current position and the destination point. The controlled signal is amplified and made to actuate the motor control relays.Carrier bot is operated wirelessly using RF remote which has the position buttons. Those buttons are assigned as the positions. These are the positions that the sensors were built. When we call the bot to a point by pressing the corresponding button it can arrive to that point from any positions and it can autonomously find its way to there and can be sent to any position in a similar way. It can find its applications in a variety of area so as stated as multi-purpose carrier, ranging from hypermarkets to hospitals and libraries to warehouses. In hotels and restaurants it can be employed to serve the food as a servant.

AIM OF THE STUDY: Smokers with suspected COPD seek medical attention when they become dyspnoeic on mild to moderate exertion, but by than half of the ventilator reserves are lost irreversibly. Hence it seems logical to diagnose COPD early before development of significant symptoms. Since smoking cessation in COPD is found to reduce rapid decline of ventilator function in smokers and to make an attempt to quit smoking in south Indian population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients attending outpatient department at MGM Govt. Hospital attached to KAPV Govt. Medical College, Tiruchirappalli. EASY ONE spirometer. TYPE OF STUDY: Unicentric Prospective description study. USEFULNESS OF THE STUDY: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major case of chronic morbidity and mortality. Third leading cause of death in 2020Smoking cessation will improve quality of life and decrease the morbidity and mortality. CONCLUSION: 1. The most common age of first smoking is 18 years and all participants had started smoking by 26 years. 2. The youngest age of first smoking is at 16 years 3. The age of first smoking does not have significance with airflow limitation 4. The most common age group found is 39-49 years 5. The most prevalent BMI is 18.5-24.9 and does not have significance in respect to airflow obstruction . 6. SI has significant negative correlation with FEV1/FVC and Significant positive correlation coefficient with age. 7. The quantum of smoking correlates with severity of airflow obstruction as indicated by SI 8. There is 17.8% of asymptomatic smokers have airflow limitation in the form of obstructive lung disease. 9. There is 61.29% of asymptomatic smokers had mild COPD and 38.7% had moderate COPD as per GOLD guidelines 10. The FEV1/FVC ratio as a screening tool to detect the presence of COPD in asymptomatic smokers is established 11. Handheld in office spirometry is useful for screening the smokers for presence of airflow obstruction before significant symptoms. 12. MEF 25-75 also has significant positive correlation coefficient with FEV1/FVC ratio and significant negative correlation with S

This paper presents the liquid free surface behaviour in a partially filled automotive fuel tank under uniformly accelerated motion. The liquid in the fuel tank is subjected to violent sloshing during sudden acceleration or stopping of the vehicle which will produce structural vibration and noise in the passenger compartment. To reduce this sloshing, baffles are to be used inside the tank. The objective of this work is to study the influence of vertical baffles and fill levels on free surface elevation of liquid in a partially filled fuel tank. The simulation of liquid free surface behaviour under uniform acceleration is done using ANSYS-FLUENT software. A numerical model has been developed based on Volume of Fluid (VOF) technique to track the free surface motion of liquid. The explicit time discretization scheme is employed to solve the volume fraction equation. From the numerical analysis, amplitude of free surface elevation and slope of free surface are predicted. Experiments are carried out with transparent fuel tank which is fabricated using glass fibre and epoxy resin. A uniform acceleration is applied to the tank and free surface displacements of liquid are captured using high speed camera. Also, an analytical model is formulated to find position of the free surface of liquid under uniform acceleration. The free surface profiles obtained from the simulations are compared with the experimental results and analytical solution. These results are found to be in good agreement
