    A Printed Wearable Dual-Band Antenna for Wireless Power Transfer

    In this work, a dual-band printed planar antenna, operating at two ultra-high frequency bands (2.5 GHz/4.5 GHz), is proposed for wireless power transfer for wearable applications. The receiving antenna is printed on a Kapton polyimide-based flexible substrate, and the transmitting antenna is on FR-4 substrate. The receiver antenna occupies 2.1 cm2 area. Antennas were simulated using ANSYS HFSS software and the simulation results are compared with the measurement results

    Investigating the Effective Factors on Impulse Buying

    Purpose – To investigate the impact of salesperson features factors on of subway passengers Design/methodology/approach – Based on Belk’s framework on situational factors in a sales situation, the study employed a dataset of subway station in Iran (Tehran city) and regression for analysis. Findings – It is found that, whether in the individual sample, two main factors considered significantly affected shoppers’ purchases of food or non-food products. However, situational influences on purchases varied according to the types of products bought. More importantly, the findings on the impact of some factors were consistent across three or two samples, suggesting that their external validity may be extended to certain conditions. Research limitations/implications – The study had a limitation in the selection of the stations where the interviews were conducted, so some of the findings may be station-specific rather than representative of the general population of shoppers in the nations or regions. Practical implications – The information disclosed here may help the practitioners to better understand shoppers’ (especially Chinese shoppers’) behaviour in malls and, as a consequence, to undertake more efficient marketing strategies in malls (especially in the malls in China). Originality/value – The distinguished feature of this paper is that it simultaneously examined the impacts of 2 main factors on subway passengers purchase decisions.     Comparing the Effects of L1 and L2 Definition on Incidental Vocabulary Learning through Listening to Stories

    Vocabulary is an essential component of language proficiency which provides the basis for learners’ performance in other skills. This study investigated the effect of three kinds of definition conditions, that is L1, L2, and L1+L2 on incidental vocabulary knowledge of EFL learners. To this aim, three experimental and one control groups took part in the current study so as to examine the effectiveness of definitions with 96 target words through listening. The participants were 74 fourth-grade high school students. Eight stories with each with 12 target words (total 96 words) were given to the learners. Participants in each group listened to eight short stories under one of the three mentioned conditions for experimental groups, with no definition offered for control group. They all answered vocabulary list, eight immediate post-tests and eight delayed posttests of vocabulary. The data were analyzed using t-tests and one-way ANOVA for both immediate and delayed post-tests. The results indicated that definition groups significantly outperformed the other group in terms of vocabulary acquisition on both immediate and delayed retention of target words. However, the findings showed a significant loss from the immediate to the delayed post-tests. These findings are discussed and implications are offered for foreign language syllabus designers and instructors

    Hybrid Inductive Power Transfer and Wireless Antenna System for Biomedical Implanted Devices

    In this paper, we present a hybrid system consisting of a novel microstrip antenna that can be designed to resonate at various frequencies within the ultra-high frequency (UHF) band (e.g., 415 MHz, 905 MHz, and 1300 MHz), combined with a pair of high frequency (HF) coils (13.56 MHz). The system is designed to be fabricated on an FR4 substrate layer, and it provides a compact solution for simultaneous wireless power transfer (WPT) and multi-band wireless communication, to be utilized in implanted medical devices. The external antenna/coil combination (EX) will be located outside the body on the skin layer. The EX has 79.6mm-diameter. The implanted hybrid combination (IM) has 31.5mm-diameter. The antenna is designed such that by varying the position of a shorting pin the resonance frequency can be changed among three frequencies; therefore, the same design can be used for various applications. The system was designed using numerical simulation tools, and then it was fabricated and measured. The design was optimized while the performance of the system was numerically simulated at various depths inside a layered body model. Furthermore, the insertion loss (S21) and transmission efficiency (η) for both antenna and coil pairs at different depths were studied through simulation and measurements. The system provides a good solution for the combination of power transfer and multi-band data communication

    The involvement of clinicians in medical education research

    Background Medical education, like other forms of professional preparation, is a complex and demanding process, which can benefit enormously from careful research. Although such research can be conducted by researchers from outside medical education, there is also a clear need for clinicians to participate in such research and conduct studies that can draw upon their experience and insights. However, despite recent endeavours to involve clinical educators in such research, there are very few published articles reporting research conducted by such individuals. Objective To explore the factors that impact upon clinicians’ engagement in medical education research. Method Interview data, concerning potential involvement in medical education research, were gathered directly from 20 clinicians. A detailed systematic analysis was conducted on the interview transcripts. Results Three general themes emerged from the interviews, all of which relate to clinicians’ engagement in medical education research. They are: (a) effective leadership, (b) promoting professional growth, and (c) all-encompassing support. Conclusion The study shows that there is a need for clinical leaders with inspirational qualities to drive research in medical education. Also, clinicians need better training in educational research methods and more funding is needed to support this type of researc

    Engineering of 2D nanomaterials to trap and kill SARS-CoV-2 : a new insight from multi-microsecond atomistic simulations

    In late 2019, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Spike protein is one of the surface proteins of SARS-CoV-2 that is essential for its infectious function. Therefore, it received lots of attention for the preparation of antiviral drugs, vaccines, and diagnostic tools. In the current study, we use computational methods of chemistry and biology to study the interaction between spike protein and its receptor in the body, angiotensin-I-converting enzyme-2 (ACE2). Additionally, the possible interaction of two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials, including graphene, bismuthene, phosphorene, p-doped graphene, and functionalized p-doped graphene, with spike protein is investigated. The functionalized p-doped graphene nanomaterials were found to interfere with spike protein better than the other tested nanomaterials. In addition, the interaction of the proposed nanomaterials with the main protease (M-pro) of SARS-CoV-2 was studied. Functionalized p-doped graphene nanomaterials showed more capacity to prevent the activity of M-pro. These 2D nanomaterials efficiently reduce the transmissibility and infectivity of SARS-CoV-2 by both the deformation of the spike protein and inhibiting the M-pro. The results suggest the potential use of 2D nanomaterials in a variety of prophylactic approaches, such as masks or surface coatings, and would deserve further studies in the coming years.Peer reviewe

    Antinociceptive & anti-inflammatory effects of Berberis vulgaris L. root's hydroalcoholic extract and determination of it’s possible antinociceptive mechanism in male mice

          Berberis vulgaris L. (B. vulgaris) and specially its root have been used for a long time as a plant medicine in many countries including Iran. This plant is native in different parts of the world and is native in north areas of Iran like Khorasan. Recent research on this plant has shown its different therapeutic effects, Alkaloids especially Berberine has the most therapeutic usage among its compounds. This research is about the effects of Berberis vulgaris L. root's hydroalcoholic extract has done in two parts: its antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects was determined by Formalin and Xylene test respectively after determination of mortal plant dosage. Their dosage was 20, 40, 80 and 160 mg/kg. The three drugs include Naloxone 2 mg/kg, Dextromethorphan 20 mg/kg and L-NAME 10 mg/kg  interact with more significant dosage of B. vulgaris. The results showed antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects of root’s extract of B. vulgaris in acute and chronic phases of Formalin test. The extract efficiency was analyzed in part two through Formalin test by three drugs individually and also by root’s extract. Conclusion: due to reduction of extract’s antinociceptive effect in both acute and chronic phases after Naloxone injection, it may concluded that the extract shows its signs through opioid receptors

    FRTRUST: a fuzzy reputation based model for trust management in semantic P2P grids

    Grid and peer-to-peer (P2P) networks are two ideal technologies for file sharing. A P2P grid is a special case of grid networks in which P2P communications are used for communication between nodes and trust management. Use of this technology allows creation of a network with greater distribution and scalability. Semantic grids have appeared as an expansion of grid networks in which rich resource metadata are revealed and clearly handled. In a semantic P2P grid, nodes are clustered into different groups based on the semantic similarities between their services. This paper proposes a reputation model for trust management in a semantic P2P Grid. We use fuzzy theory, in a trust overlay network named FR TRUST that models the network structure and the storage of reputation information. In fact we present a reputation collection and computation system for semantic P2P Grids. The system uses fuzzy theory to compute a peer trust level, which can be either: Low, Medium, or High.     The co-existence of Femtocell with WiFi (in case of unlicensed spectrum splitting & sharing)

    Les femtocellules et le WiFi sont souvent présentés comme étant deux technologies concurrentes. Cependant, la réalité dit totalement l'inverse; ces technologies sont supposées jouer des rôles complémentaires dans le but d'accompagner la croissance fulgurante du trafic mobile. De plus, elles sont souvent implémentées dans un même et unique équipement d'accès. Les équipements mobiles pourront ainsi choisir l'utilisation de la technologie qui représente la meilleure option. Le déploiement des femtocellules dans les hotspots WiFi permettra aux opérateurs de donner aux usagers la possibilité d'utiliser les technologies 3G. Par conséquent, grâce à ces deux technologies, la qualité de l'expérience de la communication pendant la mobilité sera sans doute meilleure. Toutefois, cette coexistence présente de nouveaux défis en vue de l'amélioration de performances en termes des débits de transmission et de qualité de service des usagers. Ainsi, nous croyons qu'un partitionnement efficace des ressources spectrales accompagné d'un réglage minutieux des paramètres de transmission permettra de maximiser les performances des deux technologies. Dans ce mémoire, nous nous intéressons à la coexistence des technologies femtocellule et WiFi : (i) Dans un premier lieu, nous proposons une technique de partage des bandes spectrales ouvertes entre le réseau WiFi et le réseau femtocellule. La technique proposée assure une qualité de service et une équité entre les transmissions concurrentes. En se basant sur plusieurs simulations, nous démontrons que la technique proposée assure un partage équitable du spectre. (ii) Dans un second lieu, nous proposons un Framework ayant pour objectif l'amélioration du débit total du réseau des femtocellules lorsque ces dernières utilisent simultanément des bandes de spectres ouvertes et d'autres sous licences. Le système étudié, comprenant le réseau WiFi et le réseau des femtocellules, a été modélisé analytiquement et ses performances ont été évaluées par plusieurs simulations.
