Updates to the Dualized Standard Model on Fermion Masses and Mixings
The Dualized Standard Model has scored a number of successes in explaining
the fermion mass hierarchy and mixing pattern. This note contains updates to
those results including (a) an improved treatment of neutrino oscillation free
from previous assumptions on neutrino masses, and hence admitting now the
preferred LMA solution to solar neutrinos, (b) an understanding of the
limitation of the 1-loop calculation so far performed, thus explaining the two
previous discrepancies with data, and (c) an analytic derivation and

Dynamic modelling and linear quadratic Gaussian control of a twin-rotor multi-output system
This paper presents an investigation into the modelling and control of a one-degree-of-freedom (1 DOF) twin-rotor multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system (TRMS). The behaviour of the TRMS in certain aspects resembles that of a helicopter. Hence, it is an interesting identification and control problem. A dynamic model characterizing the TRMS in hover is extracted using a black-box system identification technique. The extracted model is employed in the design of a feedback linear quadratic Gaussian compensator, namely the stability augmentation system (SAS). This has a good tracking capability but requires high control effort and has inadequate authority over residual vibration of the system. These problems are resolved by further augmenting the system with a command path prefilter, resulting in the command and stability augmentation system (CSAS). The combined feedforward and feedback compensator satisfies the performance objectives and obeys the actuator constraint. The control law is implemented in realtime on the TRMS platform
Fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 activation plays a causative role in urothelial cancer pathogenesis in cooperation with Pten loss in mice
Although somatic mutations and overexpression of the tyrosine kinase fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) are strongly associated with bladder cancer, evidence for their functional involvement in the pathogenesis remains elusive. Previously we showed that activation of Fgfr3 alone is not sufficient to initiate urothelial tumourigenesis in mice. Here we hypothesize that cooperating mutations are required for Fgfr3-dependent tumourigenesis in the urothelium and analyse a mouse model in which an inhibitor of Pi3kâAkt signalling, Pten, is deleted in concert with Fgfr3 activation (UroIICreFgfr3+/K644EPtenflox/flox). Two main phenotypical characteristics were observed in the urothelium: increased urothelial thickness and abnormal cellular histopathology, including vacuolization, condensed cellular appearance, enlargement of cells and nuclei, and loss of polarity. These changes were not observed when either mutation was present individually. Expression patterns of known urothelial proteins indicated the abnormal cellular differentiation. Furthermore, quantitative analysis showed that Fgfr3 and Pten mutations cooperatively caused cellular enlargement, while Pten contributed to increased cell proliferation. Finally, FGFR3 overexpression was analysed along the level of phosphorylated mTOR in 66 T1 urothelial tumours in tissue microarray, which supported the occurrence of functional association of these two signalling pathways in urothelial pathogenesis. Taken together, this study provides evidence supporting a functional role of FGFR3 in the process of pathogenesis in urothelial neoplasms. Given the wide availability of inhibitors specific to FGF signalling pathways, our model may open the avenue for FGFR3-targeted translation in urothelial disease. Modeling the impact of corporate social responsibility on sustainable purchase intentions: insights into brand trust and brand loyalty
Green innovation performance deals with the strengthening of
the organizations for their competence in enhancement of their
green image. Current research examines the role of corporate
social responsibility (CSR) in improving sustainable purchase
intentions. In addition, it explores the mediating roles of brand
trust and brand loyalty. It also reveals that how CSR is crucial for
green innovation performance in Pakistan. This research uses the
structural equation model (SEM) analysis technique to investigate
the linkage between constructs in the complex research model.
This uses a self-administrated survey-based questionnaire and a
convenience sampling technique for data collection. The unit of
analysis is buyers from textile and clothing brands consisting 373
respondents. The findings revealed that corporate social responsibility had a beneficial impact on Pakistani purchasersâ long-term
purchase intentions. Green innovation performance can also be
improved by improving CSR. The link between CSR, sustainable
buying intentions, and green innovation technology is partially
mediated by brand loyalty. Brand trust was identified as a possible link between CSR and brand loyalty. Brand trust and loyalty,
interestingly, modulate the link between CSR and sustainable purchase intentions as well as CSR and green innovation performance in a sequential manner. The articleâs findings will be useful
for academics, specialists, and policymakers as these provide
glimpse into textile, clothing, and fashion brands with a focus on
CSR to improve green innovation performance, as well as highlighting the most relevant studies on the topic and showcasing
trends in research and gaps in the field
Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion with Stand-Alone Trabecular Metal Cages as a Surgical Treatment for Cervical Radiculopathy: Mid-Term Outcomes
Study DesignRetrospective case cohort study done between 2002 and 2012.PurposeTo assess the mid-term clinical and radiological outcomes of 1-level and 2-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with stand-alone trabecular metal cages.Overview of LiteratureACDF is the gold standard surgical treatment for cervical degenerative disease. The usual surgical practice is to use an anteriorly placed fusion plate with or without interdiscal cages.MethodsPatients between 36 and 64 years of age diagnosed with cervical radiculopathy who underwent ACDF using stand-alone trabecular metal cages with at least 3 years follow-up were included in this study. Recorded clinical outcomes included residual axial neck pain, radicular arm pain, upper extremity weakness, and upper extremity altered sensation. Visual Analogue scores were also recorded. Fusion was assessed by lateral radiographs looking for bone breaching and radiolucent lines around the device at the latest follow-up.ResultsNinety patients were included in the study. Fifty-one patients underwent 2-level surgery and 39 patients underwent 1-level surgery. Mean age was 44±10.4 years and mean follow-up time was 4.5±2.6 years. Patients reported excellent or good outcomes (90%), as well as improvements in axial neck pain (80%), radicular arm pain (95%), upper extremity weakness (85%), and upper extremity altered sensation (90%). Most patients (90%) progressed to fusion at the 1-year follow-up. The reoperation rate was 3.6%. There was no reported persistent dysphagia, voice complaints, dural tear, or tracheal or oesophageal perforation in any of the patients. One patient developed a deep methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infectious infarction of the spinal cord, which was treated with antibiotics. Recovery was complete at the 1-year follow up.ConclusionsMid-term results show that surgical treatment with ACDF with trabecular metal cages is a safe and effective treatment of single and 2-level cervical disc radiculopathy and neck pain
Factors Determining the Willingness to Adopt Grasscutter Domestication Technology among Urban Dwellers in Southwest, Nigeria
This study investigated factors determining the willingness to adopt
grasscutter domestication technology in South west, Nigeria.
Multi-stage sampling procedure was used to select 160 respondents from
9 urban towns in Oyo, Ogun and Osun States. Well-structured
questionnaire was used for data collection. Data was analysed using
descriptive analysis, correlational analysis and t-test. Results showed
that the majority (69.4%) of the respondents were male and married.
Coefficient correlation (r value) at (p< 0.05), shows that there is
a significant association between respondents\u2019 educational
status, religion, household size, primary as well as secondary
education with respondents\u2019 willingness to adopt the technology.
There was also found significant relationship between, perceived health
status of those who are into the grasscutter technology, perceived
nutritional value and economic value of the grasscutter domestication
technology with the willingness to adopt the grasscutter domestication
technology. The result if the T-test revealed that there is significant
relationship between perceived ease of practice and willingness to
adopt the technology. The majority of the respondents are willing to
rear grasscutter if variables like space, fund, availability of
ready-made buyer and feed, breeding stock and training are put into
place. However, issues relating to having enough plots of land,
funding, ready-made buyer of grasscutter, and training facilities are
most germane. It is therefore recommended that funding and training on
the adoption of the grasscutter domestication technology should be made
available to individuals
Adapting AlphaLISA high throughput screen to discover a novel small-molecule inhibitor targeting protein arginine methyltransferase 5 in pancreatic and colorectal cancers
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and colorectal cancer (CRC) are notoriously challenging for treatment. Hyperactive nuclear factor ÎșB (NF-ÎșB) is a common culprit in both cancers. Previously, we discovered that protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) methylated and activated NF-ÎșB. Here, we show that PRMT5 is highly expressed in PDAC and CRC. Overexpression of PRMT5 promoted cancer progression, while shRNA knockdown showed an opposite effect. Using an innovative AlphaLISA high throughput screen, we discovered a lead compound, PR5-LL-CM01, which exhibited robust tumor inhibition effects in both cancers. An in silico structure prediction suggested that PR5-LL-CM01 inhibits PRMT5 by binding with its active pocket. Importantly, PR5-LL-CM01 showed higher anti-tumor efficacy than the commercial PRMT5 inhibitor, EPZ015666, in both PDAC and CRC. This study clearly highlights the significant potential of PRMT5 as a therapeutic target in PDAC and CRC, and establishes PR5-LL-CM01 as a promising basis for new drug development in the future
Exogenous Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid Application Induced Modulations in the Performance of Aromatic Rice Under Lead Toxicity
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a non-protein amino acid and has a multi-functional role in abiotic stress tolerance. A pot experiment was conducted to assess the role of exogenous gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) application to modulate the growth, yield, and related physio-biochemical mechanisms in two aromatic rice cultivars, that is, Guixiangzhan (GXZ) and Nongxiang 18 (NX-18), under Pb toxic and normal conditions. The experimental treatments were comprised of Ck: without Pb and GABA (control), GABA: 1 mM GABA is applied under normal conditions (without Pb), Pb + GABA: 1 mM GABA is applied under Pb toxicity (800 mg kgâ1 of soil), and Pb= only Pb (800 mg kgâ1 of soil) is applied (no GABA). The required concentrations of GABA were applied as a foliar spray. Results revealed that Pb stress induced oxidative damage in terms of enhanced malondialdehyde (MDA), electrolyte leakage (EL), and H2O2 contents, while exogenous GABA application improved leaf chlorophyll, proline, protein and GABA contents, photosynthesis and gas exchange, and antioxidant defense under Pb toxicity in both rice cultivars. Moreover, glutamine synthetase (GS) and nitrate reductase (NR) activities were variably affected due to GABA application under Pb stress. The yield and related traits, that is, productive tillers/pot, grains/panicle, filled grain %, 1,000-grain weight, and grain yield were 13.64 and 10.29, 0.37% and 2.26%, 3.89 and 19.06%, 7.35 and 12.84%, and 17.92 and 40.56 lower under Pb treatment than Pb + GABA for GXZ and NX-18, respectively. Furthermore, exogenous GABA application in rice reduced Pb contents in shoot, leaves, panicle, and grains compared with Pb-exposed plants without GABA.
