South–South cooperation and the geographies of Latin America–Caribbean integration and development: a socio-spatial approach
Structured around the case of South–South cooperation in the construction of “complementary economic zones” among the member states of the ALBA-TCP, Petrocaribe, CARICOM and MERCOSUR, this article argues for a socio-spatial approach to the study of the Latin America–Caribbean integration and development. Two interrelated arguments are developed: first, in contrast to methodologically nationalist approaches, which typically view the regionalisms that are to form the complementary economic zones as ideologically separate, incompatible or conflicting projects, a sociospatial approach in conjunction with a South–South cooperation analytical lens explains their commonality and, subsequently, their interrelatedness and convergence. Second, while this South–South cooperation space is not per se non-capitalist, a socio-spatial analysis also facilitates “seeing” the production of a socialist “counter-space” within this South–South cooperation structure

Increasing the Incidence of Perinatal Depression Screening among Women Who Are Pregnant
Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to educate obstetric healthcare providers and medical assistants at the Providence Santa Monica OB/GYN outpatient clinic on the benefits of increasing the incidences of screening for perinatal depression for pregnant women using the EPDS screening tool.
Background: Evidence estimates that approximately one in seven women encounter perinatal depression during pregnancy. Increasing the screening incidence for perinatal depression during pregnancy may help identify more women at risk throughout the pregnancy, decrease the risk of adverse outcomes including psychotic symptoms, suicidal ideation, neonaticide, developmental delays, and behavioral issues in the child because of a lack of bonding marital discord and improve patient outcomes.
Methods: A project design was created using the Model for Improvements Plan Do Study Act Model that aims to evaluate providers current perinatal screening practices, educate voluntary providers and medical assistants on the importance of increasing of incidence of screening for perinatal depression during pregnancy using the EPDS screening tool, implement a one week trial of the proposed perinatal screening protocol with providers at a local obstetric clinic, and evaluate the intent of providers at the local clinic to adopt the newly proposed perinatal screening protocol into practice.
Results: Seven participants attended the quality improvement educational presentation. Seven completed the pretest and six completed the posttest. Key findings illustrated that an educational intervention enhanced providers' knowledge and comfort level in screening with the EPDS, interpreting, and treating patients with perinatal depression.
Conclusions: Perinatal depression is a mood disorder that is undiagnosed and continues to have a high prevalence rate amongst pregnant women worldwide. The educational intervention maintained the number of participants who were willing to screen for perinatal depression twice during pregnancy in the future. Increasing the incidence of perinatal depression screenings during pregnancy would be beneficial because it will identify patients with a positive screening to start early treatment to improve patient outcomes

Popularity and Academic Adjustment in the United States and China: a Meta-Analysis
This meta-analysis compares effect sizes for links between popularity and academic adjustment in China and the United States. We will also compare the effects of potential moderators across the two settings, including gender and developmental stages
Resurfacing Versus Non-resurfacing the Patella in Total Knee Arthroplasty: An Appraisal of Available Evidences
The decision whether to resurface or not
the patella in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is highly
controversial and surgeons show a wide variety of attitudes
in Europe and in the USA. Surgeons favouring
patellar resurfacing advocate that post-operative knee
pain following TKA is significantly diminished, which
would improve patient-based outcome. On the other
hand, patellar replacement carries a number of potential
complications which may outweigh the benefit of reduced
anterior knee pain. A systematic search of available
evidences comparing the outcome of unresurfaced
versus resurfaced patellae in TKA was therefore conducted.
The purpose of the present paper is providing
orthopaedic surgeons with an updated appraisal of relevant
evidences that may assist them in their decisionmaking
process.
Material and Method: A bibliographic search was
conducted through the most representative databases. We searched for meta-analyses (MA), systematic reviews
(SR) and randomized controlled trials (RCT) comparing
outcome between resurfaced and unresurfaced patellae in
TKA. The following databases were used: Cochrane
Muskuloskeletal Injuries Group Specialized Register, the
Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials, Health Technology
Assessment (HTA), PEDro, Medline, EMBASE,
CINAHL, AMED, DARE, TRIP, The National Research
Register (UK). The search was ended on February 2008.
The search term selected from The National Library of
Medicine’s medical subject heading (MESH) database
were: patella; resurfacing; total knee arthroplasty; TKA;
total knee replacement; TKR. Additionally, the rate of reduced
post-operative anterior knee pain in patients undergoing
patellar resurfacing was compared with the current
rate of complications associated with patellar replacement.
Results: Five MAs, 1 SR and 6 RCTs not included in the
published evidence syntheses were retrieved. All evidence
syntheses would warrant patellar resurfacing in order to
reduce anterior knee pain and the related risk of re-operation.
Conversely, 4 RCTs failed to detect significant differences
using accepted clinical scores at mid- and long-term
follow-up while 2 RCTs did not report significant variations
of the biomechanical performance in vivo between replaced
and un-replaced patellae.
Conclusion: Current evidences would support the decision
to resurface the patella when anterior knee pain and
the related risk of re-operation are used as end-points of
outcome at mid-term follow-up. However, no clinical
differences would be detectable between resurfaced and
unresurfaced patellae at long-term follow-up. In addition,
both patella-replaced and patella-unreplaced TKA
exhibit similar biomechanical behaviour in vivo. The rate
of anterior knee pain improvement in patients undergoing
patellar replacement should be contrasted with the
rate of potential complications related to patellar resurfacing

Attributes and Friendships of Youths Who Have Not Dated by Mid-Adolescence
Adolescence is a critical period for the onset of romantic relationships, but not all youths begin dating by mid-adolescence. We followed 566 high school students across one year to examine individual and friendship correlates of non-dating (reporting no prior romantic experience), and test moderation by gender and ethnicity using logistic regression models. Non-daters were likely to be Asian American, and most remained non-dating. Non-daters had low popularity, high GPAs, and their friends had low popularity, high social acceptance and high GPA. Asian American boys with predominantly same-ethnic friends were especially likely to be non-dating, whereas non-dating Latina girls with high social acceptance were likely to begin dating. Findings suggest that non-dating reflects adult-aligned values and is embedded in cultural ecologies
