    A evolução do endividamento público de Santa Catarina pós Lei de Responsabilidade Fiscal

    O presente artigo versa sobre a evolução da composição da dívida pública no estado de Santa Catarina pós Lei de Responsabilidade Fiscal. Primeiramente, foi realizado um esforço de construção e compatibilização das séries financeiras, uma vez que os dados brutos, tal como disponibilizados pela Secretaria da Fazenda, não são comparáveis intertemporalmente. Em seguida, analisou-se a evolução da dívida pelo método acima e abaixo da linha. Constatou-se, que após um período de estabilidade e controle da dívida estadual, houve uma mudança do perfil de endividamento em 2012, caracterizado pela troca de uma parcela dos passivos internos com a União por dívida externa. No mesmo período, a contratação de crédito para investimento aumentou, elevando o estoque da dívida. Esse novo perfil, combinado com a recessão econômica e a exposição ao risco cambial aumentaram a instabilidade do serviço da dívida pública

    The distances covered by basketball referees in a match increase throughout the competition phases, with no change in physiological demand

    It is crucial to know the demands on basketball referees, in different match periods (MPs) and phases of competition, for planning referee training and subsequent successful refereeing. To measure and evaluate the distance covered by referees in a match by measuring the number of interruptions, percentage of heart rate (%HR), and blood lactate concentration ([lac]) in different phases of competition and in different MPs. We studied the qualifying (QP), semifinal (SP), and final (FP) phases of a total of 12 matches (four matches in each phase) of the 2009-2010 Brazilian Basketball League. Distance covered, number of match interruptions, and referees' %HR and [lac] were analyzed. We compared the results between competition phases and between MPs (1st MP, 2nd MP, 3rd MP, and 4th MP). Regarding the distances covered, we observed significant differences (P < 0.05) in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd MPs between the FP and the other two phases (SP and QP) throughout the match, between each phase; in the 4th MP, a significant difference was found when comparing the QP and the other two phases. Comparing the periods within each phase, we found that a greater distance was covered in the 4th MP in relation to the 3rd MP during the FP.     Fruit maturation and in vitro germination of macaw palm embryos

    Acrocomia aculeata (macaw palm) is oil producing palm tree with significant agro-industrial potential. Seed dormancy in palm species may be due to embryo immaturity, which could result from delayed embryogenesis. We evaluated the correspondence between the visual characteristics of maturing fruits and their physiological aspects and the in vitro germination capacity of the embryos. 11 fruit bunches in different stages of maturity were collected and classified in terms of the degree of maturation of the endosperm, the color of the exocarp, and the occurrence of abscission. The water and oil contents of the mesocarp and seed were determined, and lipids and proteins were identified through histochemical analyses of the mesocarp, endosperm, and embryo. The embryos from each fruit bunch were cultivated in vitro in 75% Murashige and Skoog (1962) media with added organic compounds. The water contents of the seeds varied from 71.2 to 21.1% among the different stages of fruit ripening and were related to the visual markers of fruit maturation (exocarp color ranging from dark green to brown). Lipid accumulation in the mesocarp occurred later than in the endosperm, and only occurred in fruits from bunches showing signs of abscission. Embryos from bunches in different stages of maturation showed similar germinative capacities, as well as similar patterns of lipid and protein storage.     Maturity stage of fruits and factors related to nutritive and texture characters of pequi (Caryocar brasiliense Camb.) pulp

    O experimento foi conduzido com o objetivo de obter informa??es sobre a influ?ncia do est?dio de desenvolvimento do fruto (?poca de coleta) e do tipo de congelamento sobre os componentes nutricionais e de textura da polpa de pequi (Caryocar brasiliense Camb.). Os frutos foram coletados na ?rvore, antes da queda natural; no ch?o, ap?s a queda natural, e ap?s a queda natural, mantidos tr?s dias em condi??o ambiente. Em cada ?poca de coleta, ap?s a retirada da casca dos frutos, um grupo de putamens foi congelado diretamente em freezer, e outro, congelado em nitrog?nio l?quido, antes do congelamento em freezer. Ap?s seis meses, foi retirada a polpa dos putamens para a an?lise dos teores de caroten?ides totais, ? -caroteno, licopeno, vitamina A, prote?nas e lip?dios; teor de celulose, hemicelulose, pectinas total, c?lcio ligado ? parede celular e total, atividade da pectinametilesterase e poligalacturonase. Os resultados indicaram que os teores de pigmentos, lip?dios, prote?nas e atividade da PG aumentaram com o avan?o do est?dio de matura??o dos frutos. Por outro lado, houve diminui??o no teor da celulose com avan?o do est?dio de matura??o, enquanto os teores de hemicelulose e c?lcio n?o foram influenciados pela idade do fruto. O tipo de congelamento interferiu nos teores de pigmentos, maiores na polpa congelada em nitrog?nio l?quido, e na atividade da PG, maior na polpa congelada apenas em freezer. Por ?ltimo, os resultados mostraram que os frutos coletados na ?rvore s?o nutricionalmente inferiores aos coletados ap?s a queda natural.Funda??o de Amparo ? Fruits were collected in the tree before natural fall, in the ground after natural fall and in the ground three days after natural fall. In each harvest time, while one batch of the putamens was frozen in liquid nitrogen and afterwards stored in a freezer, another batch was frozen directly in the freezer. After six months the following analyses were performed in the pulp: contents of proteins, total carotenoid, b-carotene, licopene, vitamin A and lipids (nutritive characters); content of cellulose, hemicelluloses, total pectin, total and bound calcium, activity of polygalacturonase (PG) and pectinmethilesterase (PME) of the cell wall. The contents of pigments, lipids, proteins and activity of PG were the highest in the most advanced stages of maturation of fruits. On the other hand the content of cellulose decreased with the advanced stages of maturation whiles the content of hemicelluloses, total and bound calcium were not affected at the stages of maturation of the fruits. The types of freezing affected the contents of pigments; higher in the pulp frozen in liquid nitrogen; and the activity of PG was higher in the pulp frozen directly in the freezer. The fruits collected in the tree showed the lowest eating quality as judged by their lowest contents of pigments, protein and lipids. The results indicate that the most appropriate harvest time to higher quality of pequi fruits is after natural fall

    Enteric methane mitigation strategies for ruminant livestock systems in the Latin America and Caribbean region: A meta-analysis

    Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) is a developing region characterized for its importance for global food security, producing 23 and 11% of the global beef and milk production, respectively. The region's ruminant livestock sector however, is under scrutiny on environmental grounds due to its large contribution to enteric methane (CH4) emissions and influence on global climate change. Thus, the identification of effective CH4 mitigation strategies which do not compromise animal performance is urgently needed, especially in context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) defined in the Paris Agreement of the United Nations. Therefore, the objectives of the current study were to: 1) collate a database of individual sheep, beef and dairy cattle records from enteric CH4 emission studies conducted in the LAC region, and 2) perform a meta-analysis to identify feasible enteric CH4 mitigation strategies, which do not compromise animal performance. After outlier's removal, 2745 animal records (65% of the original data) from 103 studies were retained (from 2011 to 2021) in the LAC database. Potential mitigation strategies were classified into three main categories (i.e., animal breeding, dietary, and rumen manipulation) and up to three subcategories, totaling 34 evaluated strategies. A random effects model weighted by inverse variance was used (Comprehensive Meta-Analysis V3.3.070). Six strategies decreased at least one enteric CH4 metric and simultaneously increased milk yield (MY; dairy cattle) or average daily gain (ADG; beef cattle and sheep). The breed composition F1 Holstein × Gyr decreased CH4 emission per MY (CH4IMilk) while increasing MY by 99%. Adequate strategies of grazing management under continuous and rotational stocking decreased CH4 emission per ADG (CH4IGain) by 22 and 35%, while increasing ADG by 22 and 71%, respectively. Increased dietary protein concentration, and increased concentrate level through cottonseed meal inclusion, decreased CH4IMilk and CH4IGain by 10 and 20% and increased MY and ADG by 12 and 31%, respectively. Lastly, increased feeding level decreased CH4IGain by 37%, while increasing ADG by 171%. The identified effective mitigation strategies can be adopted by livestock producers according to their specific needs and aid LAC countries in achieving SDG as defined in the Paris Agreement.Fil: Congio, Guilhermo Francklin de Souza.
