    Os projetos educativos das Ruínas Engenho São Jorge dos Erasmos: discussões preliminares sobre o patrimônio

    The National Monument Ruins Mill São Jorge dos Erasmos, located in Santos County - São Paulo State, constitutes one of the oldest Brazilian sixteenth century architectural testimonies that still exist. One of the first sugar engines to be built, the Engenho dos Erasmos has been stage of important studies in several areas, what stimulated the opening of this cultural asset to the public, mainly for the students of fundamental education of the state and municipal public schools of the Baixada Santista. It is intended in this brief paper to discuss some guide elements of this pedagogical proposal that completed four years in past August, whose discussion is emphasized in three basic points: a) the process of construction and democratization of knowledge, from a interdiscipline proposal, b) the investigation and dialogue mechanisms that are results of questions formulated by the community, and c) the participatory management for the proximity relations of the visitors with their own past.O Monumento Nacional Ruínas Engenho São Jorge dos Erasmos, constitui um dos mais antigos testemunhos arquitetônicos quinhentistas brasileiros ainda existentes. Um dos primeiros engenhos de açúcar a ser construído, o Engenho dos Erasmos tem sido palco de relevantes estudos em diversas áreas do saber, o que incentivou a abertura do bem cultural ao público, sobretudo aos alunos de ensino fundamental das escolas públicas estaduais e municipais da Baixada Santista. Pretende- se, neste breve artigo, discutir alguns elementos norteadores desta proposta pedagógica que completou cinco anos de funcionamento em agosto de 2009, focando a discussão em três pontos básicos: a) o processo de construção e democratização de saberes, a partir de uma proposta interdisciplinar; b) os mecanismos de investigação e diálogo resultantes de questões formuladas pela própria comunidade e c) a gestão participativa do bem cultural em questão, sinalizando para as relações de proximidade dos visitantes com seu próprio passado

    Este artigo aponta as estratégias adotadas para aumentar o potencial de visitantes e retomar as pesquisas históricas e arqueológicas no Monumento Nacional Ruínas Engenho São Jorge dos Erasmos, da Pró-Reitoria de Cultura e Extensão Universitária da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), na Baixada Santista, uma das mais antigas evidências físicas da presença portuguesa no Brasil, mantendo-o aberto ao público de domingo a domingo e preservando seu sitio arqueológico. Inicialmente é apresentada breve descrição do Monumento, desde sua instalação na Capitania de São Vicente até o momento em que suas Ruínas foram transferidas para a Universidade de São Paulo. Em seguida, relata as atividades em desenvolvimento no Monumento, que justificaram a busca por solução capaz de viabilizar a retomada das pesquisas arqueológicas, interrompidas desde 2004. Por último, apresenta a solução encontrada pela atual diretoria do Monumento Nacional Ruínas Engenho São Jorge dos Erasmos, em conjunto com a Pró-Reitoria de Cultura e Extensão Universitária da USP, descrevendo o estágio atual do projeto e prospectando próximos passos

    The critical adventure of semiotics courses through the main theses about semiotics and communication that have been discussed during the first stage of the research Critical Semiotics: Towards a theory of materialities in communication. In it, the Semiotics and Communication Cultures Research Group (GPESC) discussed the potentialities and limits of a communicational perspective not only based on the founding works of semiotic research (Saussure, Peirce) and developed in its structuralist models (Jakobson, Barthes, Hjelmslev, Lotman), but also revisited by ideas that deconstructed structuralism through the postulates of this very structuralism (Derrida, Kristeva, Deleuze, Guattari). The paper presents this suggestion by means of ten deconstructions related to concepts and theoretical problems which are key to the debate around the materialities of communication: semiotics, communication, materialities, presence, phenomenon, representamen, mediums, sign and significant, structure and system. In so doing, it suggests a move from materialities towards the immanence of a micropolitical and post- human communication.A aventura crítica da semiótica percorre as principais teses sobre a semiótica e a comunicação conforme trabalhadas na primeira etapa da pesquisa Semiótica Crítica, denominada Por uma teoria das materialidades na comunicação. Nela, o Grupo de Pesquisa Semiótica e Culturas da Comunicação procurou discutir as potencialidades e limites de uma perspectiva comunicacional não somente fundamentada nos trabalhos fundadores da semiótica (Saussure, Peirce) e desenvolvida em seus modelos estruturalistas (como em Jakobson, Barthes, Hjelmslev e Lotman), mas também revisitada pelos textos que operaram uma desconstrução do estruturalismo pelo interior dos postulados deste próprio estruturalismo (Derrida, Kristeva, Deleuze, Guattari).     The IceCube Neutrino Observatory, the Pierre Auger Observatory and the Telescope Array: Joint Contribution to the 34th International Cosmic Ray Conference (ICRC 2015)

    We have conducted three searches for correlations between ultra-high energy cosmic rays detected by the Telescope Array and the Pierre Auger Observatory, and high-energy neutrino candidate events from IceCube. Two cross-correlation analyses with UHECRs are done: one with 39 cascades from the IceCube `high-energy starting events' sample and the other with 16 high-energy `track events'. The angular separation between the arrival directions of neutrinos and UHECRs is scanned over. The same events are also used in a separate search using a maximum likelihood approach, after the neutrino arrival directions are stacked. To estimate the significance we assume UHECR magnetic deflections to be inversely proportional to their energy, with values 33^\circ, 66^\circ and 99^\circ at 100 EeV to allow for the uncertainties on the magnetic field strength and UHECR charge.     Search for Spatial Correlations of Neutrinos with Ultra-high-energy Cosmic Rays

    For several decades, the origin of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) has been an unsolved question of high-energy astrophysics. One approach for solving this puzzle is to correlate UHECRs with high-energy neutrinos, since neutrinos are a direct probe of hadronic interactions of cosmic rays and are not deflected by magnetic fields. In this paper, we present three different approaches for correlating the arrival directions of neutrinos with the arrival directions of UHECRs. The neutrino data are provided by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and ANTARES, while the UHECR data with energies above ∼50 EeV are provided by the Pierre Auger Observatory and the Telescope Array. All experiments provide increased statistics and improved reconstructions with respect to our previous results reported in 2015. The first analysis uses a high-statistics neutrino sample optimized for point-source searches to search for excesses of neutrino clustering in the vicinity of UHECR directions. The second analysis searches for an excess of UHECRs in the direction of the highest-energy neutrinos. The third analysis searches for an excess of pairs of UHECRs and highest-energy neutrinos on different angular scales. None of the analyses have found a significant excess, and previously reported overfluctuations are reduced in significance. Based on these results, we further constrain the neutrino flux spatially correlated with UHECRs

    ATLANTIC EPIPHYTES: a data set of vascular and non-vascular epiphyte plants and lichens from the Atlantic Forest

    Epiphytes are hyper-diverse and one of the frequently undervalued life forms in plant surveys and biodiversity inventories. Epiphytes of the Atlantic Forest, one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world, have high endemism and radiated recently in the Pliocene. We aimed to (1) compile an extensive Atlantic Forest data set on vascular, non-vascular plants (including hemiepiphytes), and lichen epiphyte species occurrence and abundance; (2) describe the epiphyte distribution in the Atlantic Forest, in order to indicate future sampling efforts. Our work presents the first epiphyte data set with information on abundance and occurrence of epiphyte phorophyte species. All data compiled here come from three main sources provided by the authors: published sources (comprising peer-reviewed articles, books, and theses), unpublished data, and herbarium data. We compiled a data set composed of 2,095 species, from 89,270 holo/hemiepiphyte records, in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, recorded from 1824 to early 2018. Most of the records were from qualitative data (occurrence only, 88%), well distributed throughout the Atlantic Forest. For quantitative records, the most common sampling method was individual trees (71%), followed by plot sampling (19%), and transect sampling (10%). Angiosperms (81%) were the most frequently registered group, and Bromeliaceae and Orchidaceae were the families with the greatest number of records (27,272 and 21,945, respectively). Ferns and Lycophytes presented fewer records than Angiosperms, and Polypodiaceae were the most recorded family, and more concentrated in the Southern and Southeastern regions. Data on non-vascular plants and lichens were scarce, with a few disjunct records concentrated in the Northeastern region of the Atlantic Forest. For all non-vascular plant records, Lejeuneaceae, a family of liverworts, was the most recorded family. We hope that our effort to organize scattered epiphyte data help advance the knowledge of epiphyte ecology, as well as our understanding of macroecological and biogeographical patterns in the Atlantic Forest.
