The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017. There are many topics which refer to three macro sessions: - Witnessing (signs and history) - Communicating (signs and semiotics) - Experimenting (signs and sciences) Thanks to the different points of view, an exceptional resource of our disciplinary area, we want to try to outline the prevailing theoretical-operational synergies, the collaborative lines of an instrumental nature, the recent updates of the repertoires of images that attest and nourish the relations among representation, history, semiotics, sciences

Seismic response of the geologically complex alluvial valley at the "Europarco Business Park" (Rome - Italy) through instrumental records and numerical modelling

The analysis of the local seismic response in the “Europarco Business Park”, a recently urbanized district of Rome (Italy) developed over the alluvial valley of the “Fosso di Vallerano” stream, is here presented. A high-resolution geological model, reconstructed over 250 borehole log-stratigraphies, shows a complex and heterogeneous setting of both the local Plio- Pleistocene substratum and the Holocene alluvia. The local seismo-stratigraphy is derived by a calibration process performed through 1D numerical modelling, accounting for: i) 55 noise measurements, ii) 10 weak motion records obtained through a temporary velocimetric array during the August 2009 L’Aquila- Gran Sasso seismic sequence and iii) one cross-hole test available from technical report. Based on the reconstructed seismo- stratigraphy, the local seismic bedrock is placed at the top of a gravel layer that is part of the Pleistocene deposits and it does not correspond to the local geological bedrock represented by Plio-Pleistocene marine deposits. 1D amplification functions were derived via numerical modelling along three representative sections that show how in the Fosso di Vallerano area two valleys converge into a single one moving from SE toward NW. The obtained results reveal a main resonance at low frequency (about 0.8 Hz) and several higher resonance modes, related to the local geological setting. Nonlinear effects are also modelled by using strong motion inputs from the official regional dataset and pointed out a general down-shift (up to 0.5 Hz) of the principal modes of resonance as well as an amplitude reduction of the amplification function at frequencies higher than 7 Hz

We come from Napoli: il dialetto nelle canzoni di Liberato come tratto identitario

    Get PDF
We come from Napoli: the dialect in Liberato’s songs as an identity marker. In the global public perception, Italian culture has always been strongly associated with music. Traditionally, Italian song lyrics have been characterized by a high diatopic variation, which means that authors tend to mix dialects and Italian in their songs. In the last few years the contemporary music setting, and particularly the independent scene, opened up to dialectal features, colloquialisms and slang. In the present paper, we will discuss the use of Neapolitan by Liberato, a rapper who achieved resounding success in Italy and abroad during the last two years through his musical experimentation, a smart marketing strategy and by concealing his identity to the public. The aim of this essay is to analyze Liberato’s lyrics in order to evaluate whether the dialect he uses reflects the contemporary Neapolitan youth slang. In addition, we will investigate whether the mixture of languages in Liberato points to propagate a clear cut identity or not

Graphene-based dental adhesive with anti-biofilm activity

BACKGROUND: Secondary caries are considered the main cause of dental restoration failure. In this context, anti-biofilm and bactericidal properties are desired in dental materials against pathogens such as Streptococcus mutans. To this purpose, graphene based materials can be used as fillers of polymer dental adhesives. In this work, we investigated the possibility to use as filler of dental adhesives, graphene nanoplatelets (GNP), a non toxic hydrophobic nanomaterial with antimicrobial and anti-biofilm properties. RESULTS: Graphene nanoplatelets have been produced starting from graphite intercalated compounds through a process consisting of thermal expansion and liquid exfoliation. Then, a dental adhesive filled with GNPs at different volume fractions has been produced through a solvent evaporation method. The rheological properties of the new experimental adhesives have been assessed experimentally. The adhesive properties have been tested using microtensile bond strength measurements (µ-TBS). Biocidal activity has been studied using the colony forming units count (CFU) method. The anti-biofilm properties have been demonstrated through FE-SEM imaging of the biofilm development after 3 and 24 h of growth. CONCLUSIONS: A significantly lower vitality of S. mutans cells has been demonstrated when in contact with the GNP filled dental adhesives. Biofilm growth on adhesive-covered dentine tissues demonstrated anti-adhesion properties of the produced materials. µ-TBS results demonstrated no significant difference in µ-TBS between the experimental and the control adhesive. The rheology tests highlighted the necessity to avoid low shear rate regimes during adhesive processing and application in clinical protocol, and confirmed that the adhesive containing the 0.2%wt of GNPs possess mechanical properties comparable with the ones of the control adhesive

An investigation of the self- and inter-incompatibility of the olive cultivars 'Arbequina' and 'Koroneiki' in the Mediterranean climate of Sicily

In this investigation, the self-(in)compatibility of the Spanish cultivar Arbequina and the Greek cultivar Koroneiki was studied for the first time in Sicily, where these low vigour cultivars were recently introduced in super-intensive olive groves. Self- (S.P.) and openpollination (O.P.) tests, observation of fruit set and paternity test of seeds with microsatellite (SSR) markers, were performed to ascertain whether these cultivars were self-fertile and/or inter-compatible. For S.P. tests, branches with flowers at the balloon stage were bagged. For the O.P. tests, flowers were left to pollinate under natural conditions. Fruits from S.P. and O.P. were collected in November and fruit set was calculated. Genomic DNA was extracted from seeds. None of the 'Arbequina' seeds studied in either the S.P. or O.P. tests originated from self-fertilization. In addition, none of these seeds had 'Koroneiki' as the pollen parent. In contrast, 'Koroneiki' was found to be predominantly self-compatible in self-bagged branches, with 70% of the seeds originating from selffertilization. However, the incidence of self-fertilization was low (11%) in seeds from the O.P. test. Low levels of inter-compatibility were found between 'Arbequina' and 'Koroneiki', while many local cultivars were found to be good pollinators. The information presented here will be useful to growers for planning their orchards with suitable pollinators and for our breeding program aiming at obtaining new low vigour olive genotypes. In addition, our results suggested that the recent model of attribution of S-alleles and the prediction of suitable pollinizers for a given variety should be more cautious and always based on controlled crosses and paternity testing of seed from those crosses

Testing is used to measure the performance and, therefore, to check for the improvements resulting from training activity. More and more frequently, coaches require checks even during the current sporting season to measure the state of the athletes' performance and possibly change their training plans in order to make them more effective. Increasingly testing also has a monitoring function and, therefore, it is expected in the ordinary training activities without changing the annual planning. To do this, it is necessary to provide a type of functional tests for training. The purpose of this study is to monitor the state of efficacy of individual volleyball fundamental of a basic competitive level

The concepts of Education and Didactics in the field of Motor Activities are part of the process of social integration that allows the educator to create links with the outside world. Through movement the subject has the opportunity to integrate his gaps, learning to develop his potential, promoting new relationships with the body. The analysis of the most recent national guidelines for the school curriculum shows a particular attention to Physical Education as a vehicle of wide-ranging social values (Frabboni, F.,2015). The educational and social value of the movement is recognized and promoted internationally and is accompanied by a reconsideration of the concepts of health and well-being, becoming increasingly important in the lives of all human beings with or without disabilities. One of the main objectives of an inclusive learning approach is the need to ensure that all students achieve the highest possible level of learning and social participation. Motor activities represent the tool used for this purpose in compliance with the principles of innovative teaching actions

Parole Chiave: Sport, Rugby, Educazione In rugby, individual competitiveness and the virtuosity of the individual give way to the rise of the group, in which individual competitiveness first meet and then merge according to pre-established patterns, enhancing the contributions and skills of all individuals during the game. The purpose of this paper, therefore, is to bring to light the many skills that can be spent in different life contexts that the discipline of rugby has to offer to anyone who approaches it in practice

Longitudinal case study of the role of libero in volleyball

In volleyball, the role of libero is highly specialized compared to the others, thanks to high abilities in the individual fundamental of the Bagher and in the team fundamentals of reception and defence. Therefore, coaches are committed to differentiate training programs from those of the remaining team members and this also affects the checks: in fact, results will have a greater weight compared to the same efficacy measurements of the fundamental of the Bagher of other roles. It’s therefore very useful to monitor, through a series of tests, the work done in the gym: results will help to recalibrate the training plan to combine team goals with needs of the libero. The purpose of this study is to monitor the level of efficacy of the individual fundamental of the Bagher, employed in the following moments of game: free-ball; service receiving; spike defence. To do this, the tests were: Bagher of free-ball in zone 5; receiving Bagher in zone 1 and in zone 6; defence Bagher in zone 5. The method is experimental longitudinal and consists in detecting the initial and final data in a period of time of 8 months for the technical ability in the aforementioned fundamental of a player in the role of libero in series B1. From the results, it comes out that the training activities are constantly monitored and the purpose can be considered achieved, because the coach has verified the athlete's performance level over time noting a final performance improvement, also confirmed by the game-data
