Background: To evaluate the use of guided bone regeneration with xenograft to prevent periodontal defect in the distal aspect of the second molar after the surgical removal of the mandibular third molar.Material and Methods: Three electronic databases (Pubmed, Cochrane Library and Scopus) were searched in April 2020. Randomized clinical trials in non-smokers and healthy patients, with at least six months follow-up, comparing periodontal probing depth, clinical attachment level, alveolar bone level and adverse events were selected by two independent investigators. The risk of bias assessment of the selected studies was evaluated by means of the Cochrane Collaboration's Tool. Finally, a meta-analysis of the outcomes of interest was performed. Results: Despite 795 articles were found in the initial search, only three randomized controlled clinical trials were included. Pooled results favoured the use of the xenograft plus collagen membrane over the spontaneous healing in terms of periodontal probing depth gain (MD=2.36; 95% CI 0.69 to 4.03; P=0.005) and clinical attachment level gain (MD=2.52; 95% CI 0.96 to 4.09; P=0.002). No other statistically significant differences were found. Conclusions: Within the limitations of the present review, the xenograft plus collagen membrane exhibited better periodontal results than spontaneous healing without increasing postoperative complications. However, future well-designed studies with larger samples are required to confirm our result

Within the analyses made with reference to the use and abuse of Information and Communication Technologies, there are several research applied to young people, since they are the group that most concentrates online consumption. However, little has been analyzed about the trends and reflections made in this regard by another population sector, not always different in age, but in their purposes and daily activities: teachers. As part of this work, a study with teachers from three colleges of the University of Guadalajara is shown, who offer their perception of consumption on the web based on the Internet Addiction Test developed by Kimberly Young. The results show, in general, a rational tendency in the use of technology, although there are some frequent indications in the case of the loss of awareness of the time of Internet use, to feel a certain degree of anxiety or nervousness when not connected or to consult social networks or mail before starting priority activities. This work reaffirms the need to deepen studies on the group of teachers of the study centers, since both their personal and professional affectation is of interest, as well as the role that technology plays for them and what message they give to the student communities they serve

The problems and limitations of the control of diseases caused by phytopathogens through the use of fungicides, make the biological control present as an alternative method in the production of tomato plants in greenhouse, which is limited by the incidence of Fusarium oxysporum Schlechtend.:Fr., being the most worldwide destructive disease. The objective of the present investigation was to evaluate the effect of three Mexican strains of the genus Trichoderma against F. oxysporum on the production of tomato seedlings under greenhouse conditions, as well as to determine the antagonistic effect of the strains used. The Trichoderma harzianum strain had the highest antagonistic activity (81.50%) and the highest growth rate (1.25 cm/day), proving to be the most aggressive strain to control F. oxysporum. in addition the results of the interaction of the dual cultures paired, presented a visible overgrowth zone with hyphae of Trichoderma spp. Seeds inoculated with T. harzianum showed a survival of 84% and a mortality of 16%, lower than the control group, which present a mortality of 58%; however, the treatment inoculated with F. oxysporum had the highest incidence of “disease” with 83%, the lowest survival (17%) and a decrease of the green biomass with respect to the control

CREB-binding protein (CBP) gene family regulates planarian survival and stem cell differentiation

In developmental biology, the regulation of stem cell plasticity and differentiation remains an open question. CBP(CREB-binding protein)/p300 is a conserved gene family that functions as a transcriptional co-activator and plays important roles in a wide range of cellular processes, including cell death, the DNA damage response, and tumorigenesis. The acetyl transferase activity of CBPs is particularly important, as histone and non-histone acetylation results in changes in chromatin architecture and protein activity that affect gene expression. Many studies have described the conserved functions of CBP/p300 in stem cell proliferation and differentiation. The planarian Schmidtea mediterranea is an excellent model for the in vivo study of the molecular mechanisms underlying stem cell differentiation during regeneration. However, how this process is regulated genetically and epigenetically is not well-understood yet. We identified 5 distinct Smed-cbp genes in S. mediterranea that show different expression patterns. Functional analyses revealed that Smed-cbp-2 appears to be essential for stem cell maintenance. On the other hand, the silencing of Smed-cbp-3 resulted in the growth of blastemas that were apparently normal, but remained largely unpigmented and undifferentiated. Smed-cbp-3 silencing also affected the differentiation of several cell lineages including neural, epidermal, digestive, and excretory cell types. Finally, we analysed the predicted interactomes of CBP-2 and CBP-3 as an initial step to better understand their functions in planarian stem cell biology. Our results indicate that planarian cbp genes play key roles in stem cell maintenance and differentiation

MAMÍFEROS DE CUATRO ÁREAS CON DIFERENTE GRADO DE ALTERACIÓN EN EL SURESTE DE MÉXICO

The mammals from four areas of Southeastern Mexico were examined to compare the species diversity in areas characterized by various degrees of disturbance caused by human activities such as felling of trees, cattle grazing, and agriculture. We examined 458 specimens from 52 species in the four study areas. Carlos A. Madrazo was the site with more species richness (n= 41) and also has the less disturbed vegetation, followed by Agua Dulce (n= 37) that presents some orchards that had changed the natural vegetation, and Jalapita (n= 28) and El Espino (n= 14), the areas with the most alteration in their vegetation. The differences found in the distribution of the species in the four areas indicate that most species prefer to inhabit the less disturbed areas with favorable conditions for their survival, suggesting that disturbance reduced the number of species in the studied zones. In Southeastern Mexico, Tabasco and Veracruz are among the states with the most disturbed areas in which the original vegetation has been substituted by grass. It is imperative that the authorities responsible for the conservation of species and use of the land implement a plan to educate local people on the sustainable use of natural resources so their protection and management can be achieved.
