    The project consists on the construction of a new center of distraction in the South sector of the city of Guayaquil, this idea is born for the emergence of a potential market in this sector due to the great change that this having the City at the moment, this market not yet place setting possesses a great demand for what the acceptance for a center of this type would be really successful. The main objective is to mark the difference in this type of business, giving a great turn to it with respect to distraction, when offering a project full with strategies and details to offer them a novel place, with tip technology, with services that nobody but he/she will have them as billiards tables, bar, you scheme of video games, all this in a single place and not so far, because many of the inhabitants of the south that you/they like of this sport have to be transported until the north of Guayaquil to be able to enjoy this sport being exposed to the danger of the delinquency. The problem basically consists in that given the lack of local of entertainment of this type, the current youth doesn't have places where to enjoy healthy amusement where they can channel all her energy in an appropriate atmosphere, practicing activities that stimulate her mind and her body in the best in the ways like you/he/she is it to practice a sport. The purpose of the project is basically guided to cover the deficiencies that he/she has the current offer of this service in the city, the same ones that motivate the development of this study, fomenting to the tourism and development of the city and at the same time changing the perception that you/they had people of the South of the city

    The role of lubricant feeding conditions on the performance improvement and friction reduction of journal bearings

    Most conventional hydrodynamic journal bearing performance tools can not suitably assess the effect of lubricant feeding conditions on bearing performance, even though these conditions are known to affect important performance parameters such as eccentricity and powerloss. A thermohydrodynamic analysis suitable to deal with realistic feeding conditions has been proposed. Special attention was given to the treatment of phenomena taking place within grooves and their vicinity,as well as to the ruptured film region. The effec to flubricant feeding pressure and temperature, groove length ratio,width ratio and number (single/twin) on bearing performance has been analyzed for a broad range of conditions.It was found that a careful tuning of the feeding conditions may indeed improve bearing performance.FCT - POCTI/EME/39202/200

    Multi-scalar tachyon potential on non-BPS domain walls

    We have considered the multi-scalar and multi-tachyon fields living on a 3d domain wall embedded in a 5d dimensional Minkowski spacetime. The effective action for such a domain wall can be found by integrating out the normal modes as vibrating modes around the domain wall solution of a truncated 5d supergravity action. The multi-scalar tachyon potential are good enough to modeling assisted inflation scenario with multi-tachyon fields.     Comparison of Nasopharyngeal Samples for SARS‐CoV ‐2 Detection in a Paediatric Cohort

    Aim: The diagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) depends on accurate and rapid testing. Choosing an appropriate sample may impact diagnosis. Naso-oropharyngeal swabs (NOS) are most frequently used, despite several limitations. Since studies suggest nasopharyngeal aspirate (NPA) as a superior alternative in children, we hypothesised collecting both nasopharyngeal swab and aspirate would improve our diagnostic accuracy. Methods: Observational, longitudinal, prospective study from 7 March to 7 May in a tertiary paediatric hospital in Lisbon. The objective was to compare the rate of detection of SARS-CoV-2 between NOS and NPA samples collected simultaneously. Results: A total of 438 samples collected from 85 patients with confirmed COVID-19. There were 47.7% overall positive specimens - 32% (70/219) positive NOS and 63.5% (139/219) positive NPA. The tests were 67.6% concordant (k = 0.45). 50.3% had positive NPA with negative NOS, while 1.3% had positive NOS with negative NPA. NPA proved to be more sensitive (98.6% with 95% confidence interval 91.2-99.9% vs. 49.6% with 95% confidence interval 41.1-58.2%, P < 0.001). Additionally, the difference between NPA and NOS positive samples was statistically significant across all population groups (age, health condition, clinical presentation, contact with COVID-19 patients or need for hospitalisation), meaning NPA is more sensitive overall. Conclusions: Nasopharyngeal aspirates had greater sensitivity than naso-oropharyngeal swabs in detecting SARS-CoV-2. Our results suggest paediatric patients would benefit from collecting nasopharyngeal aspirates in hospital settings, whenever feasible, to improve diagnosis of COVID-19.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Effect of cinnamon powder addition to a Portuguese custard tart (Pastel de Nata) on healthy adults' postprandial glycemia

    Background and Objective: Cinnamon is a spice used over the years in cooking to impart aromatic, flavor and taste properties to food and beverages. Moreover, cinnamon has been used for its medicinal properties due to its potential phenolic content, which can protect against cardio-metabolic diseases. Previous studies reported an improvement of postprandial glycemia after addition of cinnamon powder to a high-sugar meal. The study aims at investigating the effect of adding cinnamon powder to a Portuguese custard tart (Pastel de Nata) on the postprandial glycemic response in healthy subjects. Subjects and Methods: After review board and Ethic Committee of the State approval, thirty-two healthy human subjects were assigned in a controlled study and randomly allocated into 2 groups: 16 subjects ingested a custard tart with cinnamon powder (cinnamon group) and 16 subjects ingested a custard tart alone (control group). Blood glucose concentrations were measured before interventions and after 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. Chemical analysis was performed to quantify the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity. Results: The postprandial blood glucose (PBG) area under the curve (AUC) was significantly lower (p = 0.0005) in the cinnamon group (599.2 ± 9.1) compared to the AUC of the control group (645.7 ± 7.7). The administration of cinnamon powder to the custard tarts slightly decreased PBG mean values compared to custard tart without cinnamon powder, although it did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.273). Cinnamon addition to custard tart improved the total phenolic content (1278.7 ± 0.7 compared to 253.7 ± 22.8 mg/L gallic acid) and antioxidant properties, increasing 4.4 times the capacity of free-radical scavenger compared with custard tart without cinnamon (IC50). Conclusion: The addition of cinnamon powder to custard tart could be beneficial to glycemic control

    Combined use of mitochondrial and nuclear genetic markers further reveal immature marine turtle hybrids along the South Western Atlantic

    Marine turtle hybridization is usually sporadic and involves reports of only a few individuals; however, Brazilian populations have high hybridization rates. Here we investigated the presence of hybrids in morphologically identified immature hawksbills (Eretmochelys imbricate) along the South Western Atlantic (SWA). We sequenced one mitochondrial (D-Loop) and three nuclear DNA (RAG1, RAG2, and CMOS) markers to better understand the patterns and characteristics of hybrids. We identified 22 hybrids (n = 270), 11 of them at the extreme South of the SWA. Uruguay had the highest hybrid frequency in the SWA (similar to 37.5%) followed by southern Brazil with 30%. These are common areas for loggerheads (Caretta caretta) but uncommon for hawksbills, and these hybrids may be adopting the behavior of loggerheads. By analyzing nuclear markers, we can infer that 50% of the sampled hybrids are first generation (F1) and 36% are the result of backcrosses between hybrids and pure E. imbricate (&gt; F1). We also report for the first time immature E. imbricate x Lepidochelys olivacea hybrids at the Brazilian coast. Considering the high frequency of hybrids in the SWA, continuous monitoring should be performed to assess the fitness, genetic integrity, and extent of changes in the gene pools of involved populations

    Liver haemangioma: common and uncommon findings and how to improve the differential diagnosis

    Haemangiomas are common focal liver lesions, generally detected in the work-up of asymptomatic patients. From the pathological point of view, they can be classified as small (capillary) or large, with cavernous vascular spaces that may show thrombosis, calcifications and hyalinisation. The polymorphic imaging appearance of haemangiomas depends on their histological features and flow pattern. The widespread use of cross-sectional imaging has allowed an increased detection rate and a better characterisation of this benign tumour. Recent developments of ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) providing high spatial and temporal resolution, together with the use of new contrast agents and/or pulse sequences has broadened the spectrum of imaging findings, contributing to diagnostic refinement in difficult cases. The scope of the present article is to provide an overview of the range of appearances of haemangiomas, explored with recent cross-sectional imaging modalities, emphasising its atypical findings as explored by temporally resolved contrast-enhanced imaging

    Transmission of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus during the Incubation Period in Pigs.

    Understanding the quantitative characteristics of a pathogen's capability to transmit during distinct phases of infection is important to enable accurate predictions of the spread and impact of a disease outbreak. In the current investigation, the potential for transmission of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) during the incubation (preclinical) period of infection was investigated in seven groups of pigs that were sequentially exposed to a group of donor pigs that were infected by simulated-natural inoculation. Contact-exposed pigs were comingled with infected donors through successive 8-h time slots spanning from 8 to 64 h post-inoculation (hpi) of the donor pigs. The transition from latent to infectious periods in the donor pigs was clearly defined by successful transmission of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) to all contact pigs that were exposed to the donors from 24 hpi and later. This onset of infectiousness occurred concurrent with detection of viremia, but approximately 24 h prior to the first appearance of clinical signs of FMD in the donors. Thus, the latent period of infection ended approximately 24 h before the end of the incubation period. There were significant differences between contact-exposed groups in the time elapsed from virus exposure to the first detection of FMDV shedding, viremia, and clinical lesions. Specifically, the onset and progression of clinical FMD were more rapid in pigs that had been exposed to the donor pigs during more advanced phases of disease, suggesting that these animals had received a higher effective challenge dose. These results demonstrate transmission and dissemination of FMD within groups of pigs during the incubation period of infection. Furthermore, these findings suggest that under current conditions, shedding of FMDV in oropharyngeal fluids is a more precise proxy for FMDV infectiousness than clinical signs of infection. These findings may impact modeling of the propagation of FMD outbreaks that initiate in pig holdings and should be considered when designing FMD control strategies

    A Further Unique Chondroitin Sulfate from the shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei with Antithrombin Activity that Modulates Acute Inflammation

    The detailed structure of a further Chondroitin Sulfate from Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp (sCS) is described. The backbone structure was established by 1H/13C NMR, which identified 3-O-sulfated GlcA, 4-O-sulfated GalNAc, 6-O-sulfated GalNAc, and 4,6-di-O-sulfated GalNAc residues. GlcA is linked to GalNAc 4,6 di S and GlcA 3S is linked to GalNAc 4S, GalNAc 4,6 di-S and GalNAc6S residues. The anticoagulant properties of this sCS were evaluated by activated partial thromboplastin time, anti-IIa, anti-Xa and anti-heparin cofactor II-mediated activities, and sCS failed to stabilise antithrombin in a fluoresence shift assay. The anti-inflammatory effect of sCS was explored using a model of acute peritonitis, followed by leukocyte count and measurement of the cytokines, IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α. The compound showed low clotting effects, but high anti-IIa activity and HCII-mediated thrombin inhibition. Its anti-inflammatory effect was shown by leukocyte recruitment inhibition and a decrease in pro-inflammatory cytokine levels. Although the biological role of sCS remains unknown, its properties indicate that it is suitable for studies of multi-potent molecules obtained from natural sources
