Initial performance of ten oil palm cross combinations under three agro-climatic conditions in India
High yielding hybrids can play an important role in increasing the productivity of oil in the oil palm. With a view to evaluate high yielding new oil palm cross combinations, a field experiment was conducted in different agro-climatic regions of India viz., Zone No-10 Southern Plateau and Hills (Gangavathi, Karnataka), Zone No-12 Western Coastal Plains and Ghats (Mulde, Maharashtra) and Zone No-11 Eastern Coastal Plains and Hills (Vijayarai, Andhra Pradesh) involving ten cross combinations of tenera oil palm (NRCOP 1-10). The data from three locations over two years indicated that, significantly higher annual rate of leaf production per palm was recorded in NRCOP-6 (21.7) compared to NRCOP-3 and it was on par with other hybrid combinations. Significantly higher sex ratio was recorded with NRCOP-4 (63.1%) compared to NRCOP-1 (54.6%) and NRCOP-6 (54.8%) and was on par with other hybrid combinations.The hybrid cross combination, NRCOP-4 recorded significantly higher fresh fruit bunches (FFBs) yield 12.5 t ha-1 compared to NRCOP-1, NRCOP-3, NRCOP-7 and NRCOP-9 and it was on par with remaining hybrids and a similar result in bunch weight and number of bunches per palm was recorded. Pooled data on FFB yield for 2013-15 indicated that the hybrid combination NRCOP-4 which recorded higher FFB yield (12.6 t ha-1) at Gangavathi and at Vijayarai (22.6 t ha-1) have better prospects for adaptation under Tungabhadra command area and coastal region of Andhra Pradesh. For Konkan region of Maharashtra, the hybrid NRCOP-8 recorded the highest FFB yield
Isolating the Roper Resonance in Lattice QCD
We present results for the first positive parity excited state of the
nucleon, namely, the Roper resonance (=1440 MeV) from a
variational analysis technique. The analysis is performed for pion masses as
low as 224 MeV in quenched QCD with the FLIC fermion action. A wide variety of
smeared-smeared correlation functions are used to construct correlation
matrices. This is done in order to find a suitable basis of operators for the
variational analysis such that eigenstates of the QCD Hamiltonian may be
isolated. A lower lying Roper state is observed that approaches the physical
Roper state.

Sedimentation record in the Konkan-Kerala Basin: implications for the evolution of the Western Ghats and the Western Indian passive margin
The Konkan and Kerala Basins constitute a major depocentre for sediment from the onshore hinterland of Western India and as such provide a valuable record of the timing and magnitude of Cenozoic denudation along the continental margin. This paper presents an analysis of sedimentation in the Konkan-Kerala Basin, coupledwith a mass balance study, and numerical modelling of flexural responses to onshore denudational unloading and o¡shore sediment loading in order to test competing conceptual models for the development of high-elevation passive margins. The Konkan-Kerala Basin contains an estimated 109,000 km<sup>3</sup>; of Cenozoic clastic sediment, a volume difficult to reconcile with the denudation of a downwarped rift flank onshore, and more consistent with denudation of an elevated rift flank. We infer from modelling of the isostatic response of the lithosphere to sediment loading offshore and denudation onshore that flexure is an important component in the development of the Western Indian Margin.There is evidence for two major pulses in sedimentation: an early phase in the Palaeocene, and a second beginning in the Pliocene. The Palaeocene increase in sedimentation can be interpreted in terms of a denudational response to the rifting between India and the Seychelles, whereas the mechanism responsible for the Pliocene pulse is more enigmatic
Geometric phases for generalized squeezed coherent states
A simple technique is used to obtain a general formula for the Berry phase
(and the corresponding Hannay angle) for an arbitrary Hamiltonian with an
equally-spaced spectrum and appropriate ladder operators connecting the
eigenstates. The formalism is first applied to a general deformation of the
oscillator involving both squeezing and displacement. Earlier results are shown
to emerge as special cases. The analysis is then extended to multiphoton
squeezed coherent states and the corresponding anholonomies deduced.Comment: 15 page
SSI: The Stellar Seismic Indices Data Base
The Stellar Seismic Indices database (hereafter SSI) has been developed within the SPACEInn project funded under the UE Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). This data base aims at providing stellar seismic indices of solar-like oscillating stars as well as other stellar indices such as the main characteristics of stellar granulation. These indices are extracted using an automatic method, which is able to derive simultaneously the seismic and granulation parameters. This method was applied to almost all Kepler long-cadence light-curves and to almost all CoRoT targets observed in the faint fields. A total of about 320 000 targets have been analyzed, among which seismic indices and granulation parameters have been extracted for about 18 000 redgiants. In this article, we present the data base content, its interface, as well as some illustrative results
The , interaction in finite volume and the resonance
In this work the interaction of the coupled channels and
in an SU(4) extrapolation of the chiral unitary theory, where the
resonance appears as dynamically generated from that
interaction, is extended to produce results in finite volume. Energy levels in
the finite box are evaluated and, assuming that they would correspond to
lattice results, the inverse problem of determining the phase shifts in the
infinite volume from the lattice results is solved. We observe that it is
possible to obtain accurate phase shifts and the position of the
resonance, but it requires the explicit consideration of the
two coupled channels. We also observe that some of the energy levels in the box
are attached to the closed channel, such that their use to induce the phase shifts via L\"uscher's formula leads to incorrect results.Comment: 10 pages, 13 figures, accepted for publication in Eur. Phys. J.
Learning about the latitudinal distribution of starspots through the periodogram analysis of photometric data
Scalar mesons moving in a finite volume and the role of partial wave mixing
Phase shifts and resonance parameters can be obtained from finite-volume
lattice spectra for interacting pairs of particles, moving with nonzero total
momentum. We present a simple derivation of the method that is subsequently
applied to obtain the pi pi and pi K phase shifts in the sectors with total
isospin I=0 and I=1/2, respectively. Considering different total momenta, one
obtains extra data points for a given volume that allow for a very efficient
extraction of the resonance parameters in the infinite-volume limit.
Corrections due to the mixing of partial waves are provided. We expect that our
results will help to optimize the strategies in lattice simulations, which aim
at an accurate determination of the scattering and resonance properties.Comment: 19 pages, 12 figure
MidA is a putative methyltransferase that is required for mitochondrial complex I function
10 páginas, 6 figuras.-- et al.Dictyostelium and human MidA are homologous proteins that belong to a family of proteins of unknown function called DUF185. Using yeast two-hybrid screening and pull-down experiments, we showed that both proteins interact with the mitochondrial complex I subunit NDUFS2. Consistent with this, Dictyostelium cells lacking MidA showed a specific defect in complex I activity, and knockdown of human MidA in HEK293T cells resulted in reduced levels of assembled complex I. These results indicate a role for MidA in complex I assembly or stability. A structural bioinformatics analysis suggested the presence of a methyltransferase domain; this was further supported by site-directed mutagenesis of specific residues from the putative catalytic site. Interestingly, this complex I deficiency in a Dictyostelium midA- mutant causes a complex phenotypic outcome, which includes phototaxis and thermotaxis defects.
